And she only really loved him for spiderman since as Peter she kept complaining and saying that they were talking about her without even thinking, "hey I'm dating spiderman, I should just be helpful and supportive instead of telling him that it's all about me". But Mary Jane is a popular girl in the school n guys wanna date her so they can proudly say, hey I'm dating her etc etc. Just like our celebrities, they date many people before marrying someone. Dating someone is very normal thing. When MJ confessed her love for Peter at the end of Spiderman 1 he turned it down because of the whole Spidey thing but she didn't know about that. In Spiderman 2 MJ is mad at Peter because he is the one who encouraged her to follow her dreams but now she is being successful and he isn't there to witness it. Peter is the only person who believed in her and when she is achieving her goals he isn't there to share the joy. That's what made her pissed n remember she still doesn't know about the whole Spidey thing. And then she decided to marry someone because she can't spend her life thinking about a guy who isn't there to give his time for her. Just think from her point of view she just wanna move on. But when she finally finds out that Peter is Spiderman, she understands Peter's love and her mistakes. That Peter did it because he didn't want to put her life in danger. Then now she can easily got married to that astronaut dude and lived a billionaire's life but she turned it down for Peter someone who can't pay his rent. She is willing to take risk well being Spiderman's GF isn't easy ur life is always been in danger but she decided to face it with Peter.
