In this clip, legendary gospel singer/pastor Marvin Sapp talks about being inspired to write "Never Would Have Made It," because his father died, "The Best in Me" because his pastor died, and "My Testimony" because his wife died. He describes writing each song as a "moment" saying they weren't planned, inspiration just hit him. From there, Marvin reflects back on his heyday in the late 2000s, when he performed at the BET Awards and won all 7 Stella Awards that he was nominated for. Marvin explains that although he was riding high in his profession, he did not get to enjoy the success because his wife fell ill with colon cancer shortly after his father died. From there, he talks about fatherhood after his wife passed, his relationship with God and re-prioritizing his life. Lastly, shares a story with Shawn Prez about backing out of a business engagement with a church so that he could take his kids to the "On the Run Tour" starring Beyonce and Jay-Z.

Let me say that i now have the utmost respect for Pastor Marvin Sapp after hearing how he prioritizes his family over the church. My ex-husband was pastoring when we were married... actually, he still is a pastor, but I've always believed that my family is my first ministry. My ex-husband, on the other hand, believed that the church, his preaching engagements, preachers' conferences, etc. all come before not just me during our marriage, but also our daughter, who is now 20 years old, after we divorced. This NEVER made sense to me because your own house is falling apart but you'd rather put on a facade to build up people in the church who will pat you on the back today but tomorrow will use you up, stab you in the back and turn on you tomorrow.🤦‍♀️ Although I had been asking him to be more present for and more supportive of our daughter since she was a little girl, the church was always his top priority. I don't understand why he was so shocked when she expressed to him a couple of weeks that she now has Daddy issues because she never felt like she was important to him. I wish that I could say that he at least supported her financially and paid child support that he was court ordered to after we divorced. He paid consistently for maybe a year and a half....to this day he's over $40,000 in arrears...but that's a whole 'notha conversation. Peace & Blessings to you & your family, Pastor Sapp.

When I lost 7 family members and almost lost my life Jesus came to me and I got born again. So things are happening around you for a reason but as the devil open more and more opportunities and we don’t spiritually consider what’s before us we end up missing it and blaming those things on God but they are actually from the devil himself. Come out from amongst them and be ye separate: don’t mean for a dollar the devil gets to sample and use my music for wicked sake and gains.

They are going to love and appreciate you especially you are raising them right. My mom passed away and I was always close with my dad and still am. Men love and respect the fact that my dad is in my life plus I understand men more. Teach them that it’s ok to be feminine, cook, clean, keep their hair and nails done while acting like a lady(no cursing, cross/close their legs when sitting) and be friendly while staying fit. Take them to women feminine places(nail shop, mall, hair salon, store to get their menstrual products) and teach them just as a mother would and they will know a fine example of a man/husband! Let them know everyone is not their friend and all girls aren’t good girls, if they have aunts let them hang out so they can be around women as well.
