well there is progress in that the misconception of pretty much all black cast not being able to make blockbuster money is wrong.

Anything big and great as an endeavor takes a little bit at a time over a long period of time usually. This movie is progress albeit a small one but never the less progress. If you expected big changes like actual civil war scale change then who is being naïve here. I am not saying it couldn't happen again and very will happen if middle class completely disappears, that scale of change will happen but until then no major progress will happen but a little at a time. Progress sometimes takes a step back but will always have momentum moving forward.

Andreas Wiehe Indeed. Let me pose this for your consideration. In 1863, blacks were supposedly freed and during that time they held less than HALF of 1% of this nation's wealth. Today in 2018 blacks still own LESS THAN HALF OF 1% of the nation's wealth. So please tell me how much "progress" has been made. As you stated, "This movie is progress albeit a small one but never the less progress". How long will we continue to say "next time and we're coming along or we're progressing"? The nature of this post was to point out the fact that THIS MOVIE is just a MOVIE and it DID NOT belong to black people as the primary culture that would benefit in terms of wealth and generational wealth. BLACK PANTHER is Not a political statement of growth in this country. I believe that there must be a more specific definition of "progress" if your position is that there has been so-called progress made. With all due respect ma'am, I must say that the one in this comment section "who is being naïve here" is in fact not me. Interesting position nevertheless. Thanks so much for your comments. Please share more of your thoughts, we'd love to hear from you.

I'm just saying that 1% doesn't give you the whole picture or the context. Because if black people back in 1863 see how black people live today all the good and bad it still progress. I am not saying its great for black people today or minorities in general its just that your 1% percent is too black and white (no pun intended) and that there are nuances to such big things as this.

Andreas Wiehe I do follow you. However, my position is one that must be based in "black and white" dynamics, they can't be torn from the facts. The point that is the primary consideration of my show in regards to mere facts is that, there has been no "real progress" except in terms of very ambiguous items and token icons that represent nothing more than the appearance of growth and progress. I'm not sure what your nationality is, but clearly I am UNAPOLOGETICALLY BLACK and NO true progress has been made with BLACK PEOPLE(not minorities in general) AS A GROUP percentage wise in nearly 500 years in this country. Not in terms of select individuals, but as a COLLECTIVE GROUP FINANCIALLY, POLITICALLY, JUDICIALLY, SOCIALLY, SOCIO-ECONOMICALLY or otherwise. It's not my 1%, it's the stats and facts that have been determined factually to identify these so called "whole pictures and in context" items. The nuances as you stated are always spoken about in the "near future and next time" terms.

If your based in "black and white" there is not much we can talk about because I am based in nuances. I am a minority that's even smaller than your minority and the "near future and next time" as you say is called hope. Hope is very important to minorities my friend.

Andreas Wiehe I hear you and I do understand the "hope" that has been sold to black people specifically is without any true value. With that, hope in my opinion is what those with power use to keep those without power under control. So please forgive me if I do not share the same sentiments you have in regards to the idea of so-called "hope". I have seen that proverbial "brochure" for many years and there is never any TRUE culturally specific gains behind the illusion associated with said "hope". We do not live in a system where just, right, fair and righteous people of power reside. Therefore, the so-called progress or hope that is constantly being force fed to Black people as a group is without any real merit. I can not abide by the parameters of false hope.
