Well, I reel em on up and then I pack em on in! -Clutch. Can't wait to get out in Sept. My family moved away from the Severn years ago up to the Darnstown area and for a long time all I could do was buy overpriced jumbos unless I was willing to drive an hour. Found a 22 foot trailer sailor abandoned on its trailer off Rt80 a few years ago and have been re fitting it for a multi-sport vessel. Floated her last year on the Sassafras for a few days and this year I'm heading across to the Wye for a solid week. Nver used a trot line before, but I picked up 600' of the black Mamba from Crab Bully last month and hope to see some success between that and 20 or so traps. If you're on the Wye second week of Sept, I'll be the nut crabbing from a sailboat.

I usually put in a couple of bay leaves when I steam. I mix Old Bay and salt on each layer.

Still a little early for major river action. Just coming on in the bay. Smart move going a few rivers south. 5 feet is to shallow try 10-12 feet on the edge.

No, I think it is a good size. I've already put basically a bushel in there and fit good. 100qt doesn't hurt. if you are like us, we don't always have a bushel to steam.

Why do you put the crabs in the basket while its in the pot? You have a basket. Fill it while that water is rolling with the top on and then just put the basket in and cook 17 minutes. You are letting all that heat out. The shells are dark orange in about 5 minutes. 25 minutes is cooked too long

Just how I have always done it, and they always turn out perfect, like these did. Maybe I'll try that next time.
