How To Fix A Stuck Backseat On a 2013-2019 Ford Fusion

This video demonstrates how to fix a stuck back seat on a 2013-2019 Ford Fusion. Tools needed are: T-47 Torx bit/driver socket or a T-50 Torx bit/driver & socket and a ratchet. They are available at any local auto parts store (AutoZone, Advance Auto, etc.) or Lowe's Home Improvement / Home Depot. We used a couple of small boxes and a textbook to hold up the back seat enough for us to get our hand inside and unscrew the bolt.

This happened to me a few days ago for the first time. I laid the seat down so no one would break into my car while I was in Atlanta. Well coming home, some idiot on the interstate decided they want to force me out of my lane, causing me to slam on the brakes. That locked up the belt and now the seat won't go back up. I'm going to take it apart today and see if this fixes it. Thanks for the information!

I had this problem and due to time issue, we had to get a baby seat in there and on the road. I wasn't home with my tools and had to cut the belt. Dealership just called me to tell me it will cost $492.85 out of pocket. Clearly this is a common problem and Ford needs to address this!!!!

My husband will have to do the same thing to it like he has to do when the seatbelt sticks when the back seat is down. Pain right in the butt and I now can't wait to trade this car in for something else more practical for our now big family.

This did the trick! Note that for the 2013 Fusion, I used the T-47. In order to reach the bolt, I first had to remove another bracket that I think is used for anchoring a car seat. Also it was not possible to remove the rear seat with the back of the seat stuck like it was, but after I removed the seat belt anchor and returned the seat to upright, I could then easily remove the seat and reinstall the anchor from inside the car rather than inside the trunk. All told, it took me a half hour. Thanks for the video!

I heard on another video that if you leave the middle seatbelt latched, it won't lockup on you when you put the seat down. Maybe that just means the belt has more play for releasing the clutch afterward, but it's worth a try.

Thank you so much!!! Takes just 10 minutes once you have T47 torx... Once fixed I added a cheap plastic seatbelt clip from amazon to limit the length of the belt that is pulled into the mechanism within the seat. This way seat could be brought up even if the belt gets stuck.

Yes, you can remove the bottom cushion with the seat top down. We had to remove it also.

I wish this was permanent fix. I have to do this EVERYTIME I put that seat down. I have a 2013 and have had so many recalls on this car you'd think this would be one of them. Don't get me wrong I love this car, but this backseat issue is really annoying as I do put the seats down handful of times each year. I shouldn't have to do that as the mechanism should work as it should.

Trick is to buckle the seatbelt well folding it down and leave a bunch of slack.

pull out some slack and tie the belt anytime you need to fold down the rear seats. Its a hassle but hopefully you don't need to fold down your seats too often

I appreciate the video, but for some reason my seat belt will lock up after lowering the seat down and it becomes stuck as in the video, so I need to repeat the process. Pull out some slack in the middle seatbelt and tie it off before you lower the seat.

If you are not using a T-50, try that size and medium size wrench for better leverage. You can also tap on the bolt a few times (old school technique) or a lubricant.
