Great speech and fantastic to listen to Mary talk about her life. She's obviously a really big-hearted lady, quite an eccentric character, but very lovely.

@bigray1999 I don’t think she was proselytizing at all. She was simply sharing her own personal story as it related to her life and tennis journey.

What a wonderful speech. So sincere and heartfelt, had me in tears. A truly lovely lady inside and out. As a player she was so unpredictable form wise but when she was on, my goodness, she was as unstoppable as any player ever has been.

yet another incredible tennis player that I sought out, regarding her induction. Mary Carillo called Mary's era "big babe tennis"...and there is no such thing, without the architects of that era of tennis, without Jennifer Capriati, Lindsay Davenport, Maria Sharapova, Petra Kvitova, the Williams Sisters, Mary Pierce and the Godmother of Big Babe Tennis, Monica Seles....all of whom, hit the ball as hard as the men did in those days. But I especially appreciated what Mary and Capriati contributed to the game, in spite of overbearing fathers. They stumbled and made mistakes on and off the court, but those mistakes never dimmed their desire to succeed and be great at what they trained to do, all of their lives. This was a very well deserved induction.

You have been a champion sportsman and have proved yourself in every walk of life. I am lucky to see the matches of a champion player like you. You have always been a great player to me and the queen of a pure and innocent heart. ❤

This speech helped me to look at Mary not only as a beautiful woman who a male can only covet, but as a strong individual. The choices we make between life and work they are eternal no matter how we are developed as a society. She sacrificed so many essential things in life - she didn't even go to the prom - to achieve her professional success. And maybe she'd be happier not being one the great athletes but as a pediatrician having a bunch of kids living in some tiny hamlet. Who knows? Most of us pick the latter, which leaves us with the longings about being more uncompromising to realize our genuine purpose in life.
