The sad thing about jimmy he was just almost as good as his brother and could’ve been a great lawyer but he destroyed him morally and emotionally.

I dont think so. I always think about that scene in that movie where Ben Affleck and Samuel L. Jackson keep trying to kill each other over a briefcase. Ben Affleck takes some rookie to his office. He asks him that basically. To write down all the stuff he hopes to change or accomplish. Then after a year as a lawyer, watch how disillusioned hes gonna become.

It puzzles me as well. He had everything for successful law career, yes, there is always something in this life that is not possible to get. In his case it is Chuck’s approval, so what?! Just living an independent life, looking for other opportunities would be the best option for Jimmy. He would’ve reached much more going this way and, after time, his hard work would’ve brought results 100%. His obsession with HHM and Chuck definitely took a toll on him, but I wouldn’t say that he was pushed on his conman road. He had plenty of different options but always chose this.

And that's where a lot of Chuck's high-mindedness comes from. He see's himself as the uber moral "officer of the court, and thinks Jimmy's "not a real lawyer" (i.e. not the same as Chuck) b/c Jimmy has a dicey past and didn't get his law degree like Chuck did. Chuck sees Jimmy as going through the back door/being dishonest. He won't let his brother evolve into a better person, which forces Jimmy's hand back to criminal tactics to get what he needs. But Chuck himself isn't above skullduggery, either. He can put his words to work to affect an outcome in his favor, too, but he see's himself as different from his brother b/c he's always been on the "right side" of the law.

Chuck had a inferiority complex. I still don’t know if his fake allergy to electricity came from Chronic OCD or just in his imagination due to stress. But not only did he resented Jimmy but he truly believe that criminals don’t change. When Jimmy became a lawyer, Chuck became even more hateful toward him because he believe that a recipe for disaster. Which at the end, he was right. Finally, as for Chuck actually loving his brother or not we’ll probably never know. Chuck is just that much of a complex character.
@blueberry62742 жыл бұрын
In my opinion that inferiority complex led Jimmy to his Saul form. Chuck constantly showed his envy, contempt and aggression everywhere in conversations. I think his passive aggression was the worst and ALSO the most influential circumstance for happening of that hypothetical disaster and Jimmy's partial rollback to the Slippin' version of himself. Chuck behaved himself as if it already happened, as if Jimmy can't change and because of THAT He hasn't changed. Jimmy wanted approval, support but he wasn't able to get anything except contempt and disbelief in him. That's what turned him into the exact opposite of who Chuck so strongly wanted Jimmy to become. He thought of him as a failure and Jimmy became a failure, thoughts are material, lol

Chuck resented Jimmy because he getting a lot of attention and is charismatic than him. Not to mention also that he won’t be a good lawyer due to him being a former criminal. Superiority Complex is when he or she has the mentality they’re better than everyone else, so close to a Narcissist. Throughout the show, Chuck never said he was better than anyone, never show he was arrogant, and never put people under the bus except for Jimmy and Kim. But it was shown he was quite a hypocrite. Chuck was only shown to be an asshole toward Jimmy (due to resentment as well as believing he won’t be a good lawyer because of his criminal past and truly believe criminals won’t change), Kim (because she is friend/girlfriend of Jimmy and help him), and Ernesto (due to telling Kim what Chuck is planning). He see anyone helping or friending Jimmy as enemies. Chuck warned Kim that Jimmy will hurt/ruined her life at the end but she didn’t listen and he was right. When the Bar didn’t believe Chuck that Jimmy was a bad guy, he snapped. Lastly, Howard even said that his vindictive behavior toward Jimmy won’t be good for HMM. After watching for the second time, I’ve noticed how Chuck is so desperate to only see Jimmy as the scheming manipulative con man, that he can’t see that *HE’S* also a scheming manipulative con man too, but he’s privileged enough to be able to use legal means to do it. Jimmy may be able to physically steal from people and con people out of the contents of their wallet, but Chuck has stolen people’s large clients and cases, which does literally take money from them (people who arguably need it more than he does), and he schemed against Jimmy in an attempt to have him disbarred. 26:23 Not sure I agree, because if Chuck relied solely on his intellect he wouldn't let his resentment take control of his relationship with Jimmy. He would understand that he should be mad at his parents, if he is so inclined, but definitely not at his brother who has always looked up to him and craved his approval. Chuck is being jerked around by his misplaced emotions. Unless he deliberately _chooses_ to make Jimmy a scapegoat, in which case, he is actually evil. I'm not sure if this is the case though. It does seem like misplaced blame is more likely -- I mean, Chuck resists self-reflection to the point of developing "electromagnetic sensitivity"... A true man of intellect wouldn't allow this to happen, would he? Thanks for making this video btw! Very interesting to think about Chuck in greater detail.

EHS is emphatically not a real thing, and the show gives a very solid demonstration that Charles is suffering from agoraphobia, a REAL mental illness. At the time BCS is set, agoraphobia was a subfeature of panic disorder but the DSM-5 made it a separate diagnosis. Every single symptom of Charles' "EHS" corresponds perfectly with agoraphobia, right down to the not getting reactions to things that he is not aware of. Charles also shows signs, inconclusive amounts of them, of Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Everything he does to Jimmy is about bringing Jimmy down so Charles can feel better about himself, feel "superior".

Its astonishing how polarizing the question is, whose guilt the development was. You see comments like "Look how Chuck was right with everything he said" to comments like that one, that paints Chuck as a complete psychopath. I wonder about it, because the show presents us enough hints that we will never get the full truth and its clear that its something in between the extreme positions. This video completely misses the point that Chuck's feeling for Jimmy are ambivalent. You see Chuck putting a pillow under the head of his exahusted brother and cover him with a blanket when he fell asleep. You have several moments, which show that Chuck cares for his brother (the last scene in season 6, e.g.) and the negative feelings referred to in this video are only one side of the story. Do you think its a coincidence that the scene in the tent is shown before and that Chuck looses control completely after he said his last words to his brother? Both of the McGills are difficult characters with a dark side. As different as they are, there are things they have incommon. They manipulate and abuse other people beyond limits and cannot deal with their emotions especially guilt, which brings them down further and further.

Since batteries are direct current. The AC makes the skin effect and has the frequency and electromagnetism. DC was safer for him because it didn't really have all that in it's current. Batteries less a threat to Chuck's health than an alternator or anything using 120 volts or any other in houses and stuff.

I was always curious about the reason(s) Chuck and Rebecca split up. It appears that they just didn't have all that much in common, but if so, then what made them get together in the first place? This relationship is just about the only thing that makes me somewhat sympathetic towards Chuck. During the dinner scene in the flashback I felt bad for him when she chose to ignore his 'signal'. Your partner is supposed to have your back when it comes to other people. We get very little background on her, but from this limited information, she didn't appear to be loyal to Chuck even when things were good between them. Which is different from Cheryl/Howard latte fiasco because their marriage was undergoing heavy maintenance at that point -- while Chuck & Rebecca were supposedly doing fine and sleeping in the same bed.

She didn't "choose" to ignore his signal. She got caught up in Jimmy's winning personality, and was having a genuinely good time with him, so much so that she didn't track Chuck. This is one of the things Chuck hated about Jimmy- no matter that he was so inferior to Chuck in so many ways, he still could be the life of the party and could get people to gravitate towards him in a way Chuck never could. This is not to say that Chuck is a zero- he clearly isn't. I'd bet that what attracted her to him in the first place was that he was brilliant, highly respected and regarded, and accomplished. Al Capone lived there with his buddies. Lorraine Blah blah corrupt Mayor, Sopranos references her when she gets killed by Billy Batts in the Sopranos. Why chasing her around naked slapping her with a towel and killing her ehen she's alive and well...Town got turned out made predominantly Hispanic, back then at least when lived there. Svengouli, Richard Koz portrayed in Chicago on Fox 32 and Channel 26, referenced Brewyn which is right next to Cicero. He entertained kids and showed old B flicks late at night. Beloved. Which both towns were wild racists back when l lived in that area, how privileged these younger generations are to enjoy the even feigned security of walking through with no fear of attack. Lindenberg was in support of Nazi occupation along with Ford. And Loeb and Leopold were lovers and murderers. It would make more sense that Kim would go to jail and be murdered. She's the ring leader. No one in Chicago remembers their lawyer's legacy. They went to prison! He didn't get them off. There's no Chicago sunroof, no one is that tacky. Had Jimmy stayed in Chicago he'd be as successful as JG Wentworth. Or became the Mayor, or Governor. Cartel was more organized up there before the Flores Twins "ruined" it all and exposed the network. They work with the "Mob" back when l lived in the area. And they were in positions of power throughout that area. I had never felt, feared, or even thought they were still in existence. I lived in a area rich with Mob ties. However, living in a beautifully predominantly Hispanic town with a roommate. I was surprised, scared, and aware of their presence. They weren't at all terrorizing or rude. It was nevertheless scary.

It would be remiss to note that Kim is the second catalyst for Saul Goodman's creation and could still have still prevented it herself if she had acted differently, as well.
@saimayousuf2 жыл бұрын
You mean because she never interfered or tried to talk him out of working with the cartel in any serious manner?
@droberts15932 жыл бұрын
@@saimayousuf Well, that was one aspect, but more generally, the erosion of the role of moral compass that she played for Jimmy. Jimmy had his scamming tendencies, but he always tried to make Kim happy and he would have made more of an effort to do so if she tried to keep him on the straight and narrow. I was also thinking of how if she hasn't fallen down the scamming addiction rabbit hole, at which point she was playing along and actively making suggestions to craft Saul's image (which he later adapted), Finally, her leaving him after the death of Howard was the final straw in the creation of the full Saul Goodman of Breaking Bad. If she hadn't come to the (mistaken, imho) conclusion that they were 'bad for each other' and stuck it out together, I don't think we would have seen the Saul Goodman we knew from BB, as he had no moral compass at all at that point and only lived for 'the game'.

@@droberts1593 I agree. As you aptly put it, “if she hadn’t fallen down the scamming addiction rabbit hole” and stayed the stoic moral compass she had originally been, Jimmy would have stayed Jimmy. But from that screeching U-turn to leave her amazing opportunity as a nationally known lawyer, in order to go tear down Howard ruthlessly - we could see that her moral compass had spun away from integrity to egoic satisfaction. Because together with Jimmy, they could get away with so much. Including ruining a man’s reputation and status in society which made them both feel so powerful. So invincible. (That scene with Saul screaming at Howard that his job offer was nothing compared to the life he lives, that he couldn’t come anywhere near the life he lives, he is a god or something to that effect). Each scam they pulled required more and more planning & juggling. The challenge had to be greater and greater in the scams to be pulled of in order to chase the highs - to keep up with their growing tolerance. But in the end, unlike Walter White, they realized their egos had taken over and the only way out (and to find peace) was through ending the charade. And telling the whole truth. Kim led the moral arc to redemption by confessing everything. Jimmy was found to get away with it again. But when he found out his moral compass was pointing to true north again, he had the inspiration to save himself again. If she hadn’t confessed, he would have served a few years (w good behavior) and have gone back to his old tricks. Her confession was an open door, and he peaked in to see that nothing he has ever swindled out of anyone could ever compare to this cleansing of his heart & soul. I hope he finds utmost peace in the coming years. Even though he will be behind bars, he is a feee man now.

@@saimayousuf Well said. It is important to note that they saved each other. If 'Gene' hadn't called and then thrown Kim's assertion that he confess back at her, she would have kept on living her own hollow existence. He spurred her on to her redemption, and in so doing, she inspired him to achieve his. In the end, I believe this shows how they can be 'good for each other' rather than 'bad for each other'. I love how poetic the writing in this show can be.

@@droberts1593 so poetic and beautiful. I have not seen such a deep love story ever told. It will stay with me and the profound lessons will be something I aspire to.

Chuck McGill was right about his brother. He was not responsible for creating Saul Goodman. He simply knew Jimmy and what type of person he was.

I know this is the age of millennials and blaming everyone else but yourself, but no one is responsible for creating Saul Goodman but himself. His brother is not "half" to blame.

So one is 20 years older than the other and that means they can't be brothers? That's ridiculous. My uncle is 20 years younger than his brother. Its baffling that you find it tough to believe siblings can be years apart in age.

Why is it that everyone always tries to show Jimmy as the Good Guy or it was not his fault. Here it was his brother's fault. Jimmy make the movies and the choices. Jimmy is the one that broke Chuck.

It’s an absolutely warranted hatred, always being perfect child but never receiving the love of their parents. The youngest child always getting away with everything is just so irritating and they never grow up
