@jenniferhanses28 күн бұрын
Indeed. And I wonder if the thing that puts him off Me Ole Bamboo is the spinning the stick around his neck. There's the part where the sticks all crash together and he has to move his foot out of the way, but they do that really slowly, so he can probably still do that part. The stick/neck thing is the thing that stands out to me as concerning. That and the concentration to be deliberately off the beat, but he could probably do that with great difficulty.

There are two other instances of this degree of amazement and love that I can remember seeing on KZbin, one of which involves Dick Van Dyke, and another his co-star in _Mary Poppins_ . I'll start with the other one that Van Dyke was dancing in, the "Red Shoes" number in Night of 100 Stars, when, at the end, after all these other dazzling dancing legends have performed, Van Dyke returns to dance with Ginger Rogers down the line of other stars. The moment Rogers appears, you can hear the gasps, screams and wild applause in the audience. The other was Julie Andrews' appearance on stage at the Oscars after Lady Gaga's breathtaking performance of her _Sound of Music_ medley. The audience was already overwhelmed by the unexpected skill of Gaga with that kind of music and then on to the stage from the wings steps Julie Andrews. In both cases, this is not chopped liver being overwhelmed with emotion in the audience. The Oscars are attended mostly by people, mostly famous people, in the business, particularly in the orchestra section of the theater shown on TV. A gala charity event is attended by people who can afford tickets to gala charity events. Nonetheless, they were awestruck. Thanks for sharing this with us.

What a treat to see this! Can we call Dick Van Dyke a National Treasure? 😀❤

No. He's an international treasure

@@marcusblackwell2372 exactly. My wife, who is Filipino, started crying when she saw him unmasked on "The Masked Singer" (which brought us to this clip). She's only 38 but still cherishes DVD and all he's done.

The man is a legend of cinema and of musicals. He has been a childhood favourite since I was very young. And I shall weep when he leaves us.

Can you imagine what was going through the mind of every dancer onstage when they realized a legend would be dancing among them?

I'm sure they were nervous as hell but excited at the same time.

@@kimjensen8838I bet they were so excited and wanted to make this the best performance they could! It’s a dream come true
@catandrobbyflores28 күн бұрын
@kimjensen8838 judging by how the camera panned back and suddenly snapped back onto him, I don't think it was planned that he would dance with them. Which makes it so much better he did!

I must say, Incredibly Awesome!! Mr. Van Dyke starred in "Mary Poppins" four months before I was born. What a Fantastic career that he has had, and I wish him many more years of Success!! PS: A big plus is also the fact that he befriended Stan Laurel in his Twilight years.

Easily my favourite video on the entire internet...🥺 This man is an absolute Saint. Not to mention the fact that at 92, he brought his knees up higher than every single one of those dancers...🤣
