Nicely played by Dera, fun to see both hands and how strong Scorpion and Master Mold were in this matchup. In normal Snap the best you can do is guess at what those cards are doing, so this presented a rare opportunity to really see how they screw over the opponent. I'm still a little flummoxed by Dera's Shang Chi-right-but-lose-the-breaker loss to Speci (tho Dera won that match), so it's hard to feel like he really looked like a grand champion, but the guy really is a great Snap player and his Snap/retreat decisions were dead on, completely unimpeachable. For Jeff, he ran into a deck tech'd to beat his bounce and also his luck ran out. (He's probably the best Snap player out there, but he's not QUITE as dominant as he looked in the upper bracket -- his nearly flawless run had most the high-leverage 50/50's go his way.) Fun tourney, just fix the little technical issues (how many times did the casters get tricked by the invisible final cube?) and re-work the display so we can see both players' plays. Good job all around.

The Shang Chi right side was a clear just miscalculation on my part as the casters even missed it. I knew wong would come over with the arnim play, I was calculating all the other possibilities on top of an arnim play and wanted to cover my bases, but in the mix of all the calculations missed the fact that my 7 wouldn't be bigger than his 7. My one big misplay of the lower bracket, hard to not make any.
@giantermite7039 Жыл бұрын
@@derajn Ha, yeah, my comment was a bit harsh. I mean, going a dozen or so games and limiting myself to just one misplay like that would probably be a personal best, so what the hell am I criticizing. You built a great deck, played it well, snapped/retreated perfectly (and I don't mean based on outcome, I mean based on what you knew at the time). A really great performance. It's just I was one of the handful of people yelling "no! 7 only ties!" at my screen like an idiot, and you were definitely who I wanted to come through the lower bracket, so that miss stuck with me. Think Jeff really misplayed at 33:52 playing scorpion over goose on turn 2. If he played goose on 2 then stormed the remaining location on 3, Dera would be able to play exactly 1 4 energy card and no others which should be a really winning position for Jeff. By playing scorpion and delaying goose and storm by 1 turn you let the opponent play a sera, allowing to once again play 4 energy cards into sinister London (via the cost reduction from sera). Overall pretty well played and fun to watch though, just wanted to point this out as I think Jeff should have been really favoured seeing sinister London, goose and storm in the opener.

@RemedieX Жыл бұрын
Don't underestimate Jeff, though. Dera's deck counters Jeff's bounce pretty well. Scorpion essentially was a 2/9 in one of the games with all the stats it took away, while master mold clogs his hand up, preventing bounce and draw, he also has Killmonger, and finally, Shang punishes Bishop and Angela if they get too big. It really is a rough matchup. I don't see how Jeff could win with that deck here against another pro. In a situation with two pros of similar skill levels, the better matchup wins. It's why switching decks somehow should eventually be a thing.
@LOKITYZ Жыл бұрын
I don't think so. A lot of luck was involved. Both are on a similar level. Both made optimal plays with the cards they had. The locations and draws went Dera's way in the second match. In the first match, despite having a deck that's completely countered by his opponent, Jeff did relatively well. The room for level gap in a game like Marvel Snap isn't that high. This isn't chess. I think Jeff's biggest missteps were in his aggressive Snapping and overall cube management. Should've played it more safe.

Since these are pre-recorded and not played live with players on both sides recording their views then it should be easy to get all of the matches done over one weekend. Before anyone says but it is not fair, stop and think one thing, do you think every single person that enters and plays in a Pokemon TCG or Yu-Gi-Oh tournament are professionals. No, most of them are regular people that have to take time out of their schedule to fully commit to come out to a venue and play in the tournament. Playing competitive Marvel Snap should not be any different. The correct way to pronounce "Hoogland" (at least the way that Jeff prefers it) is H-OH-gland, not H-OO-gland. Not sure where you got your information from, but it sure wasn't from the horse's mouth.

Did Dera just build a counter deck during the multiple week hiatus in this tournament? If this is the case then I'm very disappointed in the professionalism of how this was run.

Uh? Everyone got to change. It wasn’t just one person. The professionalism is just fine. This comment is dumb.
@madthinker7777 Жыл бұрын
@@juliotorres3147 why was there a hiatus? Would Jeff have won if Dera was forced to play his original decks as planned?
@sillykyle17 Жыл бұрын
Totally agree they should have had the whole thing on one patch, but Dera's win was perfectly legitimate because all the players had the option to switch decks.
@madthinker7777 Жыл бұрын
@@sillykyle17 that's fair. Jeff could have did a 180 and surprised Dera. Would have liked to see it play out as planned, is all

I felt like I got the lowest end of the stick with the deck resubmission, I purposefully put my stronger deck in the lower bracket as a strategy and never got to play it. I resubmitted a deck that I thought in the post-patch meta would hold up well against what most people were likely to bring. (wave/she-hulk, sandman, and shuri). I think I wouldve had an even greater chance of winning out if I got to go up against Jeff and the others with the undisputed best deck in the game pre-patch (which is what I had brought - Thanos Lockjaw)
