During the first two years of Pancrase, both Funaki and Suzuki could beat anyone at will. Once injuries and Technique from their opponents caught up, this was no longer the case. Funaki worked Ken, while Ken shot on Funaki. Bas Rutten shared a similar sentiment.

@RPdigital Ken was called Wayne because he first did a tour of Japan as a pure pro wrestler(just works) under the AJPW banner. When he transitioned over to UWF/PWFG he was changed to Wayne to avoid stigma of him being a "performer" style wrestler over a legit shooter(which UWF/PWFG marketed themselves as) so when Funaki/Suzuki broke away from PWFG to form Pancrase, the name stuck. Even in PRIDE on Japan broadcasts you can see him listed as Kenneth Wayne Shamrock because of this.

@anonymous @anonymous In Pancrase the rumored worked fights were always between the former pro wrestlers like Funaki, Suzuki & Shamrock. The ones generally or admitted to be works are; - Ken Shamrock vs Minoru Suzuki 1 & 2 and Ken Shamrock vs Masakatsu Funaki 2; Ken admitted in his recent biography written by Snowden that Pancrase asked him to first lose to Suzuki in the first fight since he was going to fight in UFC II and they didn't want their top guy embarrassed by losing again like Ken had in UFC 1, So Ken "loses" to Suzuki in January 1994 then is ready to compete in UFC II in March, 1994 but Vernon White broke Kens wrist with a high kick in training a few days before the show and Ken ended up pulling out. The second fight Ken has to drop is to Masakatsu Funaki on September 1, 1994 before fighting in UFC III on September 9, 1994. Funaki submits Ken with a choke in a little over 2 minutes where Ken absorbs no damage and easily gives up a leglock and the mount to allow Funaki to sink the choke for the win. Funaki was also Ken's head cornerman until UFC IX so go figure why he'd want Ken to be fresh going into his second UFC tournament. The second Suzuki fight was where Ken had to drop the KOP title to Suzuki before facing Dan Severn for the vacant UFC Superfight title at UFC VI. Pancrase which was billed as real pro or "hybrid" wrestling could not afford to have their champion lose to the reigning NWA pro Rasslin champion which Dan Severn was since in Japanese fans eyes that would be like the WWF champion beating the UFC champion and would make their real league look fake like the others. So Ken loses to Suzuki by another kneebar and drops the title in May, 1995 then fights and beats Dan Severn in July, 1995. Always funny how Ken only ever lost in Pancrase right before his scheduled UFC fights and it was only ever to Funaki and Suzuki his submission wrestling trainers/compatriots? The other work was Funaki vs Suzuki in October, 1994 where they start the fight with a series of wild strike exchanges then when it hits the ground Funaki gets the choke and Suzuki goes out. Pretty much a condensed call back to their UWF submission match from a few years prior once it hit the ground. Another that would be mixed in there would be Ken Shamrock vs Matt Hume with the ridiculous Northern Lights Suplex into a double wrist lock finish but that one I don't really count since it was a last minute fight put together since someone got hurt and the fight got thrown together but was billed as an exhibition so fans would've known it was not gonna be a straight up legit contest. Others that fall into this category were the carries/dives from Suzuki/Funaki where they'd give up wins or ropebreaks to lesser competition to try and create and build new stars. I'm not gonna go in depth on these since I've gone long already but some were fights like Suzuki/Yamada; Funaki/Delucia 1; Funaki/Frank Shamrock 2; Suzuki/Frank Shamrock 2 & 3; Funaki/Yamada; Funaki/Kondo 1. As for Rutten the R's on the back of his hands weren't for Rutten but for rustig which is Dutch for calm or in a restful manner. He wrote these as a reminder not to go full out when he got hit since he had a bad habit of losing his cool in fights and getting tired; he could see them since Pancrase was open hand and was constantly looking at the backs of his hands when they were up.

@anonymous For Sapp vs Hoost 1 & 2 I don't think they were works rather extremely one sided officiating in favor of Sapp. The first fight especially Sapp who was already so much bigger was rabbit punching, hitting Hoost on the mat and just mauling him until he stopped him. The second fight Hoost just was weathering a Sapp flurry and the referee stopped it pretty quickly which seemed to be they were waiting for any chance to give Sapp the win to keep his momentum alive as their big star. Also wouldn't surprise me if Hoost accepted a bribe to take a dive either fight but it wasn't a work as Sapp really did knock the hell out him both times and you'd think Hoost would want to avoid taking those prolonged blows if he could've just went down on an early decent blow.

7:17 Funaki probably contemplating the fact that three years earlier in the UWF(reborn) dojo he ragdolled and easily submitted Shamrock during Shamrock's 2nd tryout multiple times (as did Suzuki) and now Shamrock's skill in Japanese Catch as Catch Can combined with his unmatched athleticism has surpassed his. At that time when the japanese young boys joined the dojo they weren't shown much offense at first during sparring they were expected to learn constant defense and blocking submissions before they started learning offense, In many cases learning offense from having it done to them as they practiced and learned defense first. As a result as you observed they developed very good defensive skills.

tom parker- during the first two years of pancrase, both Funaki and Suzuki could beat anyone at will. Once injuries and Technique from their opponents caught up, this was no longer the case. Funaki worked Ken, while Ken shot on Funaki. Bas Rutten shared a similar sentiment.

Actually Kenny wasn't "juiced", anyone who knew him at that time(which I did) knows how naturally developed he was. He was a gym rat and workout fanatic. There were other times later in his career that he was huge. Most guys just don't have that physique, therefore some people have to complain to feel better about themselves. He was a stud and pioneer in the sport. He deserves that credit.

His traps do not lie Call , Bay of the most androgen receptor In the body. Plus Japanese organizations do not care about steroids. For example the The pride contract said we do not test for steroids.
