Awesome tutorial! Learned so much in such a short time. Is there a way to mirror one half of a pattern? E.g. the front panel of a t-shirt. Then you could do just half of the shape (less work) and a more symmetrically accurate design. I tried to do it but I had to stitch the two halves together, so I had a seam running down the middle of my shirt.
@veryveig3 жыл бұрын
Yeah Great question, I probably should've shown that method when I was initially creating the torso lol. There's 2 ways to do it: We can either select the edge from where we want to mirror it in edit pattern mode and then select the "unfold symmetric editing" option. Or We can simply right click instead of left click when creating points in polygon mode, a dialog box will then appear from which we can enable the option "Mirror Creation" and choose our mirror plane ;))

Thanks for this nice easy to follow tutorial. I have a question, at 3:00 when you stitch the back and the front. When I do the exact same moves like you did in that part ( copy paste-->move sideways stc...) I got normals flipped in the 3D view for obvious reasons. Why don't you have normals flipped in the video? Thanks! :)
@veryveig2 жыл бұрын
No worries! So that is because my display mode was set to 'Thick Textured surface' mode which doesn't show the normals like the regular 'Textured Surface' mode. I usually do my normals cleanup in blender later on in the process but probably should've flipped them once I copied them anyway

6:30 Whenever I try to make the pockets, upon "cut & sew", the edges of the colored fabric become rigid, but the lines from vertices themselves remain the same as before. As opposed to yours looking clean and following the lines like how you cut it. Any reason for this that anyone knows? Also thanks for the vids they're very helpful! Edit: Found out it was because of particle distance. Setting it from triangles to quads gives more geometry and helps it a bit, but for some reason (on my 1700 mm model) I had to decrease it to somewhere around 3 mm distance to smooth out the pockets. I don't know if this is something that only needs to be adjusted for the final render or what, I'm too new. However I'm troubleshooting with different models and such to see if I can fix it.

Life saving tutorial right there! I just wanna ask what's the best way of exporting an Avatar from Mixamo to Marvelous Designer and finally to Blender, as Mixamo doesn't support Alembic avatar files. Should we import the avatars as fbx files from mixamo and import into MD and finally export the avatar as Alembic file from MD?

Thanks for the great tutorial. How do you get the prints as separate material slot or blender? When I follow your steps, mine always end being baked into the fabric texture, meaning I cannot assign a separate shader just to the print for example like you do in part 3. Thanks!

it sounds like you might be UVbaking when you export? make sure the "Unified UV Co-ordinates" box is unchecked when you export to blender and let me know if that helps

@veryveig3 жыл бұрын
It's definitely possible and I've seen some pretty great results with Houdini... but for me I just think the UI of marvelous designer in combination with the various 2D/3D modes it has makes it a lot easier to create things i.e. you don't have to worry about creating perfect meshes from scratch you just draw the shape of the pattern you want and MD does it all for you :))
