I felt we were so close with Nick Spencer’s run but then they just dashed everything out at the end. And now the current run is such regression of Peter’s character and relationships and it’s just a trainwreck. I recently read Invincible and Mark has more character development than Peter’s had in years.
@andrewgarrett1356
@andrewgarrett1356 Жыл бұрын
Mark's character gets put through the fucking ringer in the Invincible comics because Invincible as a whole is meant to explore a universe of superheroes where consequences last and there's no magic reset button. Invincible is about accepting the consequences of your actions and the reality of your situation so that you can move forward. Invincible is in my opinion the best representation of a superhero comic that talks about issues that people in real life have through the lens of this larger than life, fantastical, and ultra violent universe. It also helps that Invincible had a conclusion unlike every other story put out by DC and Marvel.

Spencer’s run was great up until Hunted (vol. 4?). After that, Spencer couldn’t let go of Kindred. We just got beat over the head with this character for 10 more volumes. And when we all thought he’d retcon one more day, he ended up doubling down on it. I’ve never been more disappointed with a promising run. The only thing the at even comes close is Morning Glories, another Spencer boom that started good and then went nowhere. The guy just can’t stick a landing. He writes great characters and dialogue, but he can’t structure a story.

It's an issue of comics culture. It used to be creators came from ordinary backgrounds. Comics used to be cheap. Now their rich kids writing for rich kidsa dn comics cost a fortune. The issue of Spider-man is he lived an ordinary life with ordinary struggles, he wasn't particularl unlukcy, his secret hero double life had the impacts you'd expect on his real life when you aren't a millionaire funding it and your secret identity matters a lot. Idiots like Joe Quasda thought this means he is destined for misery. It was never like that. Peter's and ups and downs where like normal people without money would have in their every day lives. It's why Aunt May was important in the Spider-man status quo. Having a parent you need to care about and not have them worry about you added responsibilities to Peter, whicha dded up writing tension. However modern writers are out of touch. JMS really "Got it" at first, until OMD and then went off the boil.

@BowmansWorld First, great grammar there, genius. Second, I never said that there was no inspiration from comics (The first Spider-Man film is a love letter to the Steve Ditko era of comics, after all). But recent comics (as in post One More Day) have been spinning their wheels for years (natural exception to Superior Spider-Man which, though I wasn't a fan, was at least a new direction). As for Ps4 being "based" on Dan Slott's run, I'd argue that. "Inspired by" I can believe, because the majority of Slott's creative and character decisions are quite absent there. But even then, it's a wholly new story that takes INSPIRATION from various comics (I'm sure Slott was amongst them, alongside Bendis's run on Ultimate Spider-Man, JMS's run in the Noughties, and some Ditko and Romita era stories to boot). My POINT is that while the comics keep coming back to the same old thing, these stories are taking the threads from the sixty-plus years of Spidey and doing something new while staying true to the past. Slott's run after Superior DID NOT DO THAT. Big Time through Superior was pretty dang good (and Spider-verse is always fun), but after that, he was just spinning his wheels or going off the rails (case in point of the latter, Red Goblin. Seriously, what was that?), and the post-Slott runs are even worse. At least Slott had ideas, at least Slott and JMS before him were creative, but now? It's either retreading old, tired ground or doing needless retcons that destroy beloved characters (seriously, did we REALLY need the Goblin to be a demon? That was idiotic). JMS, though bogged down by editorial mandates and some out-there ideas, wanted to take Peter and let him grow past the "kid hero." So did Slott with Big Time, but he kept returning to the status quo too. Peter Parker has been a 16 to 30-year-old for far too long. Heck, he only just turned 30 not long ago. He should have been a dad long ago. He's not a kid anymore, but writers keep reverting him to one (either literally or figuratively, including Slott, who made Parker Industries a thing). He grows, then reverts. Grows, then reverts. Over and over and over. He should be an old-timer amongst superheroes by now, but he's still treated like a kid. Let him be married. Let him be a dad. Let him be a mentor. Yeah, bring back the early Slott run and JMS run (sans Sins Past. Screw that story). Let. Him. Grow. Tobey's Spider-Man is an older man now. Tom's Spider-Man is growing past his roots. Andrew's Spider-Man has always walked his own path. Insomniac Spider-Man is Miles's teacher. But 616 Spider-Man? He's stuck. The last interesting thing he did was swap bodies with Doc Ock. He's treading water, and that was the point of my comment, genius.
@KnightsRealm98
@KnightsRealm98 Жыл бұрын
@BowmansWorld Dude, I praised Big Time. I love Big Time. And no, I don't want Pete to suffer. I WANT HIM TO GROW. And I want the growth (like in Big Time) to be PERMANENT. I don't want him to return to the status quo. But HE KEEPS REVERTING TO THE STATUS QUO. But in terms of growth, some suffering is necessary. But not Clone Saga-level suffering, because that's just long, drawn out, and stupid. No, I wanted Slott to stick with stories like Big Time. I didn't enjoy Superior, but I didn't hate it either. It just wasn't my cup of tea. And Red Goblin just felt needless, but that's my OPINION. I'm allowed to have those, right, genius? Look at Parker right now. All the good stuff from Big Time is GONE. And yeah, I'm still pissed about One More Day because it was garbage and has held Spidey back FOR YEARS.

Even if there is a run written by someone who does an amazing job, the next writer can just undo it all. But I also wasn’t the biggest fan of Peter running a big company. There were a few factors; It was connected to Otto’s work so it didn’t feel like something Peter built and earned, it made him too much like Tony Stark (even using Tony’s old story of a superhero being his bodyguard), and it didn’t feel very “Neighbourly” of Spider-man. Plagiarism wouldn't cause Peter to lose a billion-dollar company. I just copied and paste this crap Because I can't remember off the top of my head why Parker Industries went under. The text below is from wiki During the Secret Empire storyline, Otto Octavius, in the form of Superior Octopus, approached Peter Parker in order to get him to pass ownership of Parker Industries back to him. When Peter Parker refused the offer, Superior Octopus had the Hydra agents blow up the London branch of Parker Industries. As Peter flees to the Hong Kong branch of Parker Industries, Octavius attempts to implement various security protocols he had added to all Parker Industries tech, that allows him to retake control of anything developed by the company.[20] But Peter turns the tables on Octavius by ordering his employees to literally destroy the company in order to hurt Hydra, thwarting Octavius's attempt to shut down his new high-tech suit with an EMP by reverting to his traditional costume and turning the EMP trick against Octavius, so that his own tentacles attack him. Octavius is forced to flee the battle. Peter's decision to destroy the company yielded mixed reactions, though some of his employees and Aunt May applauded Peter for refusing to give into Hydra.

The problems do not start with One More Day. They start farther back than that. As soon as Peter and MJ got married in ASM annual #21 in 1987 the editors started panicking. The Clone Saga (which I kind of like as a kind of conclusion to classic Spider-Man comics) was an attempt to write Peter out of the main title, let him grow up, and replace him with a younger hipper version of himself. Well that didn't work and they squandered what goodwill that story had built up. Then they brought Aunt May back after her incredibly well written death in ASM 400. This was also where the plotline with baby May got all screwed up too. If you want to read where THAT version of Peter Parker gets to grow up, read Tom DeFalco's Spider-Girl which picks up immediately after The Gathering Of Five (which incidentally, sucked). One More Day was the SECOND attempt to reboot Spider-Man.

There were interesting plots, character development and everything. Then when those writers' terms are done, it's like the next writers either didn't follow from where the series left off and build on that or they said "Fuck this shit" and produce stories so shit that I swear that I'm reading fanfictions. And the worse part is, Marvel seems to prefer these type of writers because how else do their terms last so long.

A good amount of people loved Spencer’s run for the first 60 issues but some were understandable sick of waiting for the mystery. I haven’t seen anyone that likes the current run. And that’s because there really isn’t much to like outside of Osborn. The worst part of OMD was that Peter abandoned his ability to accept responsibility (which he was able to do with Ben & Gwen) and said “I can’t accept that she’s dying because it’s my fault.” Which I guess makes splitting up Peter & MJ ironic because the reason she got married to him was that responsibility defined him and that he wouldn’t deflect his mistakes like her father or try to escape them like herself. The Lost Hunter miniseries by DeMatteis is pretty good rn as well.

For some reason there's a habit of them taking good characters like Peter Parker or Tim Drake (also Dick Grayson to an extent) and taking away the relationships they had that were good and iconic and then giving them and/or the people they were with way less interesting partners after making them break up either for the sake of drama or attempting character development I don't agree with and more importantly dragging it out too long and doing it over and over again I'm Borderline as I've brought up but Spider-Man is a character that different people neurotypical or otherwise can relate to, and for me that is admittedly partially because of the crap that I am constantly going through as someone who can't really sustain relationships due to the Borderline but at the same time I just want him and MJ to just be together (the story of Spider-Man is supposed to be mostly optimistic despite a fair amount of bad things happening to him, and I want for him what I want for myself), and at the very least if there's drama I want it to be more interesting than Paul...Black Cat is good, Peter can actually work with her or Gwen pretty well...but when it comes to MJ related stuff they're being weird

Jay, I completely agree with everything you said about the current modern Spider-Man comics. Ever since one more day happened Spider-Man comics has definitely had a significant drop and if you want even more of an example of how bad is gone check out dark web and it speaks for itself. To be honest I'm hoping that they would keep the Black Cat Spider-Man romance going. And if I'm also being honest I definitely enjoyed the Symbiote Spider-Man Crossroads run that they did which I thought was a fun enjoyable series during Spider-Man's time with a black suit aka the Venom symbiote. One other thing though is that I will never forgive Marvel for what they did to Ben Riley who in my opinion was a true successor to the Spider-Man Legacy before they degraded him as the Jackal and Chasm.

I've been reading Spidey since the late 70s, when my grandma used them to teach me to read. I've been through all the highs and lows. However, around 5 or 6 years ago the lows were too much. I had to stop. Not just Spidey but all comics in general. If Marvel didn't care about their flagship characters, what did that mean for the B and C list characters? I still buy omnibus reprints of old runs but no more floppies, and I was buying about 40 books a month. As for Spidey and MJ, I had thought that based on Mephistos wording "I want your love. You will know deep inside something is gone..." That the way to reverse OMD was for them to refind each other, to realize the love that was missing so when they did honesty tell each other they love each other, then they beat the devil. Or at least something. But no, they want to take a 60 year old character and make him a millennial when they have a young Spidey with Miles. The audience grows up and they want to let younger audiences to discover Peter. They fail to see that if the older audience nopes out, who is going to introduce the new audience?

Besides Nick Spencer’s run, Spider-Man storylines have sucked for the most part over the past 15-20 years. Ever since he took off his mask in Civil War (which was totally out of character btw) Marvel unraveled a lot of cool stuff going on at the time for Spider-Man. Civil War had a huge impact on the continuity of Marvel, and One More Day was the nail in the coffin for Pete’s growth as a character: unraveling what JMS did to bring Pete and MJ back together after they were separated. Marvel editorial hates Peter Parker, his relationship with MJ, and their readership who’ve been supporting them for decades. Thank god for back issues and Spider-Man: Life Story, otherwise I wouldn’t be reading Spider-Man comics. Nuff said!

That's what I like about the Spider-verse movie and also the second movie that will come out, is that they break through the rules that the comics can't or dont want to. They made Peter b Parker older, and he is with MJ together at the end. And in the trailer for the second movie, he has a kid!😃🥰 That's so cool, and i love that they break through that formula that he is always this young Highschooler all the time. Because there not a lot of comics that explores the peter being a father and a older and more experienced side of it. And i hope that the comics take inspiration of the Spider-verse peter, and just move on, and let peter grow for once. Because it's been almost over 60 years that he is the same young peter parker. (with a few comic versions of him being older that are not well known, or executed properly. )

The only modern run of Spider-Man that I thought was pretty good was Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (2019). At least from what I read, it is pretty good. The main problem woth Spider-Man is the editors and writers. Not to mention the over-saturation of spider-powered heroes (I refuse to call them Spider-Totems because that is a load of garbage) and the fact that they refuse to let Peter move forward with his life. As an amatuer writer myself, I've been thinking of what I would do if I was ever given the job of writing Spider-Man comics, and I've got a few ideas that might be pretty good.

One More Day has certainly been a brand damager. Like I wasn’t in the comics during that time but it really goes and betrayed what Spider Man and Peter Parker was all about. It’s all about responsibility and the consequences we have to carry. Like this could have been an Uncle Ben moment. A turning point in Spider Man’s life. Where Aunt May dying is the end of her chapter, but a start of a new one with Peter. But he ended up running away and hiding from those consequences. He avoided consequences and taking responsibility. And is now in this eternal loop where in all honesty, he should be married to MJ by now. Like I’m with you, I like the pairing of Spider Man and Black Cat a lot more. But Peter and MJ are fucking iconic. He should have married her and already have kids by now. And for those people that say making Peter a father and aging him up would “alienate young readers”, like do these people think the readers wouldn’t want to see Peter as a dad and imagine him as their dad? Or just the concept of your dad being a superhero? I think you can have a lot of people connect with father Peter. Having to deal with the dangers of having your identity exposed, and along with the parental problems you might have to deal with. Actually test the relationship of Peter and MJ that are married. Explore that kind of drama. Like if they want a soap opera, you can still continue the plot without it constantly going around in circles where nothing is progressing. And it’s also a part where I think people WANT Peter happy. That there can still be problems, but we want to see him get a major W once in a while. Him being happy and having a loving family? That would be good enough for me. But right now he’s been nothing but an immature and whiney brat who is in his 20s, maybe his fucking 30s by now, IDK. But if they think people want to sit through this for another decade, then they got another thing coming to them.

Okay, if you know your recent Spidey history (or just paid attention to the video) you'll get me. One More Day happens, we revert Peter to an iteration of the character no one frankly asked for (younger, unattached, can't keep a job or girlfriend). Despite that, Brand New Day does have some worthwhile stories. Slott's run has some highs, especially Superior, as well as some lows. Spencer's run starts out well enough, does go off the rails, but the final outcomes are worthwhile (undoing Sins Past, on track to undo OMD). The current run is an undoing of that last undoing. With each run, starting after OMD, we simply keep reverting back to a Brand New Day style status quo. With Zeb Wells and Joe Kelly doing writing in the current run, we're even cycling BND era writers back into the fold. We've done everything we can with this iteration of Peter. Pete has not had substantial growth that has lasted; any moments wrap up at the end of an arc or volume of a writer's work on the character. NORMAN OSBORN has had more growth in recent years than Peter. Mary Jane isn't even a character anymore, she exists purely as the carrot at the end of the stick, regardless of the events of ASM #20. Her entire existence seems to just be centered around who she is in relation to Peter, she doesn't really get to be her own character anymore. I like her character, but if that's how it is going to be, then I think we need to write her off for a while. Let Peter age. I am nearing 30, and I can tell you my responsibilities and power (as small and minuscule as they are) have only grown. I can also tell you, Miles Morales has had great books and he can be the young Spider-Man. You can even do an anthology book for a younger Peter, or a renewed Ultimate Style book. There are also books like Peter David's Symbiote Spider-Man which just sets itself in the past for 5-6 issues at a time. We have options to do young-Pete stories. I wish Marvel would let ASM allow Peter some growth, because it is clear there is no endgame and no growth trajectory for him as a character. Shock value isn't a character arc.

I absolutely agree- when I found out about One More Day all those years ago, I felt that they ruined so much about Peter Parker & all the other impacted characters such as Mary Jane. For a long time, I've been known to state that Aunt May should have passed and Peter Parker should have been made to deal with her passing. Now, with what I've been hearing with current stories, I simply find myself continuously disappointed with how they keep Peter Parker from truly developing - progressively deafening his impact as a character. Though he is the legendary original, let Peter evolve and develop as a fictional character of a man (says a guy who continuously struggles to develop as a significant and impactful adult himself...). All the best.

Otto with a little humility, even a little, is great writing. He also is ok when he's a little arrogant like when he beats up Logan. However, most of the time his arrogance was in overdrive all the time and every other sentence was insulting somebody. As a villian? Sure. However, he was supposed to have had some humility after witnessing Peter's past when Peter finally relented trying to take back control. He still acted the same afterwards.

I remember that when I heard about the idea behind Superior Spider-Man, I thought it was dumb and a sign of having no ideas at all. See, personally I prefer when a series I like maintain some status quo: I don't like characters losing powers, memory or being pushed into a situation that seems to be pointless, because you they will get out of it eventually (e.g. mistaken identity). I thought that would be the case with Superior SM. But then I read it. Holy shit, was I wrong. An actual analysis of SM's actions throughout the years from Doc's perspective? Him trying to improve those actions and actually be the superior SM? And even Parker's comments: Why didn't I think of that? I loved it. Plus one of my favorite characters: Anna Maria Marconi. I enjoyed that run so much, I wished more of its elements were brought to the status quo they reestablished at the end. Even though current SM is mediocre at best, Superior SM was the reason I got back into reading Spider-Man and enjoy it for the first time after that blasted One More Day and both Civil Wars.

Spider-Man became less of a character and more of an idea, which is dumb since Spider-Man has always been character-driven. Now there's hundreds of alternate spider people, which, which makes Peter feel irrelevant. Kaine and Spider-Man 2099 are the only alternate Spider-Men I really like because they're different from Peter and likable in their own way. Miles is just Peter with half the personality and a different coat of paint, Spider Gwen is the dumbest thing I've seen, and the other several hundred are just lame. For me, Spider-Man ended pre-civil war. The JMS run last the last consistently great run. Ever since Slott and Bendis, Spider-Man went from a roast-god who was genuinely funny to a clown who annoys the readers just as much as the villains. Spider-Man has always been my favorite character of all time and it's sad to see this happen to him. I never bought an issue from the Spencer run because I knew it was just poorly written fan-bait. Sucks to be right sometimes.

I'll agree to disagree with you on Miles. I have seen just the webhead fall from grace and it has been a painful decline. They don't want to grow him up and it makes no sense. I personally think and I have been thinking this for awhile and after this last issue it kinda cemented it. They want to get rid of Peter but they don't know how. They are trying to in a way break the news slowly that is what they are going to do because every passing event, issue, or whatever it seems like he just can never catch a grip. Like he is a rookie again, like he doesn't know how to deal with women or anything. I have ALWAYS said the best way to end his run is to grow him up and have May Day Parker take the mantle like in the What if... Storyline. Cause clearly they have a hate boner for him and Steve Rogers as well. I have basically done what you said. Just read them on the internet because each spider event that has come out has fallen flat. I didn't even really like the Ben Reilly run especially after what they did to him souring that whole arc. I think it is time for the Spider-Man writing team needs a pow wow meeting and really decide. What is the best direction. I at this point can't do anymore Spidey in his 30s acting like he's 18. The spider verse events don't help it either.

I kinda hate Dan Slott but "Superior" was the last good Peter Parker arc. Peter as co-pilot in his own body was (oddly enough) a perfect way to highlight what's great about Peter. It also shows why the Peter/Otto relationship is his most important mentor/antagonist (Connors, Osborn, Jameson, et al). As an 80s/90s reader, I think Spider-Man comics never fully recovered from the editorial power struggle over the Hobgoblin. The Clone Saga was where most of my generation of readers signed off. There were some good stories here & there but the character of Peter Parker never "felt" the same after. It hasn't ALL been bad; "Superior" was one of my favorite Spidey stories ever and I think "Avenging Spider-Man" was criminally underrated... but the Grey Goblins? Alpha? Parker Industries?! Gimme Miles, Kaine or Ben Rielly any day of the week.

I mean I agree that the will they won't they aspect of MJ and Peter is wildly played out and I totally agree that I don't care anymore. Like I'd be honestly fine if they moved onto a different love interest for the next couple decades frankly, maybe that's what he needs. Like if they want Pete to remain single and struggle with relationships then to me it's like, "okay then that relationship can't be with MJ because we've seen it, we know it. We know how this plays out, there's no scenario you can give us with them that we haven't seen." So I think if they want to keep that aspect of Pete that's fine, but then it HAS to be a different love interest like yeah Black Cat, or fuck I don't know have him rekindle something with Betty Brant and make drama out of that ffs. Like- anyone would do. I do however disagree that OMD is the root cause of the issue. I think if you want to be mad at the fixation with OMD, you need to look in the mirror. It's the fandom. Like- there's nothing that really ties back to OMD anymore aside from Peter and MJ not being together. But that's no longer due to OMD and just Marvel editorial. Like at any point they could have gotten back together or they could have just called it quits for good, none of the recent events are a direct result of the Mephisto deal. So I think if you want that fixation to end everyone needs to get the fuck over OMD. Until people do that nothing will change. It almost feels like because of the fandom's weird fixation on this single event that Marvel even bothers continuing the will they won't they. Because they know it bothered people. As soon as people just went with the flow Marvel would stop this dumb shit, because no one would care, at least that's my opinion. I don't think there's an issue with Pete being a screw up, I think- it's his characterization that's probably hurt him the most. I don't know, I think there's a lot of variables. But I think the fixation on the Pete and MJ relationship by fans is the real thing killing the series, because Marvel sees that shit and leans into it. Like I said I think if people just stopped with that shit and took things as they came then Marvel would actually have to focus on other elements, but as is focusing on this old ass will they wont they shit, keeps paying off for them because it keeps people invested like you said. But anyways, that's just my two cents.

I loved J Michael Straczynski's run, particularly the opening with Morlun. I liked a lot how he became a high school teacher at the same school that he grew up in. The character GREW, but still always let people down - missing class for students who really looked up to him, to save lives. I read hundreds of the early Spiderman comics growing up through the essentials collection, and this modern version felt like the same character - the themes were the same. He still had a bit of sass and a SPINE. He picked fights, he was smart, he felt like a New Yorker. And that's part of why the Sam Reimi movies are still my favorite, he still needed growth, but he was still mature. He was a man. That's why I hate the modern Spiderman in the MCU. The character in the comics was barely even in high school, and even when he was, he had a job, and took care of his family. He was basically an adult even in his original issues. It's no surprise they have no Uncle Ben or sense of responsibility, in thr newest movies, modern writers don't see him as a teen of the times with the weight of the world on his shoulders, but as a modern useless teen. (Hey, I wasn't any better, but having his young aunt take care of him, constantly being under the wing of other characters, etc, it made no sense to me for who the character really was.) The character has been getting younger and younger for every animated show, but that was common for shows on kids wb, they had their 'young batman' 'teen titans who acted younger than their comic counter parts' 'static shock/young black lightning' but somewhere along the line, this young version of Spider Man stuck and is all that anyone seems to remember the character for. What happened to the 90's animated version who was built like a brick house? I admit, I haven't seen any Spiderman movies since Homecoming. I just thought it was awful and didn't want to see any more of this baby Spiderman. Thanks for visiting my long old man ramble.

One of the main problems is that Peter’s entire character is based upon responsibility and yet he’s written in a way where he consistently makes the most irresponsible decisions. The most powerful Spidey moments have always been when he wants something but he has to sacrifice it in the name of responsibility. We need to get back to that:

an even bigger problem is that all heroes are responsible, so that trope doesn't mean a lot tacking it on to one character.

One more day was always weird to me. You’re going to sacrifice the love of your life for your aunt who’s old enough to be your great grandmother?

Yeah Spencer seemed to really care about Spider-Man. He wrote the stories as if he was personally a fan and not a sadist. I just think that he probably didn't have Uthoeurg to do whatever he wanted. There were murmurs and reports that they wouldn't let him undo One More Day, but did concede to retconning and allowing him to change Sins Past.

Venom: King in Black, Absolute Carnage, Black Cat and Mary Jane, Ghost Spider and Renew your Vows were the only Spidey comics I've read over the last few years til their runs ended. I've had more fun with those stories dealing *AROUND* Spider-Man than his actual books. It saddens me really! 😥 🕷 ❤

For me the comics haven’t been as good since around 2013/2014. Especially Spider-man. It also not just him Ben Reilly and his scarlet Spider and his character has been ruined.

One of the things that made Spider-man appealing and unique specifically for the era he was created in was that he was really the first character in comics that we were following his life from high school to college to young adulthood and marriage. Ever since One More Day the character has effectively been in stasis as a 20 something directionless man who just goes through whatever gimmicky storyline the writer can come up with to keep him doing things but is ultimately meaningless in service to the status quo. I won’t say that there haven’t been any good Spider-Man comics since OMD but it does all feel pretty meaningless. I truly think that if Marvel wants to get the character out of the rut he’s in they need to restore his marriage first. A storyline or miniseries that led into their marriage being renewed would sell like hotcakes and Marvel editorial knows it but is way too prideful to let it happen.

Godzillamendoza touched on all this stuff about modern Spidey comics in his playthrough of the Ultimate Spider-Man game from 2005 which is a great watch btw. A lot of it is Dan Slott hate rants but he's pretty funny about it and makes good points about the direction Marvel has been in recent years.

I don't read mainline Spiderman, I'm only readind Deadly Neighborhood and Double Trouble, so seeing this thinking you meant ALL current runs on Spiderman was a bit of a surprise.

Yep. It's hard to read spiderman comics nowadays. The only good runs in the last 15 years were the back in black story arc and his first encounters with Morlun. Nowadays he's always getting the crap kicked out of him. I also don't like the effeminate way he's drawn sometimes.

Great breakdown. I’ve loved SpiderMans character for as long as I can remember but the past 10yrs have been a let down when it comes to his comics. I agree Superior Spiderman was actually a decent but outside of that keeping up with his stories have been more of a chore than anything.
