To those still living "those days": bless you. Be happy, be true to goodness, stay pure of heart, and those days will bless you for the rest of your life. Even in the pain of sorrow at missing, my collection of those days are precious to me, for it is better to have loved and lost, then never to have loved at all.

Mary Hopkin kuuluu maailman parhaimpiin laulajiin. Laulutaito vertaansa vailla ja miellyttävä lauluääni. Siinäpä ne tärkeimmät avut.

I used to busk with this song when I was 14, down Circular Quay with a tin whistle, in duet with an English flute player. We wore boater hats and did quite well.

the story is post a world war II scenario, after the war most displaced soldiers that could not return to their family found the TAVERN as hang out to forget loneliness. but in the TAVERN many things that is much sorrowful than loneliness happened. the girls that worked in the tavern almost had the same case with the soldiers they tried to fight poverty and disaster by drowning them selves into alcohol and sleeping with the soldiers and hoping that the soldier will return and take her as his wife but we all know that the part "returning" did not happen. - both the girl and the boy had separated lives but they could not forget what happened in the TAVERN so the song THOSE WERE THE DAYS. in the last part of the song it mentioned "he called my name" a strive to believe that those days are not yet over.

Reading JOb 29, I recalled: “Those were the Days my Friend” JOb is longing here for what WAS, not what IS (God). I can be guilty of that too.

IT REALLY DOES NOT MATTER IF THE ORIGIN OF THE SONG IS RUSSIAN BOTH THE AMERICANS AND THE RUSSIANS FOUGHT ON THE SAME SIDE DURING WWII. SO THEY BOTH HAVE THE RIGHT TO SING THE SAME SONG.
