I am certain people don't realize the greatness of this athlete. The guy won 4 medals in 4 different Olympic Games, 3 of which were gold. This is crazy.

Bronze medal due to a recent serious injury just before the event as he said in the video. Had not it been that injury he would most likely be a gold medalist 4 times.

@@myonlynick Maybe I dont know, the truth was though that without the injury, the gold medal would have been tough that year. Pyrros was not in his prime then. The fact that still got that medel, not being on his prime and injured, says a lot! The guy is not just the GOAT in weight lifting in Olympics, he is one of the GOATs in Olympics in general.

I remember it like yesterday - the Barcelona Olympics in 92… he was not well known… he goes out there and attempts his lift, his coach yelling “under the bar” and Dimas standing up and right before he snatched the weight over his head he yells “FOR GREECE” and does it - first gold medal. Legend

I have a photo of him from Barcelona Olympics with a dedication. I remember a very good man with hethos and kindness. Years after that we met again as we are neighbors in Melissia Athens. The same kindness although he managed to succeed in his life and won Olympic medals !

It’s hard to actually explain how much this athlete influenced a whole country 🇬🇷 For a short period of time, the Olympics for us Greeks were solely focused on one guy! With his performance, his determination, his ethics, he carried a whole country on his back and was the perfect representative of the place that gave birth to this historic event. I would like you to realize something. Pyrros mentioned the standing ovation that took more than 10 minutes. I've never seen a ceremony practically freezed for more than 10 mins before that day and ever again to be honest. Extra respect to the other athletes and the committee. You see a small stadium of standing ovations, but I can confirm that on that day 10 million Greeks were crying for joy. You can ask any Greek where he/she was on the day the national team won the 1987 European basketball championship, or where he/she was and what he/she was doing in detail when the national team won the European football championship in 2004. The day Pyrros stepped on the podium in 2004 was such a day too.

Im Greek Thank you Martin for doing this interview. I trained with Valerios Leonidis and I have met Piros. When i tryed weightlifting i understoud that has nothing to do with bodybuilding or crossfit. Its a weird momentoum you basically explode the movement from your core or dare i say genitals and yo have about 1 second to execute. Amazing sport

I know that governments take advantage of athletes for political purposes. However, there are some athletes that, somehow, embody the soul of a given people. Pyrros Dimas was the embodiment of the greek soul, if that makes sense in any manner. Interviewing Pyrros gives a glimpse to greek soul.

When I heard 90kg at 7 years old I thought nahhhh...must be wrong in translation, he must've made a mistake but when I realized that it was actually 90kgs at 7 years old I couldn't believe it so much I kept repeaating that part...it's shocking!!!! You were mistaken a bit guys, while showing photos of supposed to be Kakhi Kakhiashvili but this was Georgy asanidze another Georgian weightlifter competed at 82 kg class against Pyrros, and currently head coach of Georgian team and especially Lasha.
