For hand effects, I used the ones that came with Polaris. I still prefer the Mysterio from the Lizard BAF series though. It's more comic accurate, and the greens are nice.

I hope that Hasbro re-tools the Luke Cage /Hydro man buck, they could release a sandman on that body in a deluxe form like the recent War Machine and black widow figure. He could have sand weapon attachments for the hands, sandy stuff stuff to clip onto his feet like Hydro man, and a few alternative heads.

@@ImaHeatseekr well.... never say never. They may not exactly that, but they could do something similar. Plus, I'm getting used to the uniform look of the Hasbro stuff. Having a more delicately sculpted figure that's all cut up with articulation would be jarring for my shelf. The classics one is still a pretty good looking fig tho.

I prefer the old Mysterio Hasbro did as he is more comic accurate in colors. I do love the wash on the body of the new one, but the colors are wrong. God that Toy Biz figure looks terrifying as always.

as for the red Cape debate mysterio did have a red cape in the video game spiderman shattered dimension during the final boss fight he mostly had purple during the rest if it and I think the purple one is better option.

Yeah I looked his cape is purple I even looked up the 90s cartoon Mysterio and it's purple. I guess they wanted to give it a more animated look, it's just a lighter purple I like it and will be replacing the older one🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️ and I'm ganna put the smoke effects the old ones and new ones around him my Mysterio is ganna look sick, and I like the skull better so I'm ganna switch them out. And at least we don't have to put cotton balls in the bowl anymore, I think this is what people wanted a white fish bowl🤷‍♂️

Another instance was he removed his helmet to reveal he was headless. Another time he took it off to show half his face was missing (which was from him shooting himself after his loss to daredevil).

Considering my pre-order for the previous figure was cancelled so I don't have any Mysterio figure(other than movie) I'm stoked to see that it's actually a good figure. Only one I'm missing from the Sinister six is Sandman (none of the versions before have appealed to me enough to bother getting them) I'm surprised you didn't do a cape swap for your shelf display.

Might be my eyes but the original release looks shorter than the running change and this new one. I also maintain they should use the Hydroman body with retooled arms and the original BAF effects hands(could also retool Hydroman's leg effects to look like sand aswell) and a new headsculpt for a new Sandman, the original releases(especially the raft version) work better if he is seen as mid transformation/making himself larger.

Great review! Personally I'm pretty split on this release as Mysterio's one of my top 2 Spider-Man villains and the new wash on the body looks amazing and should've been on the previous version, but aside from that I prefer the all green color scheme of the previous version, it's just my preferred look for the character. Plus I don't get what they were going for with the Quentin Beck head sculpt since he's mostly retained his unattractive face and bowl-cut look throughout most of his comic appearances so I find the choice of head sculpt pretty weird, and whilst I get they're saving money by reusing an older head sculpt why make it translucent green if we're not going to be able to see it anyway since they reworked the dome piece? Maybe I'm being too picky since I went through a lot of trouble to get the previous version from Hasbro which took me a lot of time and more money than it probably should have, so the idea of just replacing it doesn't sit well with me, but I'll say that looking at this purely as a figure it looks objectively better than the previous version, still not sure if I'll be picking it up though.

Agreed completely on your assessment. Objectively, this looks better. Avocado green, gold, and maroon are a great color scheme, the painted lines are great, and I love the pearl paint on the helmet... but the first one looks more like Mysterio. If that one had the pearl paint on the helmet, I'd be all set. As it is, I'm planning to paint the cape on this one purple so as not to wreck the more valuable one.
