Classical Indian dances, Odissi especially is yoga in the form of dance. It is spiritual experience through music. It is self realisation and being one with the existence through rhythms . It is a pure art in that it captivates time, space and innermost emotions. Thanks for bringing forth such a lovely presentation of this art, the music and architecture is mesmerising as are you.

Nicely written and expressed, but Odissi dance is not yoga. None of the Indian classical dances are yoga, just like not all Indian food is a curry. Odissi is in particular an offering to God. Every facial expression (mudra), every hand gesture- each tells a part of the story

@internetultrageek If you understand the meaning of the word 'yoga' is any action we perform with intent, conscious or unconscious to link up with the Divine. Since these Maharis I believe were originally temple dancers who devoted their lives to dance as an offering to Lord Jagganath, Lord of the Universe. Would presume that qualifies as their form of yoga. Hari bol ! Shanti !

This is absolutely stunning! The strength, precision, grace, fluidity and beauty shown here must have taken many years of dedication and study to perfect. And she makes it look so effortless, when it must take great strength and concentration to achieve each movement and position. It was a joy to watch! Thank you for sharing this! 🥰😍🥰

Watching this video I was thinking to myself, "I want to learn this dance to please Lord Krishna" I want to devote myself by learning these dances as offerings and to study them and understand them fully. This was very well done, as well. Haribol!

I hope you can find a teacher and do it! It is the most fulfilling path in life. There is so much beauty and depth to experience, and truly through offering this dance as a devotional practice, life will open and flower in ways that you could never have imagined :) Many blessings, Haribol!

Tried Odissi for the first time today, it's SO hard! Everything I thought I knew about dancing... well it wasn't to much help. Like trying to learn a new, completely different language. I'd love to learn it properly!

I'm Indian, the musical instruments, singing and dancing is usually started at very early age. It's pure dedication. You can only do your best but don't be disappointed if it seems hard. Never give up. Your passion for dance will get you there one day. God bless!

I agree i find that these dances along with traditional music in any culture is started at a young age. Even the native americans when they go to pow wows or events and dress up in their regailia they start at a young age their parents at first make their regailia than they start making them when theyre old enough to do so it emparts their spirit into their regailia same with the drums or hoops or anything they make. Theyre very entuned with nature and their surroundings

I like(love) all of it, really much! Philipp Glass composed a music with a great artist of India. I believe this called "Passage". Really worth to listen to it. On a general tone, I love a culture of the world. India is one of my favorite.

gforce no, in most dances, every single movement has a purpose and meaning, and especially with how intricate the footwork is in this dance I would’ve loved to see it
