In this clip, Marvin Sapp spoke about his time with the gospel group Commissioned, and he explained that he’s surprised at how the group never won awards despite being nominated for many, including Grammys. Marvin pointed out that the Winans family was sweeping the awards, and he joked that you knew you weren’t going to win if you were nominated alongside any of the Winans. From there, Marvin spoke about “King of Glory” being the song that introduced him to the world. Marvin also spoke about his late wife, MaLinda, and he explained that they knew one another since elementary school. Marvin went on to reveal that he knew he wanted to marry MaLinda six months into dating her, and he added that his love for his wife will never go away. Marvin then spoke about what he’s looking for in his next wife, and he explained why he’s not going to stay single for the rest of his life.
From there, Marvin reflected back on his decision to leave Commissioned in 1996. He explains that because he found it difficult to balance his family life with the group, his solo career, acting and preaching, he decided to leave the group to attain a healthy balance in his life at home. From there, he explains in detail the difference between being in a group and being a solo recording artist. As the discussion moves along, he talks about using his name and notoriety as a musician to reach the masses and preach the gospel. He then talks about his best-selling album to date, "Thirsty," before talking about the events leading up the making of a hit single off the record called "Never Would Have Made It." He talks about how the record stayed atop the charts for 47-straight weeks. Which is an accomplishment that not even Michael Jackson or Prince accomplished. Lastly, he gives credit to his wife for encouraging him to make a song out of a moment that was inspired by an impromptu worship session during a sermon.

I’m confused because Mariah and Boyz II Men held that record and then Lil Nas X broke it. I never heard Sapp in those list of names 🤔 Edit: So I just looked it up, he has the longest number 1 record on the Gospel charts. I guess he’s saying no one has had a number 1 for as long as he had, which is almost a year, but it should’ve been clarified that it was the gospel charts not the Hot 100 which would’ve been harder to do. “Never Would’ve Made It” reached #82 on the Hot 100. Prince and MJ went number 1 on the Hot 100 many times 🤷🏿‍♂️

Guarantee if Marvin Sapp initial videos were hitting even 80k views. They wouldn’t be this long. Why would VTv send out a large 30 min interview when they see the videos are getting decent views? It’s all about how much money can we make off of our videos. That’s why they release portions everyday that’s the game plan. But again, you also have to keep viewers engaged at least on vtv. Take a look at the views on these interviews . It’s not worth it to release multiple 3-5 minute clips when they only getting 10k likes. So u increase the minutes u release to get it over with cause again u have to keep viewers engaged . lol welp

Think about this, and I hope someone from the family sees this. They - the Winans and BeBe & CeCe - fell off a cliff when they made albums with “Him” and “He” instead of “God” and “Jesus”. It wasn’t until Kirk, Yolanda and Donnie crossed over that CeCe made a comeback. I have never seen any of them address that. Marvin Winans has one of the greatest voices ever and it has been low key for years even with him being a pastor.

I think certain people come to christ in there own way and certain things brought them to christ so for me it was the music and I think if we didn't have these Christian artists or gospel artists to put out new music to keep us encouraged a lot of us would have jumped off the bus a long time ago....so for me im glad they still put out music because we all need a reminder that God will protect us and cover us.....and music has the power to heal!
