I'm gonna also send up Nuno Bettencourt, for similar reasons. Dude's a mad tasty player! Also, free fun fact - originally, Marty did not know any music theory! He completely taught himself, just by playing and paying close attention to what sounded good and what didn't. He'd pick a start and end note, and he'd go, "Ok, so in so many beats I have to get from here to there. What are the different ways that I can do that? Ok not like that, that sounds bad. This one sounds alright. Let's mess with that a bit - what if I mix it up a little like - yeah ok, that works. Now let's try - " Just this tight loop of experimentation and discovery. And everything that he found that sounded good, he'd break down into little chunks and turn into exercises. So he developed an innate sense of musicality and built a muscle-memory-deep mental map of the fretboard at the same time, which is how he became such a monster improviser. He did eventually learn the theory to go along with it, but that was well into his tenure in Megadeth.

@@ad1170 I think it's you that's missing what underrated means... outside of musician circles, 99% of the population has never heard of him. they have heard his music for 30-odd years, but they wouldn't know his name. if you took the average punter and mentioned Marty Friedman, they wouldn't have a clue. He's never been given the heroes welcome he deserves. He's never talked about on TV or the Radio, He's only famous in a niche corner of society. 90% of society would rate someone like Slash higher than Marty (undeservedly), that's what underrated means, he is not rated sufficiently to meet his credentials. but go ahead, tell me how awesome you are because you listen to his music. Mira, yo no me declaró el mejor Guitarrista ni nada, solo voy dar mi opinión, Friedman no dudo que pudiera tocar Jazz, el tipo es demasiado versátil y se a demostrado que los cambios de compaces los hace bien, prueba de ello es cuando estuvo con Becker en la banda Cacophony y con su trabajo Speed Metal Symphony, ese álbum es una locura técnica por esos cambios de ritmo que tiene, aparte Marty no es tan mal Guitarrista rítmico, y de tocar blues ni hablamos. Malmsteen es un Guitarrista más rápido que Friedman pero no es más completo, ritmicamente es bastante meh, no se si pudiera adaptarse bien a la Poliritmia y compaces de 8vos, 16vos y 32vos, casi siempre no sale de los 4tos y solo variando. De sustituir a Dimebag, depende, si es de salir a conciertos tocando su música, si, cualquier persona que tenga bastante tiempo en la guitarra puede, pero para componer para Pantera, no, no son igual de creativos ritmicamente que Dimebag y dudo que puedan imitar el Groove de el.

La de tocar Jazz y Blues sería difícil dependiendo si tienen conocimientos sobre cada género, cada uno tiene su juego, quizás el blues les sea más fácil que el jazz ya que están mucho más cerca de él que del jazz, pero si no tienen práctica debería tomar práctica como aprender cualquier cosa. Lo de reemplazar a Dimebag sería en extremo muy difícil, y esto va más allá de quién es mejor guitarrista, quien toca más rápido y blablabla. No, cada guitarrista tiene un estilo propio, y cada guitarrista juega dentro de las leyes de su propio juego, creo que todos sabemos que los 3 guitarristas que menciones usan bastante la escala pentatónica, pero no son los mismos licks, y friedman y Dimebag suelen mezclar la pentatónica con otras escalas, como la menor armónica, menor melódia, etc. Simplemente un guitarrista desarrolla su estilo, a la hora de improvisar por ejemplo, debería ser notorio esto. Cuando tocan la canción de slayer al principio del vídeo friedman improvisa un solo, y usa ciertos licks y escalas que ya acostumbra usar, de hecho termina en la misma nota y bending con el que empieza tornado of souls. Si ese solo lo tocara Jimmy page o Tony Iommi sonaría muy distinto, mucho más bluesero, así se marcan las diferencias entre cada guitarrista. Emular a otro no es nada fácil, más allá de que tan buenos sean.
