What I was taught about thies subjects was that the government owns everything and no one has a say. And was so far from Karl Marx original ideas that they were twisted in to the strong arm tactics by the governments to make its citizens comply and surrender everything it appears that that is not true I guess what my teachers taught was not the correct definitions. Just a point of view, and opinions only not truth. Star trek the next generation is about as close to marks ideals. As they come. But I was also taught about anuther version of thies things too. That everyone was peaceful and equal no one was above our below anuther every one was equal and everyone had a say.but of course that kind of Communism or socialism is impossible because humans love greed power money and control and fear and want to be above instead of treating everybody equally so that is why the perfect society with no war nobody has more money than the other and peaceful and equal could never exist in this world. Communism is a classless, stateless society. Socialism is a society trying to achieve communism by using the state to end class society (the workers now control the means of production and the capitalists no longer control production or hoard wealth). Capitalism is a dictatorship of the capitalist class. Socialism is a dictatorship of the working class. Communism, once again, is the stage at which the state is no longer necessary once there are no economic classes and societies can produce solely for use rather than exchange. This stage can probably only exist after capitalism no longer exists anywhere in the world.

Regardless of where anyone sits on the political spectrum it makes it pretty difficult to have an honest, good faith debate on these different ideologies when 90%+ of people have such massive misconceptions on the topic. Socialists struggle with this, but not the rest of the world. Socialists have run out of ideas in the 19th century and exist as a testament to the effectiveness of demagogy and cheap word tricks on stupid or mentally troubled people in society. This describes Marx's career and the sick minded folks who engaged in the DSA convention, nazism, the soviet takeover of Russia, etc. Either way, a claim to be socialist is a claim to violate basic human rights in the economy. Democratic Socialism is mostly a US term of DSA party and the Progressive Bernie Sanders - these are the most prominent of anything ever labeled this way in world history. Sanders proposes a state takeover of healthcare such that Americans and American insurance companies cannot pay directly for medical care. This puts little daylight between democratic socialists and national socialists of Germany. Right away, in 1933, the nazis pursued socialism just like this, placing the state between the autonomous transactions between members of the public (eg commodity exchange act).

Sure but you're missing the more useful point. Socialism doesn't mean anything anymore, it's like "populism" or "people's party", it's just politisphere backwash that has a different taste depending on your perspective and upbringing, that people like to have semantic arguments over. If you want to talk about socioeconomic systems and human organization then you have to just look at what is actually happening. So we should start by just ditching words that have unfortunately become inherently confusing and say what we mean. To do that, of course, you would have to know what you mean first. *Edit* btw I'm not saying nobody should say socialism anymore, lol, people should use whatever words they want as long as they are talking to people who understand what they mean - so communication is happening. The problem with these kinds of shape-shifting political curse words on something as wide as the internet or other public discourse is that people are coming with different definitions for these kinds of words, and therefore cross-group communication is not happening when political science terms are ubiquitous. Just my two cents

@nikto nic All other things like “communism” can be traced back to the core idea of Marxism. Once you understand Marxism you can start to understand the rest. They are all branching forms of Marxism. There’s an inherent problem with Marxism that Marxists will likely fight me on but it’s been evident throughout history. The truth is Marxism is an appealing ideology at face value to anyone who is in the working class or strives for compassion and equality for all people. The issue is it only works in theory. Any attempt at achieving “true Marxism” in history has resulted in the other ideologies like Stalinism and Communism. The inherent greed and jealousy in humans takes over Marxism. Instead of equality for all it becomes an ideology for spiteful people to commit violence or “revolution” against “oppressors” aka people in a higher class than them. Then they govern society. That is done with the naive assumption that they themselves would not be come corrupt and evil because now they are the “oppressors” in the upper class. Turns out if you want equality for all and you want the government to control things like food and wealth distribution things get corrupt and very opposite of that very fast and Marxism ends up just self perpetuating into the very thing it sought to destroy. I recommend researching the “holomodor” if you want a real disturbing historical example of what Marxism can truly lead too. Modern socialist ideologies within capitalism are more reasonable things to support. “Democratic Socialism” aka the government has a limited and controlled ability to interfere with the economy and means of production. For instance someone like Bernie Sanders who argues for universal healthcare , aka the government can impose restrictions on pharmaceutical corporations to stop them from making medicine and healthcare whatever price they want

@nikto nic Bernie Sanders is actually a great advocate for Communism. He loves the old Soviet Union. He in fact spent his honeymoon there and came back here talking about how wonderful it was. What these “socialist” countries don’t talk about is the wealthy elite, when seriously ill, ( including countries with “socialized medicine” like Canada) come to U.S. for treatment. Not only is it (the treatments or specialized surgeries) more readily available, it’s much less expensive. Now, I need to clarify- it WAS before the government put their greedy fingers it. There are a lot of areas that government has no business in- and of all of them- healthcare is the main one. Our healthcare has done nothing but erode since government put their fingers in it with cost rising and quality of care diminishing. I know what I’m talking about- I’ve been a hospice nurse for over 36 yrs

@diedoktor11 ай бұрын
This is definitely a good starting point for someone who is only familiar with the capitalist framing of these terms, but there are a few innacuracies. First, the USSR was not socialist, as the workers did not own the means of production. Second, anarchists can still support a state if the state is justified by the material conditions. There's also the part where you equivocate the state with the community, when the distinction is both obvious and important. Despite the authoritarian bias it'll at least broaden the conceptions of someone stuck in the rigid capitalist view.
@soulcapitalist62049 ай бұрын
Collectivized means of production is controlled by the collective government. Capitalism is the proposal that individuals like workers may own the means of production. Anarchists do not support a state. "Material conditions" is marxist and not anarchist talk. There will never be stateless material conditions. Marx who made up the term makes it out to be impossible and untestable - utopian - that any state will melt away from collectivism (in his Critique of the Gotha Program part 1)

Gingivitic Cinema And with good reason, everytime it is tried it works for a while, but eventually human greed takes over so people will either cheat the state and get more than they deserve, or not work at all for there is no benefit of working. Due to this the government must force the population to work against their will (which is brutally inefficient), and if they don't comply they are sent to gulag (or death camps, work camps, prisons, whatever floats the authoritarian boat).
@brianviktor82127 жыл бұрын
It's not exactly greed which is the issue there. That's again a socialist's view of why things go bad in society: "That particular socialist system failed because people fell back to the greed which we were supposed to fight!" No, no, no. There is a big distinction to make. The issue is that totalitarianism, the infringement of individual freedoms and taking full control of everyday life is a huge disaster. And then there is the thing with instead of learning from the failure, those in power try to push their agenda even harder and more rigorously, making use of "reeducation" and gulags to silence their opposition with the absolute power they claimed. Simply said: It's not the evil human nature which succeeds to resurface and causes the system to collapse, It's the system, which is hostile to humanity itself, falling apart due to it's inherent perversion.
@olivercuenca41097 жыл бұрын
Brian Viktor At the same time, I'd say the "falling back into" part generally is accurate, just that greed isn't quite the reason. It's a potential reason, but not the only one. The problem is the obsession with doing things through a revolution rather than gradually. When people have only known one way of doing things, even when the system changes entirely; they'll let it all go back to precisely how it was before the revolution. Take France or Russia. Both autocracies, they both had a revolution, and within ten years the people themselves allowed themselves to be put back under an autocratic government because that's what they saw as normal, rational government. The only reason the USA got through its revolution really is because they kept most of the government in place and essentially just made the monarchy elected.
@brianviktor82127 жыл бұрын
@Gauntlets 28 - Seems reasonable, I agree. But there are two types of revolution. One intends to liberate the people from an oppressive government and high taxation. The other intends to claim the first, but tries to seize totalitarian power itself, resulting merely in a power shift which may be even worse than what it was before. Socialism belong in the second category, and as we know, leads to genocides, vast human suffering, wars and death. And as I said, not because humans are not "ready yet," but because it opposes human nature and reality so much it will disperse over time. And yeah, the gradual transition is working perfectly, the majority of people are already wage slaves or dependent on the state. Soon, if the socialist system is fully achieved, we are all slaves to the globalist order. I hope that's not the goal you want to achieve... because that's what a dark part of me wants, to see the world burn and suffer, to see how people slowly decay in face of their decadence - and socialism is the way to do it.

The whole government is set up to create the illusion that you can get there if you just work hard enough. That’s how they keep the poor getting poorer and the rich getting richer. Having things needed for human survival, like healthcare, provided would help the poor rather than hurt them. In my opinion though, we probably wouldn’t have to raise taxes. If we redistributed even 1/4 of the military budget to healthcare we could pay for most things

@@ghost_evermore and of course if the one percent paid their fair share, people like trump who has paid less tax in 5 years than a part time, minimum wage employee!

@@ghost_evermore Don't take away their American dream (or is it Utopia). They will end up even more depressed. Let them have their 'socialism is communism' and let's expand our social democracy.

As someone whose political views drift left and right all the time, i really enjoyed this video and found it very interesting. Thank you for this.

The Timurid Horde I feel the same. I guess that's what makes Norway so atractive. Seems like they were able to have a good balance between both

Max Otto I'm guessing he just isn't sure whether to go for socialist or for fascism.

Max Otto political spectrum tests aren’t an accurate representation of your political stance. They are far too simplistic

That's why i find useful to just call Social Democracy as Social Liberalism. Because it strayed away so much from any part of the socialist umbrella that shouldn't even have the "democratic" term attached to it since it bows down to capital so intensely.
@soulcapitalist6204 Жыл бұрын
@angolaproductions2011All social democracies are social liberal, which moots this new term you present. Social democracies all guarantee capitalism and this is what liberal refers to in liberal democracy. All social democracies are liberal democracies with decades of guaranteed capitalism in their history.
@soulcapitalist6204 Жыл бұрын
@angolaproductions2011 Social democracies all guarantee capitalism - private and market based means of production - and have done so for years. The social component of social democracy refers to welfare and other state services, mainly for poor.

It would be better to avoid "liberalism " as description. It is too much confused with its classical meaning.
@kskskdoxoakqnnwneАй бұрын
No, social liberalism is a system that try to help the people to get their needs, social democracy give people their needs, as a “social liberalist” i think thats better than socialdemocracy because here we have a lot of lazy people that like to recieve money from the state but doesnt like to work,

Socialist country are lead by the communist who kinda did among the worst genocide in history for the "common good". So people are right to treat it as a danger for themself and their way of life, it has failed to many time to be trust, to much betray like the Spanish civil war or Cambodgia, History prevail, you can say it's an utopia but you can't act like it would work in his purest form all over the world, only in small country maybe.

@Adithya Nair Well to be fair my family has run away from a totalitarian communist country because they wanted to have more oppotunity in life than "product what we told you to produce" so if people are not willingfull to work you have to force them

I genuinely love the little quotations of dialogue between the figures on the screen. They actually do help me understand the content, which is frankly something I didn't expect from something so simple.

forget the “isms” focus on the power , how it is arrived at and how it is used. All the “isms” do is divert you from analysis of the accrual and exercise of power.
