This game was released back in 1995, at the time of this game spider-man has been married to mj since the 80s and in the comics at the time peter also had a baby on the way. Capcom spidey was just regular 616 spider-man from the 90s the same way neversoft's spider-man was just regular 616 spider-man from 2000

The character roster in these old games always makes me laugh, compared to the popular heroes now. 3/10 of the characters being Shuma Gorath, Blackheart and Psylocke is crazy.

Capcom is actually CULTURED in Marvel. They’re massive fans, so for these old games they picked the coolest most badass characters in their own minds, including some lesser known underdogs that are often times even cooler than the main marvel heroes. That’s the the thing about the MVC series. It’s not just the mainstream characters they bring in. They usually choose badass obscure characters too. (With the exception of infinite, so many trash character picks for that game.)

Limitations at the time. I bet if CAPCOM waited a few months to release this game on Saturn it would’ve been close to the arcade thanks to the 4 MB RAM cart.
