Marvel's Spider-Man PS4: The Heist Critique

Original plan for this video was to do all three DLCs at the same time after Silver Lining. I decided against that when I realised that an hour long video on DLC would take a long time, for a very small payoff. Few people will care about The Heist in December. I also apologise for the upload rate, but I've got a load of videos cooking at the same time. It'll be worth it. Thanks for your patience.

Whitelight just to let you know insomniac have confirmed that Peter may not have had “sex” with Black Cat, that before she went straight she made Peter think they had it but he isn’t sure because “he was in a coma after being saved by her and brought to her place” supposedly this is the night she went straight and left her costume(insomniac said this not me) so it’s a attempt to give fan service for those who read the comics of how Felicia may have had sex with Spider-Man however in the DLC it is not explicit on whether or not it happened so insomniac may have said they might not have had it to have fans interpretations be the only thing to go on. Personally I don’t think Peter would have sex with Felicia willingly especially at a young age, it is said they dated before MJ knew Peter’s identity which she has know for 6 years when he has been Spider-Man for 8 meaning when Peter and Felicia dated Peter was 15-16 years old, it wouldn’t make sense for Peter to do such a thing after losing his uncle and learning his lesson in responsibility. I hate that they do this and I hate how everyone is just so subjective on the subject(especially the son thing, if she had a son and explained to Peter that they didn’t have it(sex) but Peter still cares would be a good twist then what we got) I agree with your review on the Matter and how wishy, washy insomniac is being about the DLC

I found it a little predictable. By the 7th painting it wasn't just a theory, I had nailed it. They gave way too many hints so people wouldn't miss the twist. I still really liked it but I wish it was a little less transparent. Peter is one gullible bastard lol

@@indeed260 This is definitely an uninformed opinion. Sure there are plenty of games where you xan choose romance options. They're almost all RPGs with a focus on branching narrative pathways. This is an open world action adventure with a linear storyline. So yes, it would in fact, be difficult to program RPG social elements into a game that have none. They would have to start from scratch just so you could virtually bang Black Cat. Go play one of the many games that do focus on romance options if that's what you want because it doesn't belong in this one.

To clarify what I didn't like about the outfit; I think that it can be both armour and kevlar/leather but when individual pieces like that abdomen thing look like they could be either, it looks wrong to me.

You watched the video on how the creative team took inspiration from athletic wear with their design of the Advanced Suit right? Seems like they did something similar with Cat’s design, the breast plating has a distinct under armor vibe, and I’m guessing the rest of the armor is some kind Kevlar weaved leather that’s breathable enough for her to move the way she does. A tasteful redesign especially if you consider some of her other outfits in the comics.

He's like a dark Uncle Ben, his poor choices acting as Felicia's motivation to be a criminal. I feel your pain with this DLC. I'm more of an optimist and hoping on how all 3 DLC episodes will work in conjunction with one another. But how they couldn't just add on the extra content (screwball challenges, random Maggio crimes) to the main campaign endgame boggles me. I dream that by the end of DLC 3 they'll combine all of the extra content and throw it into the main campaign endgame. And hoping for an update to keep all faction crimes active too!

Honestly putting the Raimi suit in a DLC called "Silver Linings" would actually be somewhat clever. Also though people may think Insomniac can just willy nilly choose whichever suit they want that's sadly not the truth. Sony and partially Marvel Studios play a big part in the suit selection. This is one of the reasons why all 3 MCU suits were included and why some fan favorites (OG Iron Spider, Raimu suit, TASM1 suit, etc.) didn't come into play yet and/or why Insomniac didn't lose a word on them. But great review nontheless. Though I kinda hope Felicia does have a son which is why she said "misdirection" instead of lie and why she wanted it to look like she died. Y'know, to protect her son. But we'll see.

Whitelight, I don’t think it’s quite fair to criticize Insomniac for “not listening to feedback from the launch” with some of decisions in this DLC. IIRC, it was mostly developed after the game went gold but before it launched, so there was no feedback for them to listen to. It’s fine to criticize the features in their own right, but accusing Insomniac of “not listening” is very misleading to say the least.

you are right and wrong, you are right because Insomniac didn't had the time to change this DLC, as they do not have the time to correct anything in the subsequent DLC. especially since this DLC WASN'T made in 6 weeks... even ignoring the whole additional coding and the time the devs need to put into patches and bug fixes in 6 week they could have maybe developed A SINGLE MISSION... new scripted events, new animations, new models(Hi sculpt + Hi sculpt for wrinkles/low poly models + LODs, Texture, Materials+ PBR setting, Rigging+ weightpainting, Physical Rigging) the level design AND extensively TEST those new things added into the game (especially everything scripted as it can bug easily)... you are wrong because you think Insomniac CAN listent to feedback... sure they can do some little things here and there as updates or something, but the game structure is VERY WELL decided before the game releases and during development they have ALREADY started the development of ALL the DLC... if the additional content would exit 6 MONTHS after the game, then MAYBE they could have done a 3 hours story. and even there they should have used extensively the stuff already done in the original game.

Agree with you, but just wanna say that after you do 5 crimes in each district they do NOT disappear. I’ve 100% completed the game twice and the crimes still pop up for me.

not all the crimes disappear, just those of certain factions. I can confirm this because I also 100%ed the game and spent a lot of time running around trying to find the last secret photo, and it was all random thug crimes and sable crimes, no demons or prisoners or anything else

Black cat will probably be playable in the next or the last dlc, I can imagine making a new hero that’s completely different than Spider-Man ( a far less powerful/ fast character) would be a little tricky for insomniac to implement in the game, while still making her a fun character to play as If she does become playable it’ll probably be for specific arenas, but if insomniac really wants her to become a fully playable character throughout the main map then I can forgive them with how lackluster the first dlc was, which wasn’t that bad of a dlc for me, but I agree it was far less than what I wanted

5:25 to beat mini-gun brutes easily if you don't have 2 bars. 1. Hit them with an electric web, this will stan them and make them unable to move/counter you 2. Run up and do a simple ground combo that will knock the brute down 3. While hes on the ground shock him again with the electric web and do another ground combo and you'll knock him out

They could have really spiced up the art retrieval "missions" by having the senior Hardy have told a cellmate about his art and tracking method, who escaped, or just finished his sentence, who then recruited some friends and now you have a gang of crooks trying to get the paintings also. They could fight Spider-man at some, could be just leaving with another so he has to chase them down, and could have actually gotten some back to their hideout, which Spidey then has to track down and infiltrate. Add even more challenge by having Hardy's cellmate have also used his knowledge of the original Black Cat to find a batch of his old gear so now Spider-man gets to have a "bossfight" with Black Cat without fighting Felecia. Spice up the M.J. "mission" by having a rival reporter doing the same investigation. Maybe they get caught and are going being tortured for why they are there and M.J. has to rescue them , either through stealth and ingenuity or using her stun gun. Easy to make a reason for not being able to just call the cops. Cell phone gets damaged. No cell reception and no time to search. Make it underground . The Bomb squad missions could be better with a mad bomber character who taunts Spider-man at every turn, getting angrier and angrier as Spidey thwarts their plans, or more like Taskmaster, kind of enjoy just challenging our hero. Maybe they set up a bomb disposal race for Spidey. Maybe you end up with a boss fight with a deranged, bomb throwing lunatic. Throw in some hostages to rescue from the bombs here and there, or some high value targets( infrastructure like power substations , water mains, subway stations, or monuments) and its even better.

C this is what I've really been waiting for from Insomoniac; it was only a matter a of time before they kind of messed up spider man in the Heist DLC especially where Spidey and Cat team up to stealthily take down Hammerhead gangsters. Like you pointed out, where you cannot force Cat to take down your selected foe. Also, don't get me started on the Screwball challenges; they we're just as ridiculous and tedious as they were in main campaign. But I believe Insomoniac did that purposely to get a good laugh...well it didn't work.

I also think regarding the Black Cast twist: Overly Sarcastic Productions said you shouldn't make a twist if the story without the twist is more interesting. Black Cat actually going straight is more interesting than her being a villain - what made her do it? Will it last? Is she trying to build a better life for her son? Did what happened to her father inspire her to try and get out to protect her son?

White, love your in depth videos, but there has been 1 sticking point on both reviews that i cannot agree with for the life of both of us, the suits... Many suits are heavily tied to story, and even as it stands, there is a lot of story potential thrown out the window having many of the suits we already have. it is established that spidey has had already a bunch of adventures when the game begins, but still like both Spiderman 2099, or Scarlet Spider, the the infinity war iron spider... Like... they're cool and they probably boosted some sales... But suits like Superior Spiderman, Symbiote, Future Foundation and such... To any one that cares about what you said it is the best of the game, characters and their story... I think renders it pointless to sacrifice huge story potential just to have a fancy suit to wear considering we have plenty already... C´mon, everyone's using Spiderman Noir, he looks great, and has a pass as a selectable outfit, since even if it was part of a different universe, it is based on "past" events. Also, i hope they don't replace Peter in the next game, and you can play as both.. Because something tells me they wanna disable or kill Pete for the next game.. And as much as i love Miles, and this game did the little extra i needed to finally fall in love for him, and see him as an equal to Peter, still, we are Peter, it is great to have a friend like Miles, but... I'd still take Peter everytime... I hope Insomniac figures a way to make them both playable without pushing either one too much to the side.

The best way to deal with the chaingun brutes is actually to electrocute them and just beat on them with normal attacks until they go down. I liked them because in the base game I hardly ever used that gadget.

@@MinerDude369 I see. I do agree. It must be done properly. That was the difference between Marvel and DC. DC just made entire movies that set up for the next ones. Marvel on the other hand made singular and contained movies and only uses a small and short clip at the very end of the credits to set up the next one. This is why everyone got so pissed at DC before Wonderwoman and Aquaman. The entire JL and MoS:BvS felt like a 3 min clip content that was stretched to 1 hour

Well in regards to cleaning up the districts, isn't the point of being Spider-man is that you're saving the city? If you got everything done and there still were machine-gun firefights on the streets, that would kinda make anything you do feel pointless. At a certain point, 100% completion means * 100% * . Getting annoyed that you completed the video game is a strange argument to make... Even Breath of the Wild and Arkham City hit a certain point when all the activities are done, and there isn't much to do around the world. Yes, you could argue that there are still monsters to fight, but to what end? You've completed every mission, got every Korok seed, explored every corner; the story is done, you beat the game, congratulations. You can't expect a Minecraft-style generated world to spawn and make your playthrough infinite.

Actual good Play on cliche Twist they could've done: Black Cat has a kid, that she believes is Peter's, and betrays him to distance herself from something coming after her in New York. All character arcs would be preserved at the best points and it make her character actually seem reasonable. Not to mention if give a reasonable conclusion to her "killing herself" (would be nice if they left it more ambigious whether she lived or died instead of giving us clear remarks that she lived)

Would it be more interesting if Black Cat's motives for tricking Spidey into helping her screw Hammerhead and the Maggia over is because she knows what they were doing with her father? I wonder if they'll continue that plot thread in the sequel. Either way I love this Black Cat as she is just like I remembered from the Animated Series (Spectacular Spider-Man). Would love to get more of her and hopefully get the MJ treatment in the sequel as well. Heck it'd be better if we can play as her since her gameplay would most likely be more interesting than the MJ/Miles Stealth sections.

Bro imagine if you could do dual takedowns in the DLC, that would be so cool, a little inspiration from Arkham Knight, like Spider-Man grabs a thug, spins him around and throws him to Black Cat, she then grabs his face and slams it onto an object, maybe a table or the floor, I would've liked that but still this DLC was very fun; I wish there was another DLC for this game, like you can play as a younger inexperienced Peter Parker where you play as him when he first gets his powers and yes you experience Uncle Ben's death once again and have Flash bully you. I would've loved to see this as a DLC! Hopefully they add more suits to this game or even something better!

Removing the double tap to change between gadgets was a big downgrade in the Remastered edition. Apparently you can remap the gadgets to L1, but I was so used to using R1, that by the time I figured out I wanted to do that, and realised I couldn't unless I remapped it, so I didn't bother. Seems this problem was heard by insomniac, cos the web gadget selector is identical to the weapon selector in Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, and they do have a quick toggle between the last two weapons used.

Black cat lore is a little weird. Her dad was a regular thief who got caught when she was a kid and she grew up without parents I think. But as a teen during a party one of her friends got drunk and abused her and she killed him. And went a little crazy. It’s implied she had some serious mental health issues

Only problem I had with the dlc was that it was incredibly short, 2 hours for the story and 3 hours total to complete everything. Was really hoping to get at least a day of new content to keep myself occupied. Kinda disappointed when I ended beating everything in 3 hours and had nothing else to do.
