I think every boy had a Fort Apache in the 60s and 70s. LOL

I got this for Christmas 1970 when I was in the first grade. Still have two or three soldiers in the "frontier" motif. Never saw the box as Santa had it set up for me. I also had the "Blue and Gray" set and "Sons of Liberty".

Thank you for sharing this. I don’t remember enough detail to be sure it was this particular release, but I do remember vividly the excitement at 5, 6 or 7 years old running downstairs and finding this setup by the Christmas tree by my parents as well as a tee pee some time between 1970-1973 when we were stationed at SHAPE (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe) in Mons, Belgium. Magical years in my upbringing and memory. Our next assignment was stateside at Ft Riley, KS. I kind of expected it to look like this Fort Apache play set. I was kind of wrong about that. :)

I would have loved this in about 1967. By 1972 I was 15 and long out of toys. I bought my son sets, but they had changed the molds by the late 1980s.

I'll be posting a Ben-Hur diorama set soon. Not sure if you had that one.

No. There were a lot I didn't have. I was a poor kid in the Midwest in the 1960s, growing up in the country. We didn't get a lot of presents.

My grandfather had the full set but now I only have half of the walls, the main building with all the attachments, 5 of the US soldiers, and most of the Indians. All the rest was either lost or destroyed. The figures and the building pieces are still in very good condition.

Sears put out an exclusive set in 1964 that I have never seen a review.Had everything you can imagine in a fort apache.Biggest set not the giant sets.

Yes I have a video on that one too.

Did any of these sets ever have a Gatling gun on a wheeled mount? A friend had more or less this set, with the John Ford style cavalry, while I had one with the pioneers. But he also had a Gatling gun. He said it came with his set.
@paulknappcollections11 ай бұрын
To the best of my knowledge Marx never made a gatling gun so no it never came in a Marx Fort Apache set, however there were other companies that made similar forts like Fort Commanche I believe made by MPC that may have made a gatling gun. Hope this helps.

I am looking at a 1972 Sears Fort Apache set by Marx (not this version - the other one), and a 1978 Marx Fort Apache set, in roughly the same condition, at roughly the same price. Which one should I go for?
@paulknappcollections4 ай бұрын
I always go for the older ones when possible if in good shape. I'm selling a few Forts next weekend at the show.

Neat stuff! I'm gonna sound like an old geezer (which I am) but are toys today anything like this? If they are, I have some advice for you young guys with spare money and space in your home. Buy up the toys you enjoyed as a kid and throw them in a closet, then forget about them. In 50 years take them out and set them up. I wish I had spent some of my beer money on Marx playsets during the 70's!

Anything made in 1/32 scale anymore is 3d printed. Sad, but true. No kids are playing with these kind of toys anymore. Thanks for watching
@ronhoover5516 Жыл бұрын
@@paulknappcollections Agree. History is something kids today aren't into. It's not featured on TV anymore, It was all over the TV in the 60s and early 70s when I was growing up, in popular shows and movies.

What type cannon is that supposed to represent ?
@paulknappcollections Жыл бұрын
No clue. It's just the Marx standard cannon that comes with every set.
@jamesvokral493411 ай бұрын
The quality of the playsets decreased significantly over time. If you compare the older sets it is obvious the newer pieces are inferior.
@paulknappcollections11 ай бұрын
Oh no doubt. They will never make stuff like that again.

To Paul Knapp: I really appreciate & Love your Stuff on Collectables Sir. To Me they are Fantastic, & bring back so Much Nostalgia too Me. Sorry I'm Not a Subscriber, as I don't really want that Tight of involvement or Commitment to thing's on-line Presently? So moving Forward? I see above you are Presenting the Marx Fort Apache Plastic Box set here. That is Great & Exceptional too See & Hear. As for My interests, I had the Metal Carry Case version of Fort Apache, in the Early 1970s that would Open up to like 32"×48" with Two Gates & the Soldiers, & the Indians, plus Misc. Amenities such as Cannons, Water Well, Corral fencing, & such. What I'd like to See is a Short Piece on this Great Play Set 📐☺️📐. As it Gave Myself, & Some Friends of Mine. Countless Hour's of Excellent imaginary Adventure time. The Part it Occupied in My Lifetime. Helped Me too Develop, My Love of Western History, but also to Learn & Fully come to appreciate that Histories importance in this Continent's? Over all Evolution into the Three, Sole Countries that have Evolved from it. So Please Mr Knapp could you Show a Small even Short Clip on those Great Sets. If so it'd be Very Appreciated.
