The Maruti Suzuki Dzire, (previously known as Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire) is a subcompact sedan made for the Indian market since 2008. It was developed as a variation of the Suzuki Swift hatchback. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire was launched in 2008 and was based on the second generation of the Swift hatchback. It was introduced as subcompact sedan for the Indian market and African marketing in order to offer a sedan-like car in a smaller size. Later, in order to get the tax benefits offered to cars with a length below 4 metres, it was converted into a sub 4-meter sedan. The second generation of the Swift Dzire was based on the third generation of the Suzuki Swift.
