This song was released in 1971. It was written in 1970. 50 years and what has changed except the years? We are definitely headed backwards instead of progressing forward. Marvin was our prophet when he wrote this album about the turbulent times of that era. I wonder what he would say now? It's really so sad that this is prevalent 50 years later.

Look at this video closely. This is New York City in the 70s. What a mess. We made it back then through hard and honest work. Not regretting the status quo or questioning the entire system like protesters today. Looting and anarchy leads back in time.

Reasons why this is a 10/10 song. 1. 50 Years old and still sounds beautiful today. 2. 50 years later and the stuff said in this song is relevant even today. 3. Released on possibly the greatest soul album ever. 4. Sounds like an opening track in a tragic movie that takes place somewhere like Detroit. 5. Was sung by the one & only Marvin Gaye.

@JacquelineFox-xo6jn Marvin, in his own way was telling us we need God, and each other to change the world around us before we can face the rest of it. Stand together as one total force, and love one another. Clean up our neighborhoods, stop killing one another, respect one another. God made us to be Kings and Queens, not clowns, queers and hoes on the street. Once we get this, we will be ready to do what need to be done. I pray we still have a world to live in!!!!

This is life, raw, uncut, uncensored. This song has more truth in it, than anything any organization, talking head, politician or pundit, spews out for their own greedy self-interest... Marvin Gaye was a true poet, painting with words the harshness but also the beauty of our existence. No matter who you are and where you are from, there is something in this song for all of us!

I get shivers when I hear this. I heard this when I was12 years old. I love Marvin Gaye's music. Just ordered his greatest hits. cd. A gift for my birthday. I retired last year at 65 and 1/2 years old. I couldn't take my job anymore> I think they wanted me out. So I sold my home in Florida, and moved to a cheaper state, Arkansas. I love this state. Rolling Hills and Mini Mountains! I finally have a home paid for after 65 years of working! But I will have to go back to work to pay for my Healthcare. But life hits you the face, you look to the other side. I retired, and my life went crashing down. LIFE has away. But Jesus Christ is my Lord, what ever he wants for me>>> so be it. I'm Blessed I have a home. A vehicle. But stuff is so high. I hope President Trump changes our country to look like EUROPE! Or Japan. They have beautiful cities and country. Our Country should be the best in the world! For us ALL God Bless everyone!

My friend sent this song out to me today. And he reads the Vedas which are about 5,000 years old.. u read it right five thousand years. And you know what ? They tell us all about it. Translation Government men are always like carnivorous demons called Rākṣasas [man-eaters]. Sometimes these government men turn against the conditioned soul and take away all his accumulated wealth. Being bereft of his life’s reserved wealth, the conditioned soul loses all enthusiasm. Indeed, it is as though he loses his life. Purport The word rāja-kula-rakṣasā is very significant. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam was compiled about five thousand years ago, yet government men are referred to as Rākṣasas, or carnivorous demons. If government men are opposed to a person, that person will be bereft of all his riches, which he has accumulated with great care over a long period of time. Actually no one wants to pay income taxes - even government men themselves try to avoid these taxes - but at unfavorable times income taxes are exacted forcibly, and the taxpayers become very morose. Get it? vedabase.io Free reading here's the verse: vedabase.io/en/library/sb/5/14/16/ But the solutions are ALSO found. Seek ye the kingdom of Kṛṣṇa!

What’s sad is that the human race, as demanded by the elite few, has reverted to skin color, sex, & religion as requirements of one’s identity, after decades of outlawing such & being irrelevant to a person’s character. In 2024, Biden/globalist agenda is to dumb down & create conflict amongst the human race to control everyone. Worse than that, most people go along with it.🤬

TBTW not all of Marvin's are about love or "Sexual Healing" (which I love), have you not heard of Mercy, Mercy Me (The Ecology Song)? He also sings about poverty, racism, etc., not just "love", don't be so fucking naive. And anyone can make a video of any song & post it on KZbin.

I disagree. Remember this comes on the heels of inequity and white claimed superiority that Malcolm X, M.L.King, jr., Stokely Carmicheal et. al. as well as a whole group of people (those who were descendants of illegal commerce) who were screaming these very words (paraphrased) to their oppressors . Music though, indeed is a language of its own that traverses ethnicity, creed and kind...as well as the American born term--Race. Marv was not some unique savant to this...he just took the b.s. that white America had yoked him with and put it into capitalist/Christian terms. Yes, wonderful song...but the plight was before him as well as after (and current). Why do ppl hate...usually because they have been wronged . So Marvin is basically asking what have Blacks done wrong to deserve the maltreatment.

I absulutely feel the same (as German), I often listen to him, than I Feel emotion - and miss this wonderful guy! He sung about a lot of super good emotions, non of it was wrong - a absolute human right emotions and wishes - he was LIVING, he had the human SOUL, and had "to go" because convention. He was (is) a Pioneer.

If Marvin were alive today, he would perhaps sit quiet and shake his head in disbelief, and ask What The Hell Is Going On!!! One of the Greatest Social-Artist Ever created!!!

Wait a minute. Music is not getting better.. music is losing its course. This right here is music. Very few have been able to assemble a message quite like this. Long live Marvin's soul in his music ❤️

music isn't losing its course. it's changing and evolving, like it always has. if you keep a closed mind to everything going on now, you'll be left behind. and yes, there's crap on the radio now. just like there was crap on the radio back in 1971.

Did they wonder whats going on, I doubt it. Who wondered why JFK wanted Blacks and whites to be intergerated, and who was behind it and why, that was the 1960's. What is going on TODAY, the schools they Blacks was intergerated in is now a Mill stone around their necks from schools to PRISONS. When Blacks would have been better off with their own schools.

"Crime is increasing...trigger happy policemen...", Marvin was a true prophet. I believe this song was written in 1971, and it is STILL the soundtrack of today. A genius in every sense of the word. Gone too soon.

I wish musicians still recorded social songs as they did back in the day.Back then, black and white musicians recorded songs of peace and love, which brought us together in late 60's throughtout 70's and early 80's.Times were chaotic beginning early 60's,and 70's with, civil rights movement, vietnam war,Dr.King's,Pres Kennedy,Robert Kennedy,Medgar Evans,Malcolm X, and so many others.I do beleive love conquers all,and there will be a day of peace, here on earth, but only with God.💌💌
