John 19:25 states that Mary had a sister; semantically it is unclear if this sister is the same as Mary of Clopas, or if she is left unnamed. Jerome identifies Mary of Clopas as the sister of Mary, mother of Jesus. Simply typing in Miriam in google tells you everything about her being the daughter of imran and sister of Aaron you can clearly see why there was a clear error and confusion in both due to linguistic reasons clearly.

"John" was written by an unknown author hundreds of years after Jesus lived, that's a well accepted fact among Christian scholars. However the Quran is from God and therefore it is accurate and has no error, even if it was revealed much later. So yes Miriam was the sisters of the Prophet Aaron and many generations later Mary the mother of Jesus also had a brother called Aaron. That's because the people of that time called their sons after Prophets. There's nothing difficult to understand in this arguments, so again there's no error in the Quran, Christians have been using this argument since the time of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and it was already refuted back then, stop using it, it has no impact and it's useless. Here's an example: My grandfather has a son (my uncle) called Muhammad, but I'm also called Muhammad, it doesn't mean me and my uncle are the same person, we were just given the same name despite being two different persons and being born at different times. That's basic logic.

Mughira b. Shu'ba reported: When I came to Najran, they (the Christians of Najran) asked me: You read "O sister of Harun" (i. e. Hadrat Maryam) in the Qur'an, whereas Moses was born much before Jesus. When I came back to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) I asked him about that, whereupon he said: The (people of the old age) used to give names (to their persons) after the names of Apostles and pious persons who had gone before them. There is another historical explanation of this ayat. There is a church called Kathisma church just outside Jerusalem which is allegedly built on the resting place of Mary according to the gospel of James. What is interesting is that the linguistic tradition of this shrine also explicitly calls Mary a sister of Aron just like in the Quran.

Even in our daily dealings, we still use such expressions when we call another person, who is not related to us by kinship or blood, with "my brother" or "my sister"!! The Arabs, if they do not know someone, they call him "O brother of the Arabs"!! (يا أخا العرب) as if all the Arabs are his brothers!! Brotherhood may be by blood, religion, nationality, tribe, language or humanity, all people branch out from Adam and Eve, as our Prophet Muhammad said, "you are all from Adam, and Adam is from dust."

Perhaps another interpretation of the hadith could be that since Maryam was named after Miriyam (in Hebrew), the actual sister of the prophet Harun (AS), the Jews used the title 'sister of Harun' metaphorically. As if saying, "Maryam, you're named after a pious woman but yet you committed a great sin!" (obviously that's what they thought and not the truth)

He's a liar Proof: 1. Mary and Moses are NOT from the same tribe, there are 12 tribes and they are not the same one 2. Who's speaking here? The Jews are speaking to Mary - Allah is just recording what they are saying - so they would know that Mary would have a brother named Aaron or not. They would also know what tribe Mary was from 3. There is no recorded history anywhere - even in Islam - that Mary had a brother, ONLY when the Christians of Najran called out Mohammed's lie, did he say that the Jews call people by the prophet's names. He got caught out in a lie and made another lie to cover it up

First, if the Bible says " of the daughters of Aaron" does this mean that Elisabeth is realy and directly from the daughters of Aaron in his time? Because in the same way Aaron and his daughters lived also more then thousend years before Elisabeth. Second, Elisabeth and Mary where close family related in their time, remember Jesus( son of Mary) and John( son of Elisabeth) where cousins of eachother. Third, in the language of the Hebrew of the Jews and also in the Arabic of the Arabs you can call someone who is close or dear to you so to speak as a sister or a daughter, or a brother or a son even if they are not realy that in it's literal meaning. So the conclusion is that if the Christians have a problem with the Qur'an because it calls Mary "the sister of Aaron" then they must have also a problem with their own Bible that calls Elisabeth "a grandchild of Aaron" and Aaron is therefore also "her grandfather". And this can never be the case in a biological way and order.

If the Quran wouldve actually mistaken Maryam عليه السلام for the Old Testament Miriam, then why should she be called "Sister of Aaron" and not "Sister of Moses"? It would make zero sense to then skip over the mighty messenger Musa عليه السلام and instead make a connection to Harun.

She was called the sister of Aaron a.s not because she was from the lineage of Aaron a.s, but a direct descendant of Moses a.s through the lineage of House of David a.s. If she was from the descendant of Aaron a.s, she would be called sister of Moses. May Allah SWT cleanse our heart and grant us understanding of the Quran InsyaAllah.

It's also possible the prophet was referring to Maryam being named after Aaron as she was from the lineage of Harun. The bible although we don't believe the bible does a similar thing by calling Zacharias wife daughter of Aaron, Elizabeth was Maryam aunty making Yahya and Isa cousins In the days of Herod king of Judaea, there was a priest named Zacharias of the priestly class of Abijah; his wife was of the daughters of Aaron and her name was Elizabeth. They were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless… Luke 1:5

Miriam bat Yehoyachim's father was not Amram. She is the namesake of Miriam bat Amram whose siblings were Moses and Aaron. She had a complex Levitical lineage to Amram but the male lineage to King David.

I think The Quran has answered it : There is NO Preposition (MIN) after the word UKTA. But when *TRANSLATEFD* to Englsih the word of *OF* suddenly have to appear in or the whole sentence became meaningless and the confusion starts

Asslamo alikom, Barak Allahu feekum brother Alhamdulilah First, what the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said we cannot doubt or question (as long as it is an authentic hadith, and it is) .. He received wahi from Allah, so he knows better than anyone else. Secondly, where did you get that 'Maryams mother had prayed for a child and (only) gave birth to Maryam' .. All what she said was "My Lord, indeed I have pledged to You what is in my womb, consecrated [for Your service]" so it is just pledging the child for the service of Allah. Harun (AS) and Musa (AS) were brothers, hence he would refer to him as the son of his mother, another way of saying my brother, as someone’s brother is the son of their mother. Allah knows best.

What about her being daughter of Imran... the explanation is undlfortunatly not convincing. Also Brothers in your examples of Lut etc are contemporaries not descendents. So both arguments cannot hold in this debate.

from all the names available, both had the same name "mariyam" both had their father's names as : imran , and both had brothers called haroon , let s suppose that mary had in fact a brother called aaron for the sake of the argument, mary's father was not called "imran" , he was called Joachim יהויקים , every scholar knows that , it's just clear that mohammed conflicted the two marries

Sahih M. 2135, Adab says the ppl were named after the prophets. So Maryam had a brother named Harun! Quran 11 : 50. - And to Ad (people We sent) their brother Hood. He said, "O my people! Worship Allah! You have no other Ilah (God) but Him. Certainly, you do nothing but invent (lies) Quran 50 : 13. And 'Ad, and Fir'aun (Pharaoh), and the brethren of Lut (Lot); Brother can be brother of the tribe!

I'm Muslim Alhamdulillah but let me tell you, Musa & Haroon had a sister also named Maryam & these three's father was also named Imran 💀 But their mother was named Yuchabel though, not Hannah (Jesus's maternal grandmother) Also I don't think Jesus's (Isa) mother Maryam had a brother cuz her mother wanted a son but Allah sent Maryam saying that she's better than any son.

Maryam's brother could be from her father. Sometimes they had more than one wife. Or maybe if she did have a son already he probably was much older so she wanted another son to dedicate to Allah. The Qur'an never mentions she didn't have other children already. Allah knows best.
