I have definitley heard this rumor, but honestly I find Protection so powerful, especially in Solo. I started around Mutant Genesis, so I had the majority of the card pool, but I love just defending, having retaliate, playing cards in the villian phase. Protection is so fun and strong, that I have to go out of my way to play other aspects....BUT I agree with people's general cons for protection. Love the Video WWF. Mythbusters is a fun idea. Maybe test the myth that Rocket Racoon can easily beat Ultron.

Thanks Olops! Glad you’re enjoying this series :) I wanted to showcase protection outside of defending, that’s why I played a weak defender like Hawkeye 😂 but i can see the appeal of defending attacks especially successfully running the perfect defense engine. Personally i believe in the myth that Rocket Raccoon is an Ultron slayer! Excess damage to drone minions draws him tons of extra cards

I mean Bishop, Drax, Ghost-Spider, and Iron Man are all incredible Protection based heroes. They all showcase the strengths of the aspects in different ways, and all 4 of them absolutely love going green.

Yes but i think an aspect’s power is more evident when paired with a hero they don’t have synergy with!

@webwarriorfanatic I'm personally in the camp while using aspects with characters that don't synergize with it is fun, but not a great idea in the long run. I like to run the heroes and aspects at their best.

Red Skull sure can get out of control sometimes with those side schemes! I have to admit this makes me want to put together a protection deck for Hawkeye and go up against all of the Mutant Genesis villains (including expert Magneto, though sometimes I find expert Mansion Attack more challenging). The last time I played Hawkeye in Protection was about a year ago, and I went with a SHIELD build with Sky Destroyer, of course, and included a ton of allies and 3 Med Teams so that they did damage when they came in and also added a lot of healing at the same time. I've always liked builds with What Doesn't Kill Me, too, though. That has to be one of my most used cards in Protection.

That sounds like a tough challenge haha. What Doesn’t Kill Me is to me the most versatile protection card since it’s not locked to perfect defense stuff. Getting hero form healing combined with a ready feels really good 😁👌🏻

There are a handful of heroes where they can compete in protection, like Ghost Spider for example. But nice job taking on hard scenario with a weaker hero.

I agree! Thank you. I wanted to show off a weaker hero who doesn’t necessarily have extra synergy in protection for this challenge to showcase the versatility of the aspect :)

I think it is fine that Hawkeye is weak. Since all heroes can't be created equal, I'm glad the weak spot is attributed to character that fit that power level like Black Widow and Hawkeye. But they both still work against villain of their era like Red Skull, which is also very thematic for them. Shield fighting Hydra makes more sense, than them fighting Thanos, and surviving lol. I don't know if you noticed but your protection deck while efficient, is kinda "old". 2 cards from wave 5, What does not kill me and Daredevil, and everything else is from wave 1 except star hawk. For sure Prof X is wave 6, but he is basic card. This show that you don't need the full collection, and can be "outdated", like mine, and still doing well. That is also showing that protection, get very small increase in power since Wave 5. Very good game. Thank you for the video!

I'm not sure this proves anything, but I don't think there was anything to prove in the first place. Protection used to be bad in solo very early in the game's lifespan, and now it's a fantastic aspect. I think this game showcased the good and the bad of hawkeye very well. His gameplan is a bit clunky, and restricted by having to use his bow. At the same time, you almost always had the right tool for the situation once his quiver was in place, and you could keep dumping status effects on the villain, building towards a slow but steady win (which is what I find so fun about him). Two recommendations I have to make for Hawkeye decks, which unless I missed it your deck didn't have, are superpower training (which adds consistency to finding the quiver) and the Sharpshooter basic upgrade, which is a fantastic boost to his damage, as most of your attacks are ranged, so the extra 1 or 2 damage per arrow quickly add up.

Great game. I'm thinking: would it be worth to have more Avenger Allies and Earth's Mightiest Heroes to ready even more for more Arrows or Basic Attacks. Unfortunately there are not that many in Protection, though.

I just played a projection deck with Captain America, and I have a very small card pool, so I speak to the strength and limited abilities of the green early on. It’s not great, but with Captain America it is usable true solo. I doubt I’ll play green again for some time, once my card count climbs.

Ehat a nail biter of a game! Yes protection is viable but i so think it is the most difficult aspect to play true solo. I don't think this is a bad thing - I think it allows you to get a serious challenge out of a lower tier villian. This allows you to get a Ronan or VenGob eqivalent difficulty without having to always play Ronan or VenGob for the topmost difficulty.

@webwarriorfanatic I apologize. I meant, you pick a hero to run the whole thing. You play Sandman, when you move go to the next scenario, any card you used against Sandman (besides the hero kit) can't be used going forward. Changing aspects is kosher.

All aspects are viable on true expert solo...but leadership is the strongest, especially in heroic solo mode (the 90% of my heroic wins).

I agree to an extent. I can’t speak for heroic, but non-heroic where AE is more accessible i personally believe justice > leadership

I disagree, leadership has very strong cards, allies are the best cards of the game so having access to the best allies means something (+ cards to recurring allies from discard pile...or from the deck). X-men allies or Avengers built with leadership are insane...justice aspect is great for some heroes but leadership works for all heroes.

Good game. I tried this challenge a couple days ago and it was…not particularly fun 😂 I did pull out the win on my first attempt, but it was touch and go for most of the game. My deck was very similar to yours, but instead of energy barrier, I put in Directed Force to help compensate for Hawkeye’s lack of burst damage. Since his arrows are all ranged, Directed Force worked nicely. Except for the explosive arrow, which isn’t an attack 😢. Hawkeye just isn’t allowed to have nice things.

Thanks Mitch! I’ll be honest i didn’t know of the existence of Directed Force. That works really well with Hawkeye’s ranged arrow events 💯 i wish it was more impactful like an upgrade or something, but i think it flows well with his tempo and it definitely would have helped out this game 😅👌🏻

@ I also wish it were an upgrade, so it could be planned around better. But at least Hawkeye can keep a vibration arrow in his quiver until he draws directed force, then let them both fly. Because of his ability to hold arrows until he needs them, I find this card works better for him than just about anyone.

@@mitch-TO Good point! And yeah, if the Quiver can hold enough arrows I can see Hawkeye actually being strong. Finding a way to store every arrow might be a fun path for me playing him again

I think you’re right, jehoba! Energy Barriers can only prevent 1 damage per instance of attack, and iirc in the beginning of the turn i could have gotten Red Skull down to 3 health so i initially thought the Energy Barrier would have failed (only preventing 2), but when the minion attacked i could have pinged it back to Red Skull for the kill! Thanks for the feedback :)
