Reiko is one of those characters who didn't make a big impact on release but had a lot of potential growth that didn't go anywhere. The comic series really highlighted the best aspects about him and showed what a real threat he can be, but since the comics have been retconned from continuity it just leaves a lot to be desired.

Reiko was originally meant to be Shao Kahn Reincarnated according to John Tobias original intention of the character,but was scrapped into just being a general of Kahn instead

In MK12 Reiko's universal moves could be Shuriken scatter, Vertical teleport, Flip kick and Quick spin forward/away. I've had the following variation ideas for Reiko: 1. Outworlder: Focuses on his mystical abilities 2. Assassin: Focuses on his Shurikens 3. War General: Focuses on his war club/hammer

In my head canon, Sindel was pregnant with Reiko when she committed suicide. That would explain Reiko's similarities with Shao Kahn and having similar colored hair to Sindel. It would also explain Reiko's affiliation with the Brotherhood of the Shadow.

Imo I rather prefer Reiko being a general who is perfectly comfortable in his given position rather than a Shao Kahn wannabe. Imagine him being so good at battle strategy and a perfect battle record, Shao Kahn promotes him as his general and he actually excels in it better than anyone else in Shao's company. Tbh it would be great character development if instead of taking Shao's throne, he instead is promoted to Kahn after Shao's defeat but turns it down since he's more comfortable as a general rather than Kahn.
