Seriously the industry could not have gotten any luckier than landing this guy as the new face of the sport. It's not just about ridiculous static strength, which the guy has in spades to begin with, but a real solid educated background in the science of the sport. He mentions mobility often. He talks about health and longevity. I rarely see a humble brag lift video from this guy. You're more likely to get a clip of him sweeping up or streching and everybody's eating it up because he seems like a genuine down to earth dude

@@mange6164 they don't hate each other, but Brian made a remark when Martins was a rookie about him not being strong enough to compete at WSM and it's fueled Martins ever since. I don't think they will always have this rivalry but it's basically Eddie vs Brian all over again. I doubt Brian had any real Ill intent behind his comment towards Martins cause he seems like a big cuddly bear now but back in the day he wasn't always so nice. I remember him being really rude to me and other fans in Colorado Springs one time, but this was when Brian was still early on in his career and he had a big ego cause he was dominating the strongman world at the time. Now not so much, I've met him a few times and he's a nice guy, I think it was one of those things where winning wsm was in his head and his ego was inflated but being dethroned by the likes of The Beast and Thor kinda brought him back to earth

I have been watching strongman since I was a boy at 3 years old flipping through the tv in 1996 looking for cartoons and one day I found wsm on at like 4 in the morning while I was wiping boogers on the couch. It changed my life when I saw these men racing each other trying to best the last guys lift. The sense of competition and comradery opened up a huge perspective in my mind! Great to see the dedicated and the disciplined rise to the top! Love it

When the 2019 WSM was and I was wondering who won the competition, I wasn't really following the sport or even the event, I just followed some things on social media. I was thinking it would probably be Halfthor who would be the winner, and when I saw the result and heard "Martins Licis, WSM" my first and only thought was "who the fuck is that guy?" I had never heard of you before, now he is one of my favorites in the sport, humble, funny, and very technnical and smart, and of course strong.
