I must confess, while I was overall looking forward to this What If, I was a little nervous. Chi Chi seems to be a difficult character to get right: just ask Toriyama! Here's hoping that adult Chi Chi is allowed to make sense. What do I mean? Chi Chi wanting to be all prim and proper has never been a problem for me. It was that she seemed to hate the most efficient method she had for advancing socially and proving herself elegant and in control: martial arts. Even if Chi Chi (as we know her in canon) wasn't capable of learning chi-based flight, you'd think she'd LOVE Gohan taking advantage of his unique origins to do what he later does in one of the game's timelines: become the scholar who teaches chi control to the masses. Making Earthlings less backwards when compared to other planets and races. E.g. chi-based flight and energy projection becoming more common.

It's not that Chi Chi is complex character - Toriyama just sucks at writing romance and stuff as he himself admitted. I mean, the moment Videl became a wife, she also stopped being Videl we knew from Buu Arc. Chi Chi: feisty woman that prioritizes her family over anything else; doesn't mind her husband's hobby but wants him to provide for his family first and play second. She believes that education and politeness are way to success in life and that's how she tries to raise her children (and I believe she was somewhat successfull with Gohan being polite scholar and Goten being a really polite kid). She might dislike the idea of her children fighting but she realizes that both of them are really talented at it and will even step up to train them herself if needed. That's really it. She could maybe use personal hobby or two but housewifes that focus mostly on their family are sadly pretty common. If I had to choose something I'd say maybe some homemade clothes making or cooking? Both hobbies don't have to take too much time (remember, she can be quite busy) and are also very practical and family-centric (keep in mind she lives out of town).

@@NaoyaYami It is also because of Japanese tradition and well, also it's that she doesn't want her kids to have it like she did. She was raised by Ox-King mainly and didn't seem to have many friends growing up. In a way, she's like Goku in that sense. She knows what she wants; it's just that the reality she lives in won't let her have that, which appears to be a sense of peace and not have to worry about fighting, but well, that's not gonna happen. There is always unfortunaely another threat and it is admittingly a stress spot to be in.

I can respect someone who admits his own limitations. Although, he could have tried improving with Videl. But, beggers can't be choosers. Not to say I approve everything he did, I just say that I understand some of why he did it.

Glad to see this idea come to life. I mean, by the end of Dragon Ball, Chichi was probably one of the top 10 strongest humans alive, and that without being a proper part of the Z team. So her actually being a fighter is for sure gonna be nice, both for her and for Gohan and Goten, which I'm sure will also be stronger here thanks to their momma being an optimal trainer as well as teacher now

For the next part, i can picture easily Chichi entering the quarter finals, maybe replacing Bacterian (potentially winning against Crilin but then losing to Jackie Chun) or Ranfan (defeating Nam and then being defeated by Goku) in any case, Jackie Chun would still win in the end. However, there's still to talk about Yamcha: Him and Chichi actually met before the whole castle on fire incident. So, she'd most likely tell him that there's no possibility for the two of them (like she did as an adult in the 23th world's martial arts tournament)

I love your choice of starting ChiChi's character arc at the beginning of Dragon Ball instead of at the beginning of Dragon Ball Z. Salad Saiyan did the latter in his own version of this What If, so it's a nice change. This What If could intensely improve the dynamic between Goku and ChiChi so much in the future. They might even get married much sooner, if everything sails smoothly!
