You hit on exactly what made this song so special. At the time, nobody was layering back up vocals the way Marvin was. He used 7 tracks to essentially harmonize with himself - (that's Marvin in every octive). If you ever have 40 minutes to kill, you should really listen to the entire I Want You album on the best headphones or speakers you have access to. As far as reactions, "After the Dance" was the other big single off the album and another masterpiece.

The painting "Sugar Shack" by Ernie Barnes at the intro was featured in TV series Good Times. They bought the painting to life with dancers while Marvin performed "I want you" on the Motown 25th Anniversary Show ! Check it out. You will know Marvin after these songs. I’ll never forget the day he left the earth. I was just a teenager. The whole world mourned the loss. So untimely when he had so much more to bless the world with. He was a prince and a master at what he did. Simply marvelous!🔥 🙏🏽

It warmed my heart that you picked up on it from the first few beats that this song is a baby making song for sure. Much respect go out to you for your comments about not correcting an older person when they comment that they don't make music like this any more. For the most part it is true. That music stands the test of time. If you don't believe me just listen to the commercials today and the songs they are they featuring in their commercials. That sound? Oh it was me dropping the mic.
