I'm with you on the Magneto front man......Hasbro's lack of ability in making a good classic Magneto is what drove me into the somewhat expensive arms of Mafex.....that Magneto figure is fire

I like the 97 figure but he's just a wee bit short... Customized with wired cape and some good special effects and I'm happy with it though. Didn't cost me an arm and a leg.

My ranking: 6. Magneto: Not a popular Magnus suit, but have nice head sculpts for the other Magneto figures and uses Vulcan body mold. 7/10 5. Cyclops: Personally, an unnecessary release, because the previous Cyclops has not even been launched on the market for a year. And yeah, I prefer the VHS head over the younger new head despite the angry head with optic blast. 8/10 4. Nightcrawler: One of my least favorite X-Men characters, I think is a necessary release after the last was launched 5 years ago. But in part is a simple figure and doesn't have his sword and a smoke effect. 8.2/10 3. Jean Grey: I'm really happy with this new version, despite I have the Love Triangle version. She has a beautiful heads and a new body sculpt with nice details in her suit, but the torso articulation is a bit annoying and inefficient. 9/10 2. X-Cutioner: Never heard about this character, but I'm surprised about how is his new body mold and details, despite the limited articulation in parts.9/10 1. Goblin Queen: For far, the most anticipated in this wave. Is very satisfying how finally have a figure from one of my favorite X-Villains in all time. A beautiful head sculpt, almost new body mold and good accessories including a baby Cable, despite her poor stability 9.3/10

Because of how cartoony cyclops face (which is expected for this line) i recently picked up the astonishing Cyclops. Either outfit works for me but this versions blast effect.... damn i wanted it.

Manny awesome review of the entire wave . I completely agree with you about Magneto. They definitely need to update classic Magneto. He's not bulky enough and he's shorter that Cyclops. The guys is supposed to be 6"8 and Scott is 6"3. I wonder how the Mafex Magneto sizes up next to this Cyclops.

I need to update my Cyclops. The MAFEX is out of my price range. So I will go with this 97 one. It's about time they added the optic blast head. They had no excuse for not including that with the Astonishing X-men Cyclops. They even went to the trouble of adding the hair this time. So it makes no sense.

Dude I love these X-men 97 figures so much. Some of my favorite legends we’ve gotten in a while. Both wave 1 and 2 didn’t have a bad figure in them. I have my fingers crossed for a 3rd wave. Would really love to see Morph and jubilee

Love these figs. Hope they keep the 97 line going. I hear you on Magento man. I think the new pinless one of the classic suit is dope but I agree they need to use the Vulcan Buck. The new hero magneto is sick tho. Gambit from wave one is in a similar boat. Needs an updated body buck. Hope we see Beast in the next wave and Animated street clothes Logan.

Yo xmanny from what I see sh figuarts only does mcu stuff and Mafex I might be wrong only do smaller characters I guess maybe they haven’t gotten to some of the larger characters like a comic blob, juggernaut, a hulk I seen they did Thor but they made him small, so my question is do you think Mafex are going to do larger characters? I got grips all day with this wave, but I have lowered my expectations with ML so this is all round just nice to have or add but nothing mind blowing, missed chance at a perfect Nightcrawler and that's unforgivable, hoping that Magnus buck can give us a future GIDEON figure. Also why did they do Jeans forehead like that, sculpting a hairline and not painting the skin above the mask shm, the fact that these pass a BOSS at HASBRO that says yes to these Shortcuts is what disappoints me most, sorry I'm still sour over the last and lack of GAMBIT, great review as always X thanks for the work put in

Hopefully original Magneto will come with the Vulcan body… so needed until then 97 wave one works. That cyclops head needs to be updated and nightcrawler needs the articulated toes like the toybiz. To be the original one that’s a test with seeing they gave us Spider-Man

The waves lack accessories but the detail is nice and tempting. One day we will get a Nightcrawler Bamf accessory that can port on to him. In Jesus name lol. And Magneto needs his force field. It would have been nice to see jean with a Telepathy energy effect that ports into her head Like her Psi-beam shooting out her forehead, rather than the detachable ponytail. I have the Purple Magneto in my Outback era X-men display with Punk Storm, Outback Rogue, Havok, Polaris, Longshot, Dazzler Brown suit Wolverine and Colossus . He looks really good.

This wave is indeed a head scratcher when it comes to new parts and reuse, I’m sure most people would prefer new arms for Vulcan body that could be reused rather than those long gloves being sculpted on of the least liked Magneto costumes.

Magneto continues to be a kick in the teeth. I like Vulcan for this look. A little leaner and downsized. But yeah it makes the previous one all the more glaring. I still can't get over they made a new chest for him and beefed it so hard. The Sentry or Grim Reaper bodies either would have been my choice to give him some mass. Jean turned out better than I expected though I'm still keeping my eye out for a VHS one. The wait rocker joint works for the most part but I still think diaphragm is way more natural looking if they had to pick between the 2. Nightcrawler is one of my favorite Xmen and was my favorite during the show. I think Hasbro is never going to beat the Toybiz. That's one figure that'll just stand the test of time.

Really on the fence on many of these. Teally good figures, but when you compare them to the package art, many are more cartoonish than the supposed cartoon artwork itself. Example: Cyclops. Side by side with artwork, the fig loses a bit, even though it's still good. Simple thing like a wash in the hair would make it less like a toy for ages 4-8.

I picked up everything except the nightcrawler. I think the old one is just way better. The only upgrade is the pin-less joints but still I don’t think it’s worth it. I think the old head sculpts are better and well it’s better comes with the swashbuckling sword and I mean there’s not much else really This new one is basically the old one but pin less

Watching the new X-Men 97 is like watching the new Ducktales and calling it a continuation of the previous. The action is good but the direction of theme is not for kids. The heart of the show is another. Some say it's comic accurate which is what they always wanted. Personally I rather have the ones I can show kids.

Jean is the cherry of this cake, no doubts about that. Magneto should have this mold in his classic look, way better for him. Cyclops is really good, if you check the figure of 90s X-Men vs Street Fighter, you will see the plan of Hasbro.

Anyway. It made me curious too so I decided to find that effect's name. It's "tamashii nations burning flame" and it comes in different colours P.S. apparently it's in stock at BBTS but only in a traditional red/orange/yellow fire 🔥 colours

@the_cheap_ones it’s from a knock off Tamashii Nations flame FX that came in different colors. Tamashii only sold blue flame and orange. The knock off company sold purple, green and I forgot the other color. I bought it so long ago. Like back in 2015 I think.

The only clip from X-Men '97 featuring Nightcrawler, which has been featured in one of the teaser trailers thus far shows him using his swords. So... they couldn't give him his swords? Would it really have increased the cost of producing this wave to the point where Hasbro couldn't have turned a profit? I think not.
