@@freddydipper Hadn't thought about this, but it makes sense. Clem aside (maybe HM?), every other great Terran is/was in Korea. This is opposed to Z and P where there are far more great foreigners. In saying that though, the OP wasn't wrong. Clem is phenomenal at getting early game leads and then just applying pressure consistently until his opponent taps out. However, Clem absolutely requires the momentum in order for a win; he is rarely able to just slog out matches. Imagine if a new tournament started with a 7 minute no rush? I'd be surprised if Clem even made it through the qualifiers. This is opposed to Maru who would still manage to make his presence known regardless of new rules put in place for tournaments. Maru is just a great all-rounded player that quite simply dominates everywhere. The only constants with Maru are tanks and turrets, but he's perfectly fine attempting early game cheese, late-game turtles, unexpected comebacks, etc. He's just great at everything. My favorite player is Byun, but if Marines were nerfed, Byun would collapse whereas Maru would still find a way to make it work.

@@freddydipper talking about servers, Maru wouldn't drop a map against Serral if they played on Lan. Maru said at the interview that Rogue is the best zerg at ZvT now, which implies that he himself thinks if he plays both Serral and Rogue at same conditions(which means, ping), Rogue is the tougher challenge, yet he still beat Rogue twice in recent finals.

Clem is highly specialized at TvZ in Tarren, highly replies on the mobility of bios and his micro skill But somehow I think Maru counter Clem's aggression because he has better knowledge and the advantage of Mech I rarely see a Terran transform its viking just simply to push off the hellion

I'm a Serral fan and firmly believe that Serral at his best is the best ever, but in terms of legacy and consistency Maru is GOAT. Peak Serral is a machine, but Maru is so consistently God Tier he would eventually figure Serral out and crack him. Maru breaks people. Serral outclasses them.

I think it should be pointed out though, that TvT is probably Clem's worst matchup, at least in most pro games I have seen. In contrast, Maru seems to be an another level of TvT, even vs most pro terrans.

This was just a slug fest from start to finish. Brutal, up close and personal. Maru beat Clem to a pulp. I love the constant aggression, it felt perfectly paced. Plus, these smaller engagements really show off the tactical decision making.

theres also other small differences. maru uses a smaller screen (i think 17 or 18 inch if I recall) to lower the distance his eyes need to travel. youll almost never see a korean player have to look around as if he's on a big screen. they optimize even their head movement

@@JH-bb8in Serral's generally regarded as the most dominant ever when he was winning everything, as no one has ever stomped quite as hard as he did through 2018-2019, hence why he's a GOAT candidate, but it's a hard argument to say that Serral is the *current* best in the world. Without a doubt he's *among* the best, but it's hard to argue he's at the very top right now.

Clem has the least balanced skillset out of all the terrans. Boasting an impressive winrate in TvZ but less than 45% winrate in TvT. Maru on the other hand has the best TvT record of all time. This beatdown shouldn't have come as a surprise to anyone.

I think Maru is the best at using the Terran units to their full potential (like staying effective without deathballing), if that makes sense. He seems so crazy in small fights and dirty games. Dude IS the terran to me, I just love the way he looks at the game. Also without trying to be rude to the guy because he's also nutty, but around 10:45 clem looks so lost, can't imagine how it feels to play vs maru on his game.

Clem is a fantastic up and coming player. But Maru is the best Terran player in the world and has been for 6+ years. That was a brutal match. Clem knew he had to be aggressive to take on Maru, but wow. It always amazes me to watch Maru chip away at people with constant attacks keeping the pressure on.

Mhm, sure Clem is "up and coming", not like he literally stands toe-to-toe with the greatest SC2 players alive. Dude has been consistently beating Serral in series while Maru has been having trouble. They for sure have different matchups that they are better/worse at, but to act like Clem isn't also one of the best in the world is just stanning for Maru.

And I always love a good Terran player, so seeing Clem jump into the fray has been fun to watch. What I meant by up and coming is Clem is young, like Maru was. He has a lot of future potential. He's just getting started. I can't wait to see his progression next year.

You compare this 3-0 to the 2-0 between Maru and Showtime, and the 2-0 was much closer. I didn't see the first game, so maybe that wasn't as close, but the second game, Showtime really gave Maru a run for his money. But this was savage, 25 minutes in game timer across 3 games, versus the over 30 minute slugfest of Maru vs Showtime's second game alone.

TvP is Maru weakest matchup at the moment (still 70% winrate), and Showime aint no pushover neither. Clem also had to play a 35-40 minutes game long against Showtime recently.

Every move Clem made lost him about 20% more resources than Maru, every game. I'm not sure if there was a single moment Clem had less resources lost than Maru, but if it did happen it couldn't have been for more than a few seconds as Maru was counter trading soooo efficiently. Maru is just that much better in TvT.

I saw gamers using widow mines in the similar fashion as siege tanks. Not bad. In comparison, widow mines take longer between subsequent firing, while they are more concealed and economical. If they are burrowed also along the path of planned retreat, they could enable shorter subsequent push into opponent's base if the enemy forces are thinned out.
