Fun fact about Robert Bruce Banner: Stan Lee had a difficult time remembering the names of all of the characters he was writing, and so he gave them alliterative names (eg Peter Parker, Stephen Strange, Matt Murdoch, Reed Richards, etc) under the assumption that it would be easier to remember the character names that way. I put a lot of thought into this "barrier to entry" issue and I thought of something that might help. You know how some of the best books don't explain EVERYTHING to you up front, and the characters seem to have actually had a life before you met them in the pages of the book? Try to approach comics like that. The character had a life (and with it, adventures) before you met them. When ever they mention something that happened in their past, just roll with it... You will get the gist of it over time... and if it seems like a REALLY interesting story... Go read it! Unlike the book example those stories already exist, and you don't have to wait for a prequel. Alternatively: If a character interests you. Read their wiki pages, and then jump into their comics with what ever the most recent beginning to a new arch is.
@brunof19963 жыл бұрын
Yeah... but the book give the information in the best order posible, and you don't start a book from the middle, finding were start is the problem in comics.
@discodecepticon3 жыл бұрын
@@brunof1996 I can agree with that. but on the other hand, comic characters are (for the most part) unchanging. Once you have the basic concept of their archetype you're mostly good. Look at it this way. Almost no one has read all of even one characters comics (Unless its a relatively new character). We all started somewhere and just picked up the missing info over time (And not even from reading the older comics). As an example, I started reading SpiderMan in 97, stopped in 04 started again in 16, and stopped in 19. but I know who Mary Jane is, I know what happened to Stacy. I know that Doc Ock took over Peters body... I don't know HOW Peter came back, but I have got the gist just by reading the later comics. I don't know what is happening know, but I will figure it out over time once I start reading SpiderMan again. Even when I read comics religiously in my teens I never read every issue of every arc of almost any character. For where to start. Pick an arch that interests you (Based on tittle or synopsis) and buy the first issue of that arc. Then go back and read old arcs IF you want. (I intend on reading the Superior SpiderMan and Spiderverse arcs at some point, but I'll probably read SV first even though it came out later...SV just interests me more)

@sourwitch23403 жыл бұрын
For me, the problem is that a book will hint that someone was married and is now divorced, by showing them pawn off their marriage ring at the start of a scene. A superhero comic will hint that they were married to a hologram, while the person they were in love with was actually turnt into a lizard and traded to the hero's archnemesis, by having the character start crying when they see a gecko and their friend clapping their shoulder saying "We'll make that bastard pay", to then never address it again in that issue whatsoever. What I'm saying is, to be clear, that the comment above is absolutely right. But you also need to understand that if you don't get it, that's probably because it often wasn't written with an audience who lacks context in mind, unlike a book (unless that book too is not the first in its series), so if you continue onward, you might get a clearer picture of what's happening, or you might not, but if the writing's good you should get an idea of what they're going through, even if you have no clue what caused it and it's possibly unfathomably unusual. Don't let that discourage you, the nonsense is part of the beauty, and you still can follow their emotional journey.

Um, actually.... for the final question - the wording of the question seems to imply that taking KI at the recommended levels was a treatment for radiation exposure when it is actually preventative. You need to have the KI in your body when you are exposed to protect you, or ingest it immediately (within minutes if possible) post-exposure. Taking KI after exposure doesn't protect you, as your thyroid has already received the dose of radiation and will have absorbed any radioactive iodine that was present. Once you are no longer being exposed to radiation, the KI will not protect you. The KI just "fills" the capacity of your thyroid for absorbing any form of iodine, so protects against active radiation events. People need to IMMEDIATELY leave the area if there is a nuclear accident. Sources - Me, nuclear reactor operator for 8 years, and CDC website.
@sternis13 жыл бұрын
Great to have that clarified! I do remember something about this from the Fukushima distaster, that you give people non-radioactive Iodine pills to avoid their bodies taking up radioactive isotopes of Iodine in case they would be exposed the radiation.
@iamjeramy3 жыл бұрын
@@sternis1 I remember I was driving down the west coast for a big move and my sister kept calling me with updates about Fukushima, I kept telling her it should be fine, they have ways to keep the reactors cooled even without power. Then she told me they lost their water supply, and I told her, it should be ok, they have backups - you know it is a real problem if they start talking about elevated levels of hydrogen, because that means they are no longer able to cool the reactors. Sure enough, she called and said hydrogen levels were going up, and that is when I said this is a big deal and they could end up having explosions that will breach containment and release radioactive products into the atmosphere. I was hoping they were evacuating the area as fast as possible. Shortly after that was the first of many hydrogen explosions and breaches in containment. This was the by far the worst disaster in a long, long time. Nuclear power is still by far the safest and most efficient overall power generation process we have, but it can be scary when the worst-case scenarios come to pass.

Everyone already dogpiled on the War Machine answer, but I just wanna say that Markeia's answer doesn't really make sense. They died. They were dead. They were killed by the Snap. They could all be brought back because they were all killed by a single thing. The others died in separate incidents, which is why they couldn't return, not because their deaths were somehow more permanent.

Thanos always talks about erasing them from existence, not killing them. I think that's what she was going for.
@thaneofstuff73403 жыл бұрын
I will also say, it would probably be pretty stressful to think about undoing the initial snap and bringing back individuals that Thanos killed outside of it, such as Vision or Loki, but Natasha and Gamora were very specifically different deaths since they died for the Soul Stone, and Bruce did try to bring Natasha back since he knew her so well but he was unable to do so.

Um actually, vibranium does not win against adamantium. Adamantium is virtually indestructible, while vibranium can only take so much before it is destroyed. While vibranium can absorb things like kinetic energy, it can only absorb so much, before breaking down. Adamantium can cut through anything, given how strong the one using it is. So if someone as strong as Odin used an adamantium sword, it would take him a few strikes, but he would be able to cut through it. The only time vibranium has an advantage, is when it is the Antarctic Vibranium, as that has a reverse function compared to regular/Wakandan Vibranium, where it gives off vibrations that can melt any metal.

I loved the moment when the contestants took a moment to freely discuss how daunting comics can be as a medium. As someone who reads primarily X-Men titles, I see this from both perspectives. Because there is a lot of history and large amount of titles within the one IP, even self-contained arcs can feel like there is a lot going on, and more characters than a new reader can easily keep track of. But then when I venture into the other realms of Marvel, I suddenly feel like I've gone from being the expert to being the clueless dumb dumb because I chose to specialize and know the bare minimum or less about some other franchises in the same fictional universe.
@nakenmil3 жыл бұрын
This is something kinda weird or specific to American superhero comic books, I think. A lot of other comics in Europe or Asia don't necessarily run the same characters for eternity in semi-constant retcons or reboots that still echo each other. It's interesting that we've kinda come to see it as default for "comics" in general.

Um actually, the ones who were dusted didn't get to kill thanos at the beginning so they would have technically still have been waiting to do so ever since they were dusted, also in the comics it is explained that being dusted is not death, but being wiped from existence, the difference being is that being wiped from existence funnily enough is much easier for mortals to reverse, if they find what erased and reverse the process, death in marvel can only be reversed by mistress death, and she barely ever reverses it.

The Marvel focus for this episode made it one of the best yet (arguably THE best of the series). More franchise-focused episodes would be great (DC, Star Wars, Doctor Who, maybe something fairly specific like table-top RPGs, etc...). Granted, some viewers would skip them entirely, but while I don't watch every episode, I made sure to watch this one because of the theme. The contestants would need to be carefully chosen for this. For example, if the theme was table-top RPGs and Matt Mercer was a player it wouldn't be very fair (although you could just focus on less common systems, like Mutants & Masterminds, Paranoia, one of the Star Wars systems, etc... and end up with a more even game).
