Super proud of this one--I haven't seen anyone talk about Marvel quite like this, most people get stuck in the same traps over and over. If you enjoyed please Like/Share/Comment. My Lost in Translation video got taken down for copyright unfortunately . . . bit bummed about that. Check out some of the other essays I've made that are still up lol

Great analysis brother. Definitely feels like the same thing that happened with Dragon Ball Super, just with an even BIGGER budget and more films. I especially loved your breakdown of the fight between Spiderman and the Green Gobin in the original Toby Maguire Spiderman. Like, it knows what it is, but it still TRIES yknow? The MCU, and by extension Dragon Ball Super don't even bother, and it gives you this whiff of "ah well they know the main character can't die anyways so who cares?" about all of the fights, and at the end of the day you watch some pretty visuals but are left empty by it.

Extremely well said man I really enjoyed that! Ive thought many of these things for a while now and its sad to see what alot of movies and franchises have become. It really sucks that all of these amazing filmmakers and writers out there dont have the chance to make their movies into these huge expensive productions that have so much potential. just because these giant corporations want to constantly play it safe by trying to appeal to everyone. Thats why at this point im really hoping they leave the darker characters alone like Ghost Rider or that disney doesnt fuckin buy image and ruin Spawn too...

Thoroughly enjoyed. I really struggle to become engrossed in movies without consequences, I think that's one of the reasons I didn't enjoy the recent star wars films (also Disney?).

I think a lot of this video is fair but I'm interested to see if you think all prequels also have no stakes. I suppose better call Saul comes to my mind as an example. We the audience know the entire time jimmy McGill cannot die cannot be hurt. And yet I'd argue the stakes are so clearly seen in how it effects and changes the character. I don't think the veil of the next big thing ever decreases the stakes for me because the character doesn't know the next Avengers is coming out just like jimmy doesn't know he'll be a side character in breaking bad 5 years down the line. Characters feel the stakes therefore I do. But maybe I see it differently then you. I do however can see the desensitization of violence and more specifically sex to play for all audiences. That is an issue I think could be changed with them not always trying to be so broad with everything even if I personally enjoy it and dont need that. There almost similar to fairy tales in a way where I think there's supposed to be morals behind the characters you learn And even a lesson. I love spider-man so much because no matter what story he's in or toy he's meant to sell, at the end of the day the character is there to show you how to be better and will carry his responsibility with his power and try to be the best he can be and maybe I think that's important especially in a time where so many real people are just shitty lol.

@@EricRossReel I get what you mean by thinking it's cold and calculated because it certainly is. It has to be to some extent if they want it work like it does. But I don't think the business side is so mutually exclusive on these movies. I think there's a lot of love that goes into them especially from people who understand the original comics and why people liked them in the first place. I think if it was so cold and so calculated the fans of the originals wouldn't of loved them so much. But maybe Im a little naive. I just think if so many people like or even love them it has to be for a good reason. We all know corporate suits don't make good movies look at how Spiderman 3 and the amazing spiderman ended because of the meddling from top execs. Sure they have a billiom dollar money printer. But I find it hard to believe there's no love that goes into these movies. Because usually the audience isn't so big for something that comes off so corporate. Maybe it's just the actors performances that give me this impression though. I just personally can't watch them and consider it phoned in or anything. They clearly put it all out there and I think that comes across but I also understand if it's hard to disconnect that from the corporate mouse house that runs the world.

@@EricRossReel I see what you mean and I suppose I don't particularly disagree. Full creative control could lead into some incredible things. But I still think they can get some pretty cool stuff done now even if sometime limited. But it could always be better. Again great video! Was a great watch even as someone who is a pretty big fan of the MCU it has an interesting perspective.

Heres the thing that one off films cant provide...long term investment. while i appreciate what is said, i also think its important to realize that the significance of these franchise characters hold in regard to the individual and wider culture. look at anime for example. ash ketchum and all of pokemon represent the defination of cash grab, yet ash's retirement has the globe holding their breath...this is the power of 2 hours of investment into a character vs 20 years of investment.

I remember when I noticed how biased the sex appeal in MCU was post Joss. It was the Thor Flick joke in the trailer. It became clear from the way the director talked about Chris to the humor of the scene that they would never do the exact same thing to a female, even though 20 years ago it would have been acceptable to have some "She's so hot, wacky things happen she's nude!" gag. Then I thought about CM. Brie is a clearly beautiful woman ... and she wears some padded, fake, future military rubber suit over her entire body that turns her featureless for the most part. Can't have females wear comics accurate outfits if they're tight, even though Peter can swing around in his skin tight body glove. Can't wait for The Marvels, where Monica (Legit one of my full fav comic characters. NEXTWAVE is GOAT for me) is prob gonna get the "Strong female character" outfit treatment.
