Always nice to hear Hank and Bruce sing lots of people don't know the Shadows sang when taking part in the Eurovision song contest for the United Kingdom with let me be the one in 1975.

Great to see John Farrar, on the left, who wrote "You're the One that I Want" and many big hits for Olivia Newton John.

What a trio of talent right there. And to think Tarney & Spencer were the rhythm section. Dang, a lot of good musical gold in terms of playing, singing, producing and songwriting. Terry Brittan was in that mix at the time as well. Just like Olivia was helped by Welch & Farrar in the early 70's, Cliff owes his 70's resurgence to Welch, Brittan and Tarney. Farrar continued doing amazing stuff with Olivia through the 70's and 80's. Tarney & Spencer have three amazing albums as well. Just so much good stuff from that crew.

A forgotten trio, terribly underrated.

Well, it's Terry Britten, and Brian Bennett did contribute to MW&F. They did have a great sound--the equal of anything else from that time period.

In those days it used to be a common practice on TV variety shows (for various technical reasons) that an act would record a new, live-sounding instrumental track, and then sing live while miming on the instruments. It seems possible that's what they did here.

Et ça n'a pas pris une seule ride malgré le temps qui passe ...The songs of The Shadows are intemporel ! Good... very good...Greatest song ! My bigs Brothers...

Yes they are singing over a backing track, but they are singing live, (nice when Bruce says Rockytop to John Farrar. A shame the "Shadows" fans wouldent let these guys continue as MWF they made 3 great albums (one without Bruce) but great songs and production from the guys. The jumper? theres a possiblity Hank still has it !! ha ha! TheGreen Marvin was stolen in the early 70s like Hanks White one (with the Baldwin scratchplate!)

Great stuff. It sounds to me like they are singing live over the original with the recorded vocals sitting low in the mix.

It's quite a good version actually. I remember the song well from back in the 4th Form days. Interesting Blue Mink were there, you can definately feel their high harmonies in the background and interesting to see Whittaker there too. I'm guessing it was his show which I don't think we got here.

This is from Whittaker's World of Music - 5th June 1971, a Saturday tea time series on LWT that ran for one season between April and July 1971. A variety of musical and variety acts appeared on the show such as Freda Payne, The Move, Slade, the Bee Gees, Bruce Forsyth and Ken Dodd, many of which dueted with Roger on his choice of songs.

It's definitely mimed (possibly live vocals), but it might be a re-recording for the show with the house rhythm section, which was Blue Mink, as it happens.

Too true. I think alot of audiences have got more open minded over the years when acts bring in new material, but there's still loads of people who seem to thrive on nostalgia too much. I've heard many a comedian say that when they played social clubs, audiences only wanted to hear jokes that they knew. How stupid is that?
