It helped me a lot as an anthropology student. I think, it is a talent to express those kind of complex ideas in a simplistic form. Thanks a lot for this video and your hard work!!!

It truly is a gift to explain these kinds of things. As I'm preparing from my graduation exam trying to mock present these concepts I'm truly appreciating this skill some people (not me) have

Thank you. I have my MA defense tomorrow, and I just watch you whenever I need some theoretical support. Always laconic and sufficient.

Dialectics, instead of treating phenomena as independent parts, sees their interconnectedness. Yes, they approached it with a eurocentric bias, because they were europeans, but that's a whole different discussion and does not negate the fact dialectics is a science, annd we have used this science to unpack these very truths you say marxism neglected. Unlike the former, idealism holds no material truth. Which is what dialectical materialism replaced.

Thanks for the thoughtful response, David. If you don't mind, this is a great topic for a Q&A and I would love to feature your comment in our eventual 5k subscriber Q&A video. Approaching dialectics as a science opens up an emic/etic discussion regarding how dialectical materialism (and the term science itself) is used by Marxist social scientists vs (what I would call) Marxist-adjacent or Marxist-inspired social scientists. The two groups share a lot by way of core literature, but can differ significantly on issues like this. That makes this a very rich and potentially interesting conversation that reveals a lot about how different types of leftist theorists use and understand Marxian theory. I appreciate you bringing it up and it's a great point. I'll try to let you know when we're prepping that Q&A 🍻👍

This is by far your worst video. I say it as an anthropologist and as a Marxist.
