Marvel Legends VISION Action Figure Review

I already have the Select Vision which blows Legends out of the water in terms of accessories and aesthetic. Blast effect parts, 2 heads, a cape that rests more naturally and has shading, and paint everywhere. Only thing this one has over Select is articulation but the display options provided by the accessories and the sculpt/paint more than make up for it. And for only $5 more. I’ll take quality over quantity any day. QOTD: I don’t think any company intentionally wants to make bad figures, so it has to be incompetence. Especially since Hasbro has shown in the past they can make really good figures.

I switched his cape for the retro card Vision's cape. It's a surprising improvement. The more mustard yellow of the older cape mitigates the mismatched yellows on the figure. Hasbro has always had issues matching yellows. Bumblebee figures have especially suffered for it.

For a basic classic vision, this is all you need. Awesome headsculpt gotta give them that. Vulcan buck is more than you need for this character. Cape sucks, but i get custom soft goods capes for all my cape wearing figs.

If you’re looking for an actually good vision figure I definitely recommend marvel select’s take on him. Tons of accessories, brilliant paint, I will say less articulation, but just around 2 to 5 dollars for than the marvel legends

This is my favorite look. I think is both, I think is clear that Hasbro is making purposelly decreassing the potential of some figures that you would consider "definitive" so that people buy a new one to fix that mistake, just to name 2 examples that come to my mind right now: BaF movie Thanos, they made him grape purple, like that old school McDonald's character, you want a right one? buy the 10th Anniversary 3 pack, you want the snapping hand gesture? buy the 5 pack from Infinity War. You want Captain America? buy the 80th years one, don't like the colors? buy the 20th Anniversary one, it has holes in his shield? buy another Captain that has a shield with no holes. Rarely they make a true definitive version, the new classic Black Widow? I don't know how they would top that one, Spiral?, the same and really a few others, way less than there are figures that are propense to become "obsolete" when the new one gets released. That for one side, for the other, mistakes in proportions and laziness are really there, the bad proportions in the shoulders to name the most popular complaint I think can't be purposelly make that way because no one will buy Ant-man or Hawkeye and then once they change the shoulders be like "yeah, I really need this figure for his shoulders", that's not enough for an anchor point to drag more consumers to change entire roosters of their characters and I bet Hasbro doesn't even think about the shoulders or other mistakes like that as mistakes, because there's no real reason for them to not fix it, so incompetence right there.

Bobby Vala (the guy who owns Action Force and used to work at Hasbro) said he worked with Dwight (lead designer on Marvel Legends) and that Dwight always made the arms too long, shoulders too low, didn't know how to make legs do the splits, etc. Dwight also said he's going to cut a bigger hole in the back of Giant Man's neck so he can look up higher. So Dwight definitely doesn't understand how to make toys. They could make a better Black Widow, better butterfly joints, better torso articulation scheme, ankle swivel, more paint, possibly toe articulation. I don't think Hasbro has ever made a figure that couldn't be better.

Yeah, I've heard that of Dwight before, seems like a good guy in interviews and I'm sure he has heard some of that critiscism before, I don't know why he hasn't take it into account yet. And as for the best versions, yeah, I mean, every figure can be "perfect" with flawless articulation, likeness, accessories, sculpt and more, I meant that when Hasbro makes another Black Widow doubtfully will be better than this one (for Hasbro standards) so no dumbell joints for example, butterfly joints and toe articulation? sure but even then it won't come with interchangeable heads and stingers and that many hands. This release pretty much hitted the right spots for the majority and Hasbro himself won't top itself with a new release that could be called "definitive" at least in a very long time, more than 5 years or more. @@chewymew

Q1 of the Day: This version is my favorite. Q2 of the Day: I think the budget constraints placed on the design team by their corporate overlords have led to frustration and apathy. Yes, I’m essentially saying that the design team is depressed. Laugh if you want, but I think most us have had jobs where we feel like it doesn’t matter if we try our best or don’t try at all. Well I am sure Hasbro made online retailers and mom and pop shops suffered due to gross incompetence at some point, not everybody is a Target or a Walmart lol. But yeah lets screw over the real stores by giving the big box store early access to products! The legends used to be the most popular toy line that was been shilled by almost every youtube toy reviewer.. yet the products are still not selling because the lines consist of 70 to 80% overpriced reused parts in different colors. They should just make a deal with Dollar Tree or Dollar General and make them exclusives there for $2.99! Hopefullu the dollar stores don't have to sell them to Ross to be resold at $.29 cents. Hasbro can sell stuff for cheap.. because Hasbro just sold off eOne for $375 million when Hasbro bough it for $3.8 billion so I am sure reducing legends to $2.99 is doable! Only miracle would be if Hasbro can unbankrupt some retailers and restore their reputations.. they screwed everyone and there is no one left to screw.. so it is time to screw themselves.

So here is my thought. And I could be wrong on this. It's just my theory. I collect Classified mainly. And clearly, more effort gets put into those. There is grips at times like the weapons bend too easily. But overall, I like the classified line. I mean I just got Mutt and Junkyard. It's safe to say there made better this entire wave...hmmmmm I mean yes I think Power Princess is pretty good. But Mutt would still win. Hell the Dog alone is done better then most of that legend's wave. THE DOG!!! So why? I honestly think this has something to do with Disney. Maybe I'm wrong. But I see a bit more effort go into MCU figures (which most of the time don't sell as well.) My guess is Disney wants more focus on the MCU figures to lure in kids to see the movies, and don't care much about the comic stuff. I don't know. I just feel like this isn't entirely Hasbro's fault. I honestly think Disney has more to do with it. Or I'm wrong and just want to blame Disney for something horrible again. Also I'm still laughing over your comment with Swampthing. LOL, that was good. I love this figure, but I hate the cape. It looks good, but it's too heavy and it makes him back heavy. I ordered a wired cloth cape on eBay, and that will arrive next week. The yellows don't look bad to me under natural lighting. Decent figure for a Hasbro release IMO.

Hasbro is purposefully making bad figure so that they can make new ones that are also bad, they know their customers will eat it up, else decade old accessories and sculpts wouldn't be used still to this day, even the new stuff they make are rarely good, they put in the least effort and people will still buy that shit purely due to some nostalgia or connection or being on their wish list of characters, unless people start trying out other brands like Jada or Spero Toys(this company uses ab crunches which are perfectly executed, go far back without looking like a pizza over, and go forward fully) and actually understand what value for money is, I don't see any development happening from Hasbro's end.

I think they regularly do planned obsolescence, for example, they keep making Wolverines, Spiderman, Venom definitive versions that have a minor flaw to sell this popular characters again in the future. But also they're just flat out incompetent, making a lot of mistakes that look not intentional with figures like Random, Avalanche, etc

Oh absolutely is planned obsolescence a thing for a lot of toy companies. Hasbro's particularly bad about it since some "definitive" versions will have desired accessories others won't, forcing you to buy the same character again if you want it. Wolverine's a good one, I like the accessories of the VHS but X-Men 97 is a better figure overall. Captain America's another decent example. First came the 80 years Cap then the ML 20th Anniversary with better colors but pins and a holey shield. They'll soon do a pinless version with a standard shield to get us to buy another one for a "definitive" classic Cap.

Honestly, I think it’s a combination of incompetence & laziness. There’s zero excuse for the garbage that Hasbro pumps out on a consistent basis other than people keep eating up the slop so there’s not much reason to really improve (at least in their minds anyway). People can’t even use the excuse of the price point anymore for Hasbro’s lack of effort/care because a lot of other companies are pumping out better stuff at similar price points. It’s also embarrassing how much Hasbro fails at implementing articulation, horrible double ball pegs, that awful diaphram joint/reverse ab-crunch they have, even when they started using the drop down hips for some figures the only thing I could think was “good job Hasbro, you caught up to like 10 years ago…”.

I think it's planned. There are tons of looks, but you'll notice we don't get 15 versions of less popular characters or looks. They know who and what sells. How many different spidermen are there? Which look has the most figures? I'll just continue to use the marvel select vision. I don't like how Hasbro figures look like frankenstein creation. Different colors, different styles, different finishes. Their products rarely look cohesive

I think it's a combination of both, incompetence and purpose. There are things that feel deliberated like that Captain America shield with the holes, kind of an excuse to make people buy another one just for the shield. I'd like to see you reviewing the Marvel Select Vision, that figure has some problems but it feels like a better purchase than this one, comes with more stuff and it's cheaper than Hasbro's (at least in my country).

Thank you for your review on this one Anthony. I appreciate all your efforts however, I suspect more energy was probably wasted then your efforts. The classic John Buscema Vision is favored which is not captured here. Collecting ML products from a time when it was considered an adult collectible has diminished. Complacency and laziness are obvious choices to blame on this demise yet something tells me there is a possibility that budget restraints on comic based character design might be the culprit.

It's not incompetence. Hasbro has been cutting corners anyway they can to maximize short term profits (just look at what they are doing with Wizards of the Coast, D&D and Magic the Gathering). If they make crappy figures and people keep buying them, there is absolutely no incentive for Hasbro to improve.

They are too big and successful, making too much money, and getting so much feedback they could use to make better products on the same budget… and they still refuse to produce good products for the most part. Another fantastic headsculpt by Paul Harding. I follow him on Twitter and he's always doing solid work, even when the rest of the figure falls flat. I know it's out of scale for Legends, but Marvel Selects Vision would be a good contrasting review. Has the typical poseability concessions, arms are a bit short, but otherwise looks very good.

I think this figure looks bad. Yeah, head sculpt looks pretty nice, but the whole cheap looking body ruins the overall aesthetic of the figure. I mean, those cheap black lines on his stomach are seriously jarring. It looks so bad. I think they’re incompetent. They don’t care about how cool it should look because they only think about money. They probably think quantity is better than quality and think it’ll bring them more money. They’re just regurgitating the same crap mold in many different colored designs to make the most money out of it in the easiest way possible.

Team Marvel is outdated, they do glued capes, don't care articulation, and keep doing the same mistakes over and over., they even do those crazy ideas of pinless arms, but not the legs. At least this Vision is taller than the older versions, which was a big mistake of this character, I prefer this mold than Bucky Cap, and he is also full pinless, that's an update against the other versions.

Imagine if Jada had made this. There'd probably be shading throughout, better articulation and effect piece and an extra head.
