Marty's hat is really a cosmic lid, made to lock all that music theory and those tasty licks inside -- trying to film it causes a distortion in time and space. One of my personal favorite Mayer tracks and what really made me want to play blues again, so a huge thanks to you man. Now people will think I actually know what I'm doing when I bust out that groovy funk-blues main riff.
@garrickpridemore4135 жыл бұрын
I admit, years ago I wasn't a fan of Mayer when he first hit the scene, but I have really changed my mind on him the past 10 years or so. Saw him at Clapton's Crossroads festival in 2010 and completely changed my opinion.

Hey Marty, I know you often mention that your fingers are short and can't do thumb over the neck grip. I was playing guitar with a buddy and he said the same thing, yet I look at his hands and the don't look small and his fingers don't look particularly short so it was my mission to get him positioned with thumb over the neck grip. Alas a discovery, he was right he couldn't do it with sufficient comfort to play, and we realized it was because he has thick meaty hand (not short fingers). It was like he was playing with a thick guitar neck that makes for a long way for his fingers to wrap around. So you may be the same, in that case you can claim you can't do over the neck because you got strong thick hands manly hands, haha! Love your channel. Take it easy.

Does anyone know why that slide works (the 4-5, 5-6) like that? John and a few guitarists use that in several songs but I can't figure out why it works. I'm probably wrong here, but is it a b7and2 to 7and b3? Both parts of the slide have a note that isn't in the pentatonic. Even if someone knows a term for it that I can look up, I would be extremely appreciative. I've used it, but without knowing why it works it feels like a cheap trick that I'm just stealing. It hurts my heart. Thank you in advance for helping me chase that knowledge. Marty, your videos are great!
