Sure...teenage heroes are common now. But back then things were a little different. Join me today as we learn about one of the prototype teen heroes who paved the way for future heroes such as Spider-Man.

I think that Ibis The Invincible must have had the most difficult power since he had to say " Ibisstick" AND tell his Ibisstick precisely what to do each time he used his Ibisstick . That and Ibis had an Ibisstick.

When I read the video tytle I was expecting a 3rd Golden Age Marvel Boy (Bob Grayson) but least he got a mention, lol. There's something about both these Marvel Boys I like; I like the armor-like look of the 1st one and his Peter Parker vibe (as a fan of Superboy as a kid, I'd have liked seeing this one weekly to see how he hides his secret identity from the school kids and teachers and probably towns people, but I prefer the action of the second one. If the they just could've blended the two instead of the odd soft reboot). And funny you found these looking for Captain Marvel; the waythe 1st one gets "strength of Hercules and speed of Mercrury" sounds just like him.

I like everything about this character except his disposition towards espionage. It seems every character back than had to be fighting spies. It doesnt fit marvel boy at all. He should be fighting mythical threats. Or really anything except spies. It doesn't fit him at all.

I don't speak German, but some of the words you didn't know are almost the same as their English counterparts. "schwein" = "swine" 🐷 "hund" = "hound" 🐶

Wouldn't Robin be the Spider-Man prototype since Stan Lee took inspiration from Robin?

No way. Robin doesnt have anything in common with Spiderman. Marvel Boy has so many parallels its far more compelling.

What was Hercules doing in ancient Egypt and as a mummy? Isn’t he alive in the modern marvel universe? Is in an alternate universe?

Its completely nonsensical. There are apparently many hercules in Marvel and they all come from different cultures. Best not to worry about it.

In fairness, the Marvel version of Hercules (or at least the one we’re familiar with) didn’t appear for about 20 years after this comic.

Oh sure just lean on the ancient artifact no one will care. He mixed his blood with the mummified blood of Hercules? Welcome to comics everyone. You will never sleep while forces of evil are about? Uhm what kinda radius are we talking here because never sleeping again is gonna do a real number on me. Oh sure you talk about colums 1 through 5, but no one ever mentions the 6th colum. Prototype Spider-Man? Marvel Boy looks and sounds more like Marvel Comics' rip-off of Fawcett Comics' character Captain Marvel, who is now marketed by DC Comics as Shazam. That's probably WHY he didn't last longer than 1 issue, because Marvel got caught. Also, the Sentry was less a rip-off of Superman and more a pastiche. Moral of the Story: DON'T STEAL OTHER PEOPLE'S WORKS.

Actually Shazam is a different trope. Shazam isn't a teenage hero. He is a transformed child.

@HeroicNerd ....I see what you mean. But billy does maintain his personality when transformed. So it's not a transformation like hulk or etrigan . This marvel boy has the obtainment of his powers from an ancient source like shazam. It's much more like shonen augmented form transformation. Like supersayen. But like u said the parallels with spiderman are much tighter

​@@richardlegrand4697 originally Billy didn't retain his personality as Captain Marvel. That came about as part of the 1987 reimagining...what happened was instead of being a 10 year old in a mansuit like he is now, he actually turned into a full-blown adult in both mind and body...because of the Wisdom of Solomon ability. Mary and Freddy were both always themselves though, but Mary's form came with a growth spurt in the early 70's...and after the Crisis even when Freddy transformed into Jr he always remained a kid in that form since Freddy is meant to be Peter Pan in a supersuit when he's Jr...so his form can never grow up since that is just indignant to Peter Pan...and he never lands.
