Marvel's Spider-Mid 2 REVIEW - Far From Peak

In this episode with the Comic Lads, we give our full in depth review / discussion, on Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (PS5).
This game did a lot of things great, like the inclusion of the web wings mechanics, and some pretty interesting story choices that took the Venom lore from the last 40 years and condensed it in a well executed manner.
The lack of side missions + post story content, is a massive disappointment however.

They did our Sinister Six members dirty. Insomniac improved boss fights but at the same time, wiped out potentially awesome side mission bosses offscreen.

Spent more time concocting missions that ended up being wiped out in the other regional versions of the game. Talk about misplaced priorities.

I genuinely wish they'd add open world bossfights. It doesn't need to be any of the big bads but imagine running into Rhino or Electro in the open world and getting to beat down

I think it would have been cool if they added all the symbiotes. So after the scream boss, it adds new bases called "symbiote bastions". You go to the symbiote bastions snd they behave like symbiote nests but with multiple waves, you blow up one heart to save a chunk of the building, then another, then another. Then on the final heart, a side symbiote leader jumps in before you place the sonic bomb, So like one bastion will have riot as the boss and maybe a few of the normal symbiote enemy types. Then the next bastion you go to has lasher and maybe 2 symbiote brutes etc. All the bosses would have there own move sets and abilities, to add variety not all bastions would spawn immediately, some stronger symbiotes bosses like riot would only spawn after you get anti-venom. And all these bastions would be required to be done first before your able to finish the final mission. Like venom bodyguards lol😂😂😂, plus this would make the end of the game feel longer and less rushed. Plus it completely fixes the weird issue of how do symbiote nests exist after the main story when you destroy the meteor??? So being required to do these bastions before the ending would feel special and slow things down for the people who rushed through the story this far. And each of these bastions reward you with a suit in there colors, not the same style, some would have a bit of tentacles sticking up or spikes to add more detail to the suits, Maybe more aggressive looking eyes. And each one will have a bit of backstory in the bastions like notes or belongings and before facing the boss, you use the same png as used in the chameleon mission where it tells you who is in the boss battle symbiote. Like what Characters, some comic book readers would go nuts over that if the comic accurate characters were in the suits😂😂😂😂

they had too it was a requirement to do so Because he lost so much in the first game so it felt as if he needed to be nerfed to really show he effects of dealing with that grief it's messing him up mentally and he's not able to perform as good rn

@@Arceedits and he's not weak matter fact he's not even nerfed bc if he was nerfed he wouldn't be able to take all those hits from the different villains he was fighting if he was quote weaker he's literally holding more than the first game because now with the help of miles he doesn't need to use his full strength when him and miles can both help each other instead of peter having to power his way through stuff take the sandman mission for example Peter gets thrown around more than usually that's because Peter States that he's never seen sandman this powerful with his abilities assuming this is the first time he's fought a big sandman

With the agenga that every game development team had to follow unless they want there company to get shut down, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a permanent break. I mean the director or manager had an interview with IGN and said he told his team to cut everything that gets in the way of his MJ missions being added so we can kinda see where there state of mind is

I personally understand why Peter told harry that they need to destroy the symbiote. He JUST broke free from it after getting a lot of people hurt (somehow no deaths tho?) so Peter was FREAKED and torn. didn’t want to give Harry a bloodlusted alien that just tried to use HIS body to do the same thing. That’s why it’s so hard in Peter, the only thing that can save Harry’s life will mutate him into a monster.

What they did with venom is weird since they made him just become an alien who wants world domination instead of revenge and is just taking over his hosts instead of trying to bond with them. Like why does harry go from wanting to heal the world with the symbiote to wanting pete to kill him or is literally fighting against the symbiote for control when venom works so much better when theyre working together. Eddie brock is also hates spiderman and tje symbiote is attracted to him bc of the hatred bc theyre the same. Then they become venom the symbiote and harry are so different in this game and we dont have venoms motivation for why he wants to turn everyone into symbiotes. Maybe he wants what its host wants but that isnt true either since hes actively taking control of harry and forcing him to fight. And even if venom just does what its host wants they dont elaborate on it and explain thats what its doing. Its just a big puzzle

At the beginning of the game we see Peter being overwhelmed and him having a flashback about aunt may and balance. He feels bad for beating up sandman and simply looking at him as another problem. This also costs him his job, simultaneously failing as peter parker and spider-man. He lets Cassidy get away. He almost kills kraven, Mary Jane, and a host of other people in the symbiote. Loses Harry, again. All this, and he had still been trying to cope with May's passing to top it off. Him taking a break to fix May's house, get a job, and work on him and MJ, doesn't mean he's giving up on being spider-man and it doesn't mean they'll kill him off. Even IF miles were become the more central protag and we get silk? We could just as easily have certain points where we also play as peter. He got the majority of focus in this sequel anyway. Peter could still offer advice over the phone and be seen outside the tights doing normal things. Maybe looking into crimes as a civilian, like the hammerhead dlc from the first game? Goblin could enter the equation and take miles out of commission, forcing peter to suit up take over? I'd personally be down to see insomniac do a good take or maximum carnage. I doubt they're discontinuing Pete though. Hell Otto may try and pull a superior spider-man? He clearly has something brewing.

pretty sure peter taking a break isn’t permanent. like a break to just gets his life in order before coming back. but i think the idea of slowly moving the mantle even tho he’s kinda young is interesting.

The map is definitely incomplete. Even in the main city there's a lot of areas that the lighting isn't finished somehow.

Spiderman 2 miles above the first the first story didn't seem to flow as nice just my opinion but I just recently replaced the first and am about half way through the second and the second is much more enjoyable

I agree with almost everything in this review. You guys hit the nail on the head. And its a shame it doesn't have more views, because this game is very good but very flawed and unfortunately, you dont see many of these criticisms anywhere else, and I've seen the say insomniac handles certain criticisms, so it makes me think they'regonna do the same shit with the next game. This game is ultimately a letdown in alot of aspects and I know insomniac is capable of doing better. This was my most anticipated game since the first one too so it hurts

Gonna be brutal but this game is weaker than the first spider man game. Story wise they should have cut miles away as a playable character thus cutting out his story segments and focusing more on Peter's story because the story is so mishandled trying to balance out miles and Peter when they're could've just focused on peter. Gameplay its good but this should have been a spiritual successor to WOS. For me its a 8 but the more I think about it the worser it gets.

I hate this game SO MUCH and I didn't even play it. Just from a story perspective. Not to self promote AT ALL but I did a video talking about some of the problems you had with nerfing Peter and disrespecting the Sinister 6 and all that. Will just say that it is very refreshing to hear very honest and unbiased opinions on a thing that not many people wanted to be honest about or were afraid to say.

Marvel's Spider Man 2 is peak. Why? Because Insomniac never disappoints and they are confident and passionate about it. They really meant it when they said Marvel's Spider Man 2 is the best game they have made before it released as it got 91 on Metacritic.
