Dick Van Dyke has to be one of the most genuine wholesome people in the history of entertainment. It's crazy that he struggled so much with alcoholism, overcame it, talked about it when nobody else did, and is STILL ALIVE today and worked into his 90s. Absolute hero, and a legend to boot.

I'm a long-time bachelorette, so I've often told people that the man I would love to marry is Rob Petrie. They always say, "Oh, you mean Dick Van Dyke?" I say no, Rob Petrie. I always thought Rob was the most perfect husband on television, so beautifully written by Carl Reiner. Yes, THAT's the man I would marry! But Dick, you're right up there too! :)

What a GEM of an interview! I was struck by the humility and down-to-earth-ness of these two legends in their responses, and edified by how they each remained faithful to their wedding vows to their respective spouses when temptation was present. While on a business trip down in the Los Angeles area, I was on my way to a business luncheon at the Perch LA rooftop restaurant, in the Pershing Square Building. I was escorted to the VIP elevator, and as I stepped in, I realized that the only other passenger was Dick Van Dyke. I smiled at him, and he gave me a very friendly grin. So I said, "Are you also heading up to the restaurant for that Board Meeting of Tam O'Shanter Ltd. of Scotland?" He laughed, and said, "Doggone, I love knowing there's still fans of the show who actually remember those details. Thank you for being that kind of fan." He's a genuinely nice guy, with a warmth, and an easy smile.

Mary Tyler Moore & Dick Van Dyke are American national treasures. Dick's smile is awesome & classic :) I'm reading Dick's book... 'My Lucky Life In And Out Of Show Business' He tells of taking his granddaughter to a restaurant for dinner, she is absolutely amazed that everyone recognizes him, knows him, asks for autographs. She asks grandpa Dick... "Are you special?" ... Dick says... "No more or less than anybody else" ... She says... "I want to be special someday too" ... Dick says... "You already are"

A shortened reenactment of her job interview with Lou Grant in the first episode of *"Mary Tyler Moore Show".* Lou asked a succession of questions Mary found inappropriate and objected to, but which she answered only after he moved on to another question she liked even less. This so well replicated that scene, it seemed intentional, and was extremely well done, as impromptu as it was! The humor flew past Larry. :-D
