The board of investors drove David Brevik out and replaced him with one of the board members sons, who was then outed by his ex-wife as a pervert. When Disney found out that the board hid the new guy's legal history they immediately pulled the license. That's what happened.

And despite the promise that the game would remain open until the end of 2017 (giving a couple months after the shutdown notice), Gazillion's owners (the people responsible for the whole mess) fired all remaining staff early so they could liquidate the company. The players got screwed, the staff got REALLY screwed. I loved the game, was an original supporter pack purchaser, and spent way too much money on additional characters/costumes/whatever else over the years.. but Disney's decision in refusing a license renewal was entirely justified.

I'd be them, i'd do low profile while not 100%. City of Heroes had several tries, all dismissed by "Cease and desist" from lawyers, they decided to put server source on the web, too late to be stopped. But Marvel Heroes Omega is alas far from 100% functional, and may easily be stopped by Marvel/Disney for now :(

How is this legal exactly? Doesnt Disney own the Marvel license now? Where did these guys get the source code and all the assets for this game to be able to actually "work" on it? Also, is this going to be an official re-release of the game to the public? Or will this just be an underground project that a few people will have access to? @@fedord01 many other dead RPGs have been brought back the same way by fans. As long as money isn't involved Disney are not touching it. The way it works is if you have the game in your steam account you can just run the emulator for offline play or join a public server to play with others.
