Mark Lowry wrote the lyrics of this song, his friend and long-time co-singer in the Gaither Band, Buddy Greene put the lyrics to music. Another couple of groups you may enjoy, especially if you're looking at Christmas music, would be Home Free singing "Do you hear what I hear." Another is The Hound and the Fox, featuring Tim Faust singing "We Three Kings." Both renditions are epic!

That gentleman is Mark Lowry, who wrote and sung the song originally!! The reason he is sitting is because he has MS! 18 seconds.....twice!!

I have checked this and no mention of Mark having MS. He still sings with the group. He has been recovering from a scooter accident where he broke his same leg again. Not a mention of anything wrong with him other than his broken leg. This is the 3rd video where you or someone else is saying he has MS. It’s not true.

Just a bit of backstory on Voctave. The man all the way to the left is Jamey Ray who established Voctave and arranges all of their music. Almost all of Voctave are past or present singers in Voices of Liberty at the American Pavillion at EPCOT in Walt Disney World. Thank you for the heart-felt reaction.

Loved your reaction! Mark Lowry penned 'Mary Did You Know' as a poem which he used on a Christmas card one year. Several years later he sent the lyrics to several friends to get suggestions for putting his poem to music. His friend, Buddy Green, who is a marvelous harmonica and guitar player, composed the original music kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGWqgJppqtGLb5I in this gorgeous minor key. Check him out. Much later, Mark Lowry sang 'Mary Did You Know' as lead in this Utube video. The group of singers known as Voctave is an acappella group that sometimes sing backup as they did with Mark, but when they sing as a group, they use as many or as few members as required for the individual productions! Kudos to everone in Voctave for everything they are part of! Mark was sitting down in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5K1oZiDiZanoLM because he has MS. It is incredible that He had such marvelous breath control.

Mark Lowry was with The Gaither Vocal Band for decades. He has retired now because he has M.S. which is why he is sitting down in this video. He said the thought for this song came to him one morning when he was drinking his coffee and thinking “What questions would I ask Mary if she was sitting here drinking coffee with me?”

Why would she not have known? The Bible makes very clear the Angel Gabriel told her. What's next? Jesus, did you know you're being crucified? This song insults Christianity.

Luke says that Gabriel told her that she would have a son, that she was to call his name Jesus that he would be great and called the Son of the Most High, that he would reign on David's throne forever. This song doesn't question any of that. She had the knowledge that He was the son of God but nowhere does it say she was told everything that was going to occur. Mark Lowry who wrote the lyrics has said the song isn't about Mary but it's about Jesus. You don't have to like the song but to call it an insult to Christianity is a bit much. The writer had done nothing but sing and testify his entire career.
