I only started learning guitar about 9 weeks ago & I'm documenting my entire learning journey on here. Meanwhile, here's Marty taking 15 minutes to teach me all I need to know to impress the average unmusical Joe.

The Let It Be interlude you opened with - my instructor has me learning that finger-picking with double stops, and it's very challenging for me for where I'm at currently in my guitar journey. When I chose that song I was hoping he would be teaching it to me the way you played it. 😩

I have a pattern for this that sounds really good on acoustic. I will try to describe it in writing. I hope it will be of some use. Lol If you play the F, C, and G all using the "open C shape" fingering, then the F and C follow the same double stop pattern of starting with the root and walking it down the frets. 3, 2, 0, and after the initial hit you can double stop the 2,0 part with the open note of the string below. Then just close the pattern with G, F5 (F powerchord) to C. The cool thing about this is that by using this pattern you use your middle and ring for the whole passage except for the F5 which will require your pointer to move just once, and then it will move back once you change back to C. You can actually use the open F for the closing too but I think the F5 sounds better than going back to open F because it keeps the double stop sound and it keeps the bass note going down until it picks up to the last chord/first chord of the next pattern.)

My apologies if this makes no sense. Upon reading it back I realized why we invented true music notation. 😂

@@Wysewolf 😂 it's ok, and at my level it is kind of difficult to understand that - but that's not your fault. The way my instructor is teaching it to me wouldn't be that difficult to a slightly more advanced player but for me it's challenging because it requires pinching two strings with my right hand (and those strings change) and movement of my fretting hand and fingers. I can do it very slowly but I haven't progressed. I told him I was actually getting to the point that I don't like trying to play the song, other than the strumming, because it's a little beyond my grasp.

@Tracer9GTRider8 Keep at it. Despite what some will have you believe, none of us came out of the womb shredding. Lmao 😊 I've been playing a long time, but it never ceases to amaze me how you can go from not knowing a song at all one day, and after some practice it becomes second nature and you wonder how it was ever a problem. Lol You start to learn a lot faster once you put in the work up front to get your first set under your hands. And if it becomes too boring to practice a song, I always say go work on a new one or just noddle for a bit, then come back stronger/refreshed later. I plan to play my whole life, so I'm in no rush. Lol Good luck to you and have fun! 😊

@@Wysewolf I am in agreement with you, and I have no intention of giving up...but it's challenging! He has me playing the intro with block chords so I'm picking three strings with my middle index and pinky and then a bass note with my thumb. Then to strumming for the verse and chorus, then the double stops for the interlude before the guitar solo, and then back to strumming for the solo 😅 I do work on other stuff and come back to it but the point I'm trying to make to my instructor is I don't want this one song to be the focus of every lesson 😅

Correct me if I'm wrong but the 7th chord is a diminished chord. Even if the seventh chord is diatonic to the key, when played it just sounds out of the scale...

Hey Marty as usual a great lesson. But was wondering why you didn't call it by it's name "The Nashville Number System" ? Also two points I think people miss when teaching this is. 1. How you can Transcribe and Transpose chords by knowing these things. 80-90% of 3 chord Pop songs is a 1,4,5. 4 Chord songs 1,5,6m,4 or 1,6m,4,5. % may be lower. Knowing this you can figure out a lot of songs (Thousands Not Hundreds). 2 Transposing If it's a 1,4,5 in one Key it's a 1,4,5 in all the other Maj Keys. Same with the 1,6m,4,5/1,5,6m4. Or the 1,6m,2,m,4... Also the person who taught me the NNS (Scott Grove Groovy Music Lessons) in his experience the 7 is about 90% a Maj chord. i.e.: Sweet Home Alabama D-C-G. A 1-7-4 in D.... Also if you look at a song and it's got more than 4 chords it may just be 2 or 3 of those 3/4 chord groups in different Key's. Thank you for posting this and all your lessons. You are helping so many learn guitar. Hope You don't mind a little constructive criticism.
