This is hardly an original comment, but I can't understand how there are 28 thumbs down on this video. You can learn this great song in under an hour, it sounds exactly like the original recording, and it's taught clearly and with good humor, for free. What more do you want??

Thank you Marty! The short Em on the 12th fret helped me to complete the intro for the end of the line. Once again I'm beholding to you for your outstanding guitar tutorials! You are the Obe Won Kenobe of guitar teachers! I hope you know what an inspiration you are to us struggling guitarists!❤

My grandkids are well impressed,,,thanks Marty n..hopefully one day will be as good as you ( if I last that long lol)

Marty, what a great and easy guitar lesson that was! I’m 67 and just picked up the guitar eight months ago and your lessons online have helped me tremendously. Keep giving these good lessons and the better I get maybe I’ll go get a 12 string. Thanks again for your hard work on these videos

I’ve been fallowing you for a while on internet and I must say I like the way you teach. Some of the songs even though they may be easy to play, for me at 67 and only playing for 6 years they are still a challenge. That’s how you get better. I’m glad you did this song because it is simple and it‘s a fun song. I figure if I can’t be that good then at lease I can be fun. Also I have found that I can sing in the range of D, A and G so now I have to learn the words and play it over and over until I get it. Thanks

martyzsongs thank you for this great video, its very helpful, and i don't mean to disagree, but i believe that the last two chords leading up to the final D are G/D ("G over D") and A/D ("A over D") respectively. G/D = first ("index") finger on high E string 10th fret, third ("ring") finger on G string 12th fret, fourth ("pinky") finger on B string 12th fret, D string played open A/D = slide G/D shape up one whole step, still playing the open D string you can see george hitting these chords in the end of the line video rather than the D, Em combo you have here. hope that helps your viewers. love this song! thank you again for the great video

Marty, You never cease to amaze me, and I figured I wanted to share this with you or at least people like me who want to learn how to play guitar. Let's just say I am a late bloomer when it comes to the guitar. I have been going through some pretty hard times, this guitar gives me something else to focus on, and something to really look forward to during the day. I am a recent subscriber and I just learned an American Girl from you. While I was practicing along with this Tom Petty's song in the background you tube looped to another song. It was The End of the Line by The Traveling Wilburys. I thought what a great song this would be to learn. Right underneath the song was a tutorial on how to play it on guitar. I thought sweet! It's probably not Marty, but I can try it and if it is too hard I can see if Marty has a better way of breaking it down for me to play it. I clicked on the link and there you are again. I used to fool around with the bass guitar. I am trying to get past the beginner stage and am getting a lot of enjoyment out of the six string, but beginner stage is really where I am at. I just wanted to let you know that I enjoy the way you not only make it fun, but you also educate us while doing it. You will sometimes show different ways of getting the song down, or branch off from the song and share with us a little theory. My favorite thing is when you are breaking a song down and you spill out something like "this is basically a C Minor pentatonic. I would not have known anything about pentatonic scales if you just breezed through these song like most others do as if it is a horrible part time job and you just want to get through it. I get a lot out of your lessons because you put so much into them.I have been enjoying taking lessons from you for a little while now. Most skilled people are horrible teachers, or just lack the patience to teach. You have another real solid ability when it comes to teaching. I will take a theory class from someone else and wonder if I am wasting my time. When I take any kind of theory classes from you, I get so much out of it and it leaves me wanting more. The best part of my day is during the short time I get to watch your video's and learn this great instrument. I just wanted to send out a quick thank you for doing what you are doing, and for just being who you are. I bet you don't even realize the positive impact you have had on so many peoples life by just doing what you do and sharing what you know. Truly and from the bottom of my heart...Thank you, thank you, and thank you.
@bernieolivera56327 жыл бұрын
Like your videos, you're one of the best. I was having a problem with the change between the 3rd D and the A. A friend told me to hit the 3rd D 1-2 (down down) then the A 3-4 (down down) then the G (full strumming pattern). Well that works for me. When you make the change, it's so quick i didn't understand it. You may want to explain that for us novices. Thanks!
