Hi, all! Two questions: 1. Do you prefer documentary styles where the creator is on camera telling some of the story, or letting the story be told through images and video only? 2. How's the audio? I've been working hard to make it better and not so shrill. 🤪 Thank you in advance to anyone who gives feedback! I really appreciate it. ♥️

I am an ICU nurse of 30 yrs. Despite being a single mum and having had a work accident and been diagnosed with life threatening pancreatitis and Addison’s disease & requiring years of hospitalisation and multiple life threatening surgeries, I continued to push myself and worked so hard I nearly killed my self all because I was being told and ended up believing was I just wasn’t trying harder enough. I am now palliative & mostly bed ridden and most of my days I am only capable of breathing, smiling and laughing with my magnificent 19yo daughter. My family and friends pretty much all said I needed to stop feeling sorry for myself and get back to work. These unrealistic expectations do gooders like Rachel mouth off about can be dangerous. Listen to your body, mind and soul and take other’s advice with a grain of salt. Everyone is different. She is trying to make money by making others feel bad about themselves. Just my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own. As a rule I don’t like judging people when your haven’t walked in their shoes but Rachel now takes the cake.

“She’s the woman who cleans my toilets” … the last woman who “cleaned my toilets” owns her cleaning company, employs several people, & makes more money than I do. She also has a heart of gold and LOVES what she does. A few years ago we had to move my grandpa out of his home that he’d lived in for 50 years- it needed a deep clean to say the very least and that’s when we found her. I swear, when she was done with the place we thought the walls had been painted and new flooring installed, it was that clean - the woman has a GIFT - along with many people who make cleaning their career. She saw it as a way to help people, to make their lives easier, while doing something she’s good at & getting paid for it. I’m not trying to imply that every housekeeper/house cleaner owns their business or loves their job, but they are never just “someone who cleans toilets”

It was Instagrammably immaculate. The carpets were like cashmere. Even the light looked crisp and fresh. Her place is the same, she genuinely finds it meditative. I was a cleaner on and off for ages and I enjoyed it: I don't have the ultra-cleaning gift but I found it satisfying to get things neat & organized, liked being active and being able to go off in a daydream while I worked & if we had a living wage, maybe I would be doing it still.

If I were to have kids, most of their day to day care would not fall on me. My mom, my MIL, my sister, my cousins, the whole village, everyone would help here and there. I would be busy with the children, yes, but not to the level I see that American women go through. I see that most American women are basically doing it alone, with a partner that helps somewhat, and that surprised me a lot when I came here. Women cleaning, cooking, changing diapers only days after giving birth and sometimes returning to work six weeks after. Blows my mind. Someone who works for 9 hours a day + on average at least 1 hour on the road to work and back has barely time to do even the basic tasks that do nothing career- or money-wise. Thank you! That girl has never had to struggle. She married a million and doesn’t have to worry about living paycheck to paycheck. Lack of finances leads to depression because it’s super competitive out here and it’s hard to find a job if one does not have a hundreds of years of experience. And even if one finds a somewhat of a good paying job, millions are still living paycheck to paycheck. And even with that, many are suffering from non curable diseases and have to make sure they don’t get fired just because they have to go through all these scans, and bloodwork. She has no idea how hard it is out here. She doesn’t have to worry about that at all. These things leads to depression, so just even to take time to breath in the midst of the struggle is a huge deal and a accomplishment for many of us who are going through hardships. I’m not knocking her for marrying a millionaire. Good for her but she has no right to put others down with her toxic positivity because it doesn’t help anyone especially those suffering with depression and suicidal thoughts.

I don't believe in luck. It's just an excuse to explain away our failures. Just like these "gurus" use high vibes/blessings/God's favor to explain their success. Because simple "good luck" isn't marketable and scalable. Sometimes things don't work out, period. No explanation needed. We learn lessons in life, and when you build your castle on a foundation of sand, it will collapse. I.e. when you're lying to yourself to chase something you may not even be truly passionate about, you'll burn yourself out, and things won't work out. Has nothing to do with something as arbitrary and random as luck. True passion can fuel a person to overcome any obstacle. False positivity on the other hand cannot; it leads to burnout, failure, and to add insult to injury, guilt and shame for thinking "it's all your fault" and "you just don't have what it takes".

These two are full blown NARCISSISTS. And in answer to your question: I enjoy the documentary style as opposed to you being on camera. As someone who has worked in production, it seems more professional, especially when your docs are so well done and researched. Too many KZbinrs put themselves on camera when they really should stay behind the scenes. I'm not saying that YOU would be that way, but unless you are just drawn to be on camera, I prefer your doc style as is. You're probably the best doc KZbinr on here.

This. I get annoyed at all or nothing on either side of this argument. Hard work and pushing yourself IS part of life-tribal cultures today evidence this, and history does too. You do need to go out and perform. AND, we ALSO live in a severely maligned culture, very different from the community-based one our ancestors lived in. They went into the red tent and rested for a week. Community held new moms by caring for babies. I always veered away from this woman because the title of her book felt hyper critical (not to mention, Im a woman, not a girl). As someone in recovery for 20 years, I see someone afflicted by the disease of addiction. I think it’s helpful to engender compassion for Hollis as well. We can hold limits, and accountability with this in mind too. Be well.

As a British person looking at the Rachel Hollis fiasco from the outside. I can say that it is clear that Hollis was contemptuous of her target audience of chubby rubes with dull lives, duller husbands and disappointing unphotogenic children from the start. She saw them as sheep to be shorn from the very beginning. It was never a case of someone sincere getting corrupted over time by money and fame.She probably wanted to call her first book: "Girl, Wipe Your Bottom" to reflect her private low opinion of her fan base but was talked out of it by the publishers.

So, with the first $10,000 she "earned" she blew it all on a Vuitton bag...a status symbol of the most shallow amongst us? THAT is the epitome of PRIVILEGE. We who aren't wed to a millionaire would have paid our rent/mortgage, daycare, repaired our cars, paid off a credit card balance or if we wished to blow even, say, $2000, would have included our children by taking a little holiday WITH THEM. Disney comes to mind. I actually have never owned a credit card, and mentioned that because if I personally owed on one, I wouldn't rest until it had been paid off. I exist as a minimalist and frugality actually comes naturally to me. I can't relate at all to status symbols and feel that prosperity doctrine is absolutely the antithesis of all Jesus taught. Ugh.

When I read about that horribly toxic relationship that she committed to for life, I was flabbergasted. And not only that, but she just speaks through so much white middle-class to upper-class privilege and never had to do anything complicated in her life. The bottom line was, I was really excited to see this thumbnail in my feed because I really just want to see how it all collapsed after I left the States. So instead of dangling a carrot of ‘if 10,000 of you work incredibly hard doing what I tell you, then one of you might get a little of what I have’, how about just decent wages for all so that a person working full time can actually afford somewhere to live?

The thing in the end that helped the most was basically a full life restructure, moved, started a business, I was lucky I had a mother who helped supported my overheads until my brain would offer the motivation to run a business, it took 2 years. It's a hard road, please don't buy into any story that your a victim and the worlds against you, it's not real, what matters is you have a small group of good friends and the ability to put food on the table, everyone has the ability to do this outside of extreme disability or mental illness.

ANY time you hear "YOUR truth" or "MY truth" it's never THE truth Edit: I also HATE "choose joy". You don't CHOOSE how you feel. You can learn to focus on different things. But you don't choose. This is emotional victim blaming.

Mindfulness even teaches we can't control our feelings. They tell us things, we can try to deal but we can't just switch to joy. If we could I so would have done that years ago.
@snopure Жыл бұрын
I agree that the truth is objective, but the only thing we can control in many situations is how we choose to react to them. There are way too many survivor stories of everyday people otherwise, though they don't have huge social media accounts with massive followings. I think that's the only thing Hollis got right, but it was probably a stopped clock thing.
@snopure Жыл бұрын
@@thebat893Unfortunately mindfulness is as much of a money-making gimmick as Rachel Hollis. But yes, it is possible to choose to be happy, though the message Hollis pumped out is too simplistic. Depending how dark things are, it's a moment by moment challenge. The easiest part is acknowledging the dark situation, but it takes effort to nourish hope.
@DNAndrei Жыл бұрын
I would disagree with that, just because of the ways many people use phrases like "live your truth". Often times these are not objective claims, they are life choices meant to help someone lead a more authentic life - such as changing career paths, moving countries, or coming out. I think "my truth" as a stand-in for "my authentic experience" is a beautiful thing to acknowledge, and doesn't have to be considered in any way not "THE truth"

When I was finally free and able to start healing I found it was the EMOTIONAL and VERBAL abuse I had the hardest time getting past; ten years later if a man becomes verbally abusive and aggressive I suffer PTSD. Being physically abused is scary when it happens especially when it is serious to kill you, but when it’s over you heal. The emotional and verbal abuse an become like a tape playing in your head 24/7; this is what broke me. There were days when I had constant panic attacks and you know what you need to do to stop a panic attack? JUST BREATHE! Sounds simple but it can be really hard! I've never been one to follow anybody or anything. This freaking celebrity/hero worship by the masses has created these greedy narcissistic hustlers. The starry-eyed followers usually end up poorer, while people like Rachel Hollis laugh all the way to the bank. These guru's don't really give af about any one of them. It's all about the greenbacks and how much they can con you out of this week. Most of them are all about me, me, me, and need attention and it doesn't matter how they get it... or your money. According to Rachel Hollis, she now has enough money to retire and never have to work again in her young life. Why doesn't she then? Because she's also a control freak along with being a narcissist, who wants more of your attention and more of your money. There will never be enough for people like that. Wise up everybody. 🇺🇸

My dad got up at 4am everyday for 30 years in order to go to work on the other side of town. My husband gets up at that time for the same reason. I get up at that time because I like getting a head start on the day….. it’s not a flex and it’s not as uncommon as she thinks it is.

I was literally about to say the same! I like to get up at that time too (between 5am and 6am) It’s normal for those of us with genuine motivation. For those without, I suspect like her, it’s a big deal to be (a) shouted from the rooftops and (b) put on everybody else!

you want to shout to this woman: "What do you know about life, girl?!" I've had a really bad life and I've experienced a few tragedies, I have an incurable autoimmune disease, I'm a single mother of a wonderful daughter and I do my best every day and I smile at everyone and I always hear "you can't see that you are so seriously ill", "you can't see that you've been through so much" and despite the fact that I do my best, there are days when the only thing I did was breathe. That's ok.

My son was in foster care for 9 months I struggled with my addiction and got him taken from my care. I got full custody back thank God and my case is closed, when I heard her talk about addicts, and how they don't deserve to see their kids it infuriated me especially after she struggled with addiction that could have been her. What makes her so different that if someone didn't step in and really look at her Xanax and alcohol addiction her kids couldn't be taken and she could be that "addict" in the McDonald's play place trying to still be a mother to her kids. Addiction doesn't discriminate. Say it with me, ADDICTION DOES NOT DESCRIMINATE and just because her addiction was to Alcohol and pills her dr prescribed her doesn't make it any different than an addict who is addicted to heroin. She's disgusting

Good for you! I used to have a good friend, but she passed away 2 years ago because of her addiction and left behind an 11 year old son. She was clean for 9 years and went back out for 1 day and it killed her. Really hit me personally considering she was the person who helped me so much when I was just starting on my road to recovery, and because of her reaching out and giving a dam to a complete stranger, I'll have 3 years next month. You are 100% correct. Addiction doesn't doesn't judge and isn't picky. It will take any Rich, poor, tall, short, white, checkered, disabled, pro athlete, genius or layman, single parent or happily married... If you are a human being, it wants to control you. Congratulations again, here's to many more years.

@mikeilabiddle17572 жыл бұрын
I don't think they found her relatable, I think they found her aspirational. That they too could work hard, find a good husband and have kids while still maintaining a business. Of course she was vague enough in her stories that people from most economic statuses could insert themselves into them, telling the blatant truth about her upbringing, how she got her education and jobs would have shattered the illusion that people of lower socio-economic status could "hustle" their way to her millionaire lifestyle.

If she’s so wealthy she could retire why does she need a ‘comeback’ into the public eye? It’s proof that she needs the public affirmation - just a narcissist in search of attention.
