In 1985 I was 14 years old and my mum was depressed because she'd separated from my Dad. In a highly uncharacteristic move, she bought she and I a complete Mary Kay skincare and makeup range for each of us. It cost her a fortune. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. May Kay Cosmetics worked so well for my mum and I and I continued to use their products for 20 years. Loved one of their lipsticks in the colour "Toffee". I miss that time and my great skin back then. Btw, my Mum recovered from her divorce and has been living her best life ever since.

When I was a new MARY Kay worker, I became extremely ill with Chronic Fatigue. MARY Kay telephoned me. I was unable to sit up but the phone was placed on my pillow. She told me I would get well. She prayed for me. It took 12 years but I did become well enough to return to work!

The problem with Mary Kay is that for sales director's to hit their unit sales quotas, they have to constantly recruit new consultants who they strongly encourage to invest in large amount of inventory. I remember getting an email from my sales director who earned a 'free' trip to Hawaii thanking us for our hard work. I realized that she earned that trip on my debt. Heck, instead of buying inventory, I should have taken my family to Hawaii.

Yes; soon after joining, our sales director told us this brutal truth; the key to making it in Mary Kay is recruiting beauty consultants, who will then purchase costly supplies of inventory. The company encourages its consultant to purchase large amounts of it and isn't upfront about this in their recruitment efforts. A total pyramid scheme IMO.

I had a great aunt very high up in Mary Kay. She was named a regional manager or some such. My mom adored her. She had earned a car,a home, vacations, wore very expensive clothes and smelled rich. She would only ever call or visit to try and recruit my mom and I. Smh. My mom only ever wanted to be hugged by her and this woman only looked at us as meal tickets. What’s even more despicable is we were dirt poor! Poorer than poor. My aunt knew our situation. My dad was sick with kidney disease, my sister and I were 2 of the youngest ever at the time diagnosed with it, too. Dad couldn’t work anymore, it was the 80’s and VW plant had just closed depressing our local economy to pretty desperate depths. My mom would take me to stand in the government cheese line just to get food so we didn’t starve. Stuff tasted godawful, too. The aunt never cared. My mom thought the world of that woman and I don’t think she’d piss on us if we were on fire! I did go to a regional meeting once she invited me to attend. She bragged me up as her niece, her diamond laden hands on my shoulders. She never once asked me about me and simply went into a sales pitch to become a seller under her. Smh. I declined. I knew nobody was buying that stuff in the early 90’s. I did try selling Avon once, nobody wants it. I dared uttering the word “Avon” and you would have thought I just told them the Aristocrat joke! 😂 Very cringe, their reaction. It was the last time I saw her, my mom has seen her thru the years and the visits were always only sales calls. My mom just couldn’t see it for what it was thru her rose colored glasses.

I think Mary Kay is a good product. They have great skin care lines and a large variety of lipsticks and foundations. If you decide to be a consultant, to earn extra cash or a discount on you products I say go for it but please don’t expect to become rich. Like all MLM you are pushed to recruit people and “sell” your inventory to the new recruits. I actually know people that just do retail sales and consulting to clients that love the products and are repeat customers. They made more money that way than they ever did by recruiting new consultants.

When i was around 5 or 6 years old in 1989, my mother started selling Mary Kay products. She was a very hard-working woman and set the foundation for me that anything was possible. She would do the paper route before the sun came up (back when your newspaper actually got dropped off on your doorstep). Then, she attended to her 4 young children during the day if we weren't in school. Then, in the evening, she would host mary Kay gatherings and sell her heart out. My mother was actually a very excellent sales woman. Unfortunately, at the same time, my father ventured very deep into his gambling habit and took my mother down with him. But before that, she was very successful at what she did, and if i remember right, she won mostly extra products or a percentage off. The actual big gifts were just way beyond her selling limits, but dear god, did she try. 😊

I sold Mary Kay during the early 1970s. I still have my eye shadow brush! I went to two conventions and they were so much fun. Mary Kay said that the products consultants purchased were refundable at, as I recall, 50%. Truly, it might have been more. When I moved to a rural area, I returned a lot of my inventory, and I did get a refund. I have nothing but good to say about Mary Kay, her company,or her products. I was an 18 year old army bride in Hopewell VA in 1966. I couldn’t find a job because I was a “Yankee” and because my husband was military. So, I bought my Mary Kay starter kit and went door to door trying to sell the stuff. There was no training, and I really didn’t know what I was doing. The kit was around $100.00. Long story short. Mary Kay received $100.00 from me and I earned zilch. I was also allergic to the cream, and didn’t care for most of the products.

We used to live down the street from a Mary Kay lady. She had a big pink Cadillac in her driveway. Her 3 big poodles would somehow escape from her home and they'd be roaming around the neighborhood. Within minutes we'd hear a roaring engine and look out the window to see that big pink Cadillac zooming down the street in reverse - looking for those dogs. She'd collect them all and drive back down to her house. Happened a few times. Just a random story. This was over 20 years ago and that big pink Cadillac is still in her driveway

I worked in Accounting in Corporate Office in Mississauga Ontario Canada. This was back in the 80s. Mary Kay was probably THE BEST Company I ever worked for. They were EXTREMELY generous to the Corporate Employees. Sports Days, Golf Days, Canadas Wonderland, Meals and Hotel stays during Canadian Conventions. I also remember the GREAT Christmas parties and Dinners at top Restaurants 😍😘♥️🥰🇨🇦 Very few Canadian Companies due any of this now. THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY MARY KAY❤. RIP Sweet Lady 🙏🏼🙏🏼 ( I did have the GREAT privilege of meeting Mary Kay backstage at Convention one time. This was when Toronto still had the OKeefe Center on Front Street. My sister, who has since passed away, became a Mary Kay Consultant in her mid thirties. She went from low self esteem, low income and despairing at life to confident, charming and successful within months. She loved it and was such a pleasure to be around; she spoke often of the professional training and personal support system the company offered her. She gifted me a Hand Care set several times and it remains one of my favorites and a wonderful memory.

I actually got to meet her when her home was open for a Dallas Symphony Show house. My company contracted to clean the house while it was open. She was pretty down to earth. I can remember being in one of her baths, and she retrieved a curtain from under the sink and said, "I think we could probably dye this to make it work." I was also a musician, so when the house was empty, I sat down to play her 9 foot grand piano. It was pretty funny to see the look on the guard's face:-)

I sadly was a consultant also. Although I sold quite a bit, I never won awards or anything as team building is the number one requirement for anything. Last I knew, Cadillac requirements were $25k sales per quarter and keeping a team of at least 15. And yes, you had to keep inventory. I hated that they would change all the packaging constantly to make us have to rebuy many items. And everything has to be bought: bags, giveaways, the list went on. I also did not agree with wearing skirts and dresses to everything so one should also know that. I personally always loved their skincare, but believe it has changed substantially and it’s not as good as it used to be. Quite honestly, I feel there are great products at the drugstore for cheaper…for example Olay’s regenerist line which has won many beauty awards.

I wore Mary Kay for years . As new products were introduced in stores like Sephora, I found many other options . I stopped using Mary Kay . The other products were easy to find, just walk into a store opposed to calling a Mary Kay consult , or going to a party. I tried Mary Kay again about six years ago. I was so disappointed .

I “sold” Mary Kay in 1991 at the age of 19. All my friends and their moms said they couldn’t afford the starter kit, which is what a customer had to buy initially. I believe it was 3 skin care products for $30, so $10 for each skin care product. $30 was too much for the average gal to want to pay for, for skin care. When I first thought about starting, my recruiter tried to convince me to borrow money from a relative so I could get the starter kit to become a sales lady, which was ridiculous. I hated that she pressured me into borrowing money. I ended up somehow earning the money on my own and bought the starter kit. The only way I was going to earn money was if I recruited multiple people under me and I would get a percentage of their sales. I hated it. I ended up using all the products myself as I wasn’t a good salesperson I guess.

After some initial sucess, businesses really fell off. I ran out of people to have home shows. All my friends were getting initiated if anything. Your circle of people only streatches so far. And most people only bought one or two things. She wanted me to go to malls and shopping centers to drum up more businesses. I was never comfortable doing that. I ran up a credit card really high and was paying it off for at least 5 years after I just gave up on trying to sell. The whole thing was awful for me personally.

I wasn't able to use any of the skin care or cosmetics before then due to allergic reactions except for lip gloss. I'd go to parties, apply to half of my face as instructed, and immediately swell up. I'd buy a lip gloss though to help the consultant. Best lip gloss I'd tried! Finally with changes in products I was able to buy and then sell. I hated having to wear pantyhose and skirts. I sold Mary Kay cosmetics a long time ago. I liked the products and made some good sales, but I didn't recruit anyone else, and that is how they make their money. Each consultant was to recruit a team of about 10 more consultants. A portion of their earnings would be reflected in the first consultant's reports, thus she gets credit for the sales while the others did the work. So, yeah, a pyramid scheme, but it was fun and exciting for a while, and it really built my confidence. The products were good, and the #2 moisturizer left my skin feeling sooo smooth. The sales presentation was brief and helpful, just basic skin care and light makeup, but most ladies really liked how they looked. That's what made it so popular.

Hello - Mary Kay certainly had the touch with make-up - very Zsa Zsa Gabor - glamour all the way. And of course, the Eva Gabor-style wigs added the finishing touch. The products were stylishly presented later on, a nod to Elizabeth Arden pink and a testament to good taste. Thank you.

I sold MK about 35 years ago. It is a MLM scheme. The ones who make the most money were at the top of the pyramid, of course. I attended a convention and had never experienced anything like that before then. The thing was, it took up a lot of my time. I had a full time day job, a family and taking care of my ill mother so I had to quit after about a year, because I didn't make enough to quit my job. I didn't get a pink Cadillac, but I still have the pink Cadillac calculator I was awarded. The trunk opened up to expose the calculator. I later found out that the real Cadillacs they gave was actually a lease.

I started using Mary Kay products when I was 18 years old back in the 60's . I continue to use their products to this day . I do miss the original products . Things changed when her son took over the company. Please bring back the original products . They were better

In the 90s, my mom was in Mary Kay. Back then, you had to have your own stock & drag it with you to home parties. It was actually the first skin care I used consistently. Since her son took over, the formulas have changed and I stopped using it. I loved the toner, moisturizer and the creamy foundation. I have tried it again, a few years ago, but it just wasn't the product I loved.

My Mom sold Mary Kay in the 70’s & her confidence soared. She started driving, found it to be a challenging career & got her out of the house. She loved it. I recall loving looking at her starter kit & wishing I could play in that beautiful makeup. She never did get her Pink Cadillac but it gave her such a boost of confidence. All I recal us that BLUE Eyeshadow & the pink compact.

As a 24 year old young wife & mother, I became an MK consultant in 1994 because the skincare system actually worked on my highly sensitive, oily skin. I rarely wore makeup, but when I did, Toffee lipstick was my favorite! Back then, we were required to wear makeup at events. I bought a bunch of inventory, but wound up stuck with it when we moved from Washington to Kansas. The market in Kansas was saturated. Everyone either already had a consultant, had tried it before & weren't interested in trying it again, or were a consultant themselves! 😂

I am from Mexico and here you can still hear some from Mary Kay. I remember I attended 2 Mary Kay parties, once in my mom’s house when I was 16 and the other one in the company’s office I was working on when I was 25. Also I can remember Mary Kay was a bit of expensive compared to other cosmetics at least here, besides that I always had my makeup remover since my 16s until I got married, just lately I started using different ones, I had a timewise foundation once but don’t remember anything special about it, and still to this day I have a gel eye liner and couple bullet lipsticks from Mary Kay that I use often. Anyway, this cosmetics are now here like for the old ladies and younger generations does not even know about it. :) greetings from Chihuahua Mexico 😘

I was introduced Mary Kay in 1998, I bought my first skincare set. I've been a consultant to be my own wholesaler off and on several times over the years. It can be a good thing if your busy like me and just put in a few orders a year for stuff you would use yourself.

I’ve been selling Mary Kay since 2003 and it’s been great. Yes you do have to pay to start by buying the start up kit. It’s never caused me family problems, in fact that’s laughable. I am not seeking a pink Cadillac so for me to have my own skin care paid for by my customers is on with me. It’s been more challenging since stores like ULTA popped up and the kids are happier spending way more money for inferior products but I stay in my lane. I’m super happy with the products.

I use to buy some products. I will say that 2 of my friends have sold MK for years and their daughters now do as well. They are gorgeous and don’t seem to age. Both are in their 60’s. I haven’t heard anything bad. I just like trying different things.

I was first introduced to Mary Kay as a teenager in the late 70s. I went to a "make-over" at my friend's house and was persuaded to spend $100 that I really couldn't afford. Fortunately, they refunded my money when I returned it a few weeks later being completely unimpressed with it. Then in the early 90s, I was duped into attending (what I started calling) an "all hail Mary Kay" event by a work acquaintance whose mother was a big deal in Mary Kay. She roped me into two subsequent events on the premise of 1. attending to support her mother in her new position higher up the ladder and 2. having a "make-over" to help her get her start in Mary Kay. The mother was suspiciously at the acquaintance's house for the make-over and at the end, asked me how I was planning to pay for my kit. That was a big nope, don't ask me ever again to support your cult.

I first bought Mary Kay products in the 80s. I think it was the basic set with moisturizer and facewash. Then around 2012, I started using Timewise products for aging skin. I used them for a few years but stopped after my Mary Kay lady stopped selling it. The products were nice. I'm glad that Mary Kaye is still selling all over the world.

I love this Mary Kay story you did 💖. I used to model in their fashion shows that they held for their reps at the Dallas Convention Center. The fashion shows were so much fun, we would do 2-3 shows a day for all the reps from all over the country. They had video walls of the show like you were at a concert. Another time I modeled in a fashion show held at Mary Kay's home in Dallas. I also modeled for one of their beauty campaigns on the cover of a brochure that the reps gave to their customers, it was for foundation, it was me and two other women. I also modeled for their brochures wearing furs that the reps could win, this was in the late 80's and early 90s. I love all your videos. I want to thank Mary Kay company and family too for all the modeling work I did for them.

Hello, I love your videos, I was a Mary Kay consultant for literally a month LOL. It was in the early 2000's and it was a huge waste of money. I own my own business and have been in sales for over 30 years but couldn't sell Mary Kay to save my life LOL. I however loved their product , and their foundation is very good but beyond that I was another victim of their company, and luckily got out fast and was left with a huge kit of unused samples and product. It works out for a few, and I certainly don't judge them, but it wasn't for me. Thanks for your videos, they are always great :)

I made a mistake by spending a lot of money purchasing Mary Kay products as a new consultant. I should have started with the basics in smaller quantities instead of overspending before I got my career off the ground. I sold some, but was never successful at it. There were a lot of products that I didn't like and had difficulty selling those products because I wasn't sold on them. I also didn't like that the person that recruited me made a lot of money off of me while I was struggling to sell the products I purchased to sell. I guess I just wasn't cut out to be a salesperson. I wore makeup but never wore much of Mary Kay's line as I preferred other more upscale brands over Mary Kay. I think people can be very successful in this kind of business if they are right for this kind of career, it just wasn't for me.

A lady that my Mom used to work with sold Mary Kay products. Idk if she actually made any money from it, but I remember attending a few parties that my Mom and Aunts hosted. My Mom didnt wear a ton of makeup, but she mostly used Mary Kay, as well as one of their facial moisturizers and the Satin Hands line until the 2000s when it started getting too expensive. One of my Aunts used the TimeWise skincare for like 15 years, and her skin always looked great. Im pretty sure it's all overpriced, but it definitely holds nostalgia for me.

Oh wow this brand really takes me back to the 70's and 80's.. My mom bought Mary Kay and i loved sneaking into her makeup bag when i was little. When I became a teenager in the mid 80's, my mom would let me use her Mary Kay products sometimes. I loved the lipbrush that came with the lipstick; everytime i used it i felt so glamorous 💃💃💃 Mary Kay felt high end compared to the Covergirl products i had of my own at the time. Up here in Canada Avon was more popular, but Mary Kay was considered a lil higher end and i think it may have been more expensive than Avon too. Thank you so much for the top shelf content gurl.. and for the lil stroll down memory lane. You're awesome!❤❤❤💄💄💄😘😘😘

I have never understood the mlm companies. Why companies prefer to sell their products through particular sellers instead of shops? Specially since some of the sellers, representatives, consultants or whatever they want to called them don’t have enough knowledge of the products they are selling in first place. It a very dangerous adventure for the sellers to invest in mlm companies. I always though of these companies as blood suckers who only want money, even though it can destroy the lives and confidence of innocent sellers in the majority of cases. You can always see there are more sellers loosing money than sellers making profits, let along sellers earning big amounts of money.
