Let me hit you with a little story, my guy. I'm sure you can tell from my pic that I am a white guy. But, I have always be wildly attracted to black women. (My wife is black and we have 3 beautiful mixed-race children together). Anyway, I am a particular flavor of white. I am Nordic. I'm a Viking, and super proud of that. Plus, my grandfather hammered Viking culture and pride into myself, my siblings and my cousins our entire childhoods. When I eventually met my wife and we were dating, I'd occasionally start talking about my culture. Then she said something to me that I will never ever forget. She said, "Baby, I love how passionate you are about your heritage. But, I need you to know that, as a black person in America, I don't know my background like that. And, it kinda hurts my heart." (I paraphrased. But, you get the idea...) When she said that, it kinda messed my head up. Because, a lot of what I love about myself I attribute to the blood of the violent, rapist, snow-bullies that I am descended from. (Haha... I say that because I understand ANY culture has some horrors in its past. Especially mine). My point is twofold. 1) Where you come from is nice to know. But, it certainly doesn't have to define you, or your future. 2) You could get an exome sequencing done, find where your ancestors are from and study those groups of people. That's what we did for my wife. Then I got to learn about a bunch of badass ancient African cultures. Then we went to Africa, which was AMAZING. OK, be safe bro. ✌🏻

Agreed. Understanding ethnic groups are actually critical in dealing with modern day issues. Yet Americans especially treat it as a taboo in Academia due to the early 20th century perversions of the subject. If we want to help anyone internationally, we should probably first actually understand what's most important to THEM rather than ourselves. If we. want to help save people from civil wars, genocides, etc, we should probably understand why such things exist. But that would require studying the "icky" subject of ethnicity and racial divisions.

The Negritos formed the indigenous population of Southeast Asia, including your Australia and New Zealand. Negritos were the first people to live in the Myamar, Cambodia, Indonesia. The way I see it, there's "race" and there's "ethnicity". Race is a much more broad and much more arbitrary term, and it tends to mean entire continental groups (e.g. Black African, White European, Asian etc..). It's mostly a social construct. Where as ethnicity usually comes down to single specific cultural and ancestral populations. What you say about Africa being made up of many ethnicities, that also goes for the other racial continental groups. E.g. China alone has several ethnicities like the Han Chinese, Tibetan Chinese etc... But we still say they're Asian. Japanese and Thai look a lot different, but they still have the "Asian" look, so we say they're Asian. Irish and Swedish look different, but we still say they're "White" etc. It goes on and on.

Girl Bye! if we were so united the white man wouldn't have been able to divide and conquer us so easily! If we were so united there wouldn't have been so many tribal driven wars after independence from various colonies, I mean look at South Sudan they fought for independence for so many years from Sudan only to turn around and kill each other because what? If we were so united back in the day (like 30 - 50 years ago) our grandparents wouldn't have given our parents shit for marrying into the tribe next door, You still find this in uber-traditional families. The concept of black unity is an American thing, when one race is the status quo (in this case black), humans will find a reason to divide themselves. I love Africa more than I love myself but to say we are united because of our race is a proper joke. 500 years of white invasion has opened our eyes but not enough to unite us under one race.

Most people in North Africa that is light skin ancestors are from other parts of the world, and were mixed with others, and is the youngest of all of the first people, just like in the Americas all mixed people are the youngest racial group, no matter how much Europeans try to act as if they have been around for thousands of years, its not true! I think a lot of countries have been brainwashed in so many ways by Westerners, or Europeans that were very ignorant and racist people in the first place, and is why people need to educate themselves more, and not listen to their ignorance of others because most of them have always been racist towards dark skin people? We South Africans don't call ourselves black, we refer to ourselves by cultural or linguistic grouping, official forms list us as Africans which is confusing since technically everyone born on the continent would be one but the government got tired of people ticking the box labeled "other" for ethnicity and putting down African in pen on the line that follows on official forms/questionnaires. The term black is a hold over from apartheid and sometimes includes other people of non-African descent like Indians and Chinese people but always specifically excludes Europeans or people of European descent, and we use it as a term of understanding and grouping but not necessarily as one of identity. If you ask a "black" South African what they are or identify as, the answer will be a cultural group, a tribe or a clan name, if you get black as an answer then it's likely that the person you're talking to thinks that that is the answer you will understand because most of the world uses the term.

@@SD_M9 I'm not sure i understand what you're complaining about. The term "African" refers specifically to "black" Africans and I said as much. What I meant by "black" sometimes including non-Africans I hoped could be understood through my use of the word "Apartheid", because of this institution the definition of black in South Africa almost always requires context (which I tried to imply). For example, other non-whites are classified as black for the purposes of B.E.E (Black Economic Empowerment) and as such are eligible for benefits, I'm not sure a legal definition of black will suffice for you but it does for most people.
@kholofelolekgoathi27574 жыл бұрын
@@SD_M9 if you read my message carefully, I specifically make the distinction between "African" and "black". Nowhere at all do I claim that the other non-white races are African, I only suggested that they were "black" so yes, we agree that they are not African in the strictest sense. The difference between African and black seems like a distinction without a difference but our history and politics make it an important one. So go ahead and beat that straw-man all you want.

Please stop spreading the illusion of race that is in America or else where to Africa and its people. Your knowledge about Africa appears to be the one that can be found in books or websites written by people who do not know about Africa. The terminology "Black" itself was socially engineered.I do not know any African tribes that refer to people by their skin color in their language (dialect). I know that you have a desire to grow your knowledge about the world and i appreciate the time you took making this video. However, to start to know about Africa, learn about its History thousands of years before the slave trade and what came afterwards. Start from the history of Kemet (Ancient Egypt). Please check the work of Cheikh Anta Diop, Theophile Obenga, Mbombog Mbog Bassong. Peace & Ubuntu!

Interesting video. It's important that Americans and especially Black Americans understand that Africa isn't a homogeneous bloc. You should've mentioned also North Africans and the diversity of the Berbers. Berbers from Kabylia for example can be blonds with very fair eyes and skin, while Berbers from Southern Algeria or Morrocco like the Mozabite people or Chleuh people can have a darker skin.

When people refer to all people from Europe as "white" is to assume they're all one homogeneous ethnic group. But don't realize that Europeans are divided into major ethnic groups, with branches in those groups: Celtic, Germanic, Hellenic, Slavic, Baltic, Italic, Hispanic, Basque, Sami, Finno-Uralic, etc. Even to the point that our ethnic makeup is so diverse, our hair, skin, and eye color vary greatly, with a varying facial and body structures, even though Europeans are all Caucasoid.

A lot of misinformation in this video. The Congolese don't look down upon the 'pygmy' population, and the 'pygmy' are not hunted down either. 'Bantu' is also not an ethnic group, nor is it a name that any native African person calls themselves. And the people you call 'Bantu' do not look the same. There are a few other things you got wrong, but I just wanted to point out those three. I recommend that next time you make a video about African ethnic groups, talk to actual African people to get some info, as well as consult some texts written by well respected African historians and scholars. You won't get any real info from European historians. There's already a ton of misinformation about Africa getting passed around, so it would do you good to dig carefully and consult the right people and sources.
@LB_die_Kaapie5 жыл бұрын
Ohm Neh that’s a lie, Bantu is the word anthropologists use to group the peoples who originated in Cameroon/Nigerian border and spread throughout the rest of Africa and who have a language with the same root and similar culture. Hence Bantu. And yes the Pygmy are getting hunted down in the Congo. But that’s what the Bantu did all over Africa which is why they are the most dominant ‘peoples’ on the continent.

@1000g2g3g4g8009994 жыл бұрын
@sanjay a p p You're trying to separate Africa into "North" and "Sub-saharan," and like, ok I guess, but your language makes it seem like you're treating the two as monoliths. Africa is the most genetically diverse continent, and you can find people most people would call "black" in every "North African" country. It's probably been that way basically as long as people were there. "Berber" and "Arab" are cultural groups, they don't really indicate physical traits. Tuaregs are Berber and always have been, and you can find similar groups that tend to look pretty darn "black" in every country in "North Africa." Sudan and Egypt aren't "sub-saharan," they're in the Sahara desert. Look up Beja people, Nilotic peoples, Fellahin, Nubians. If judged by appearance by current standards of who's considered "black," all groups would tend to pass. Moreover, below the Sahara Desert, skin tone can vary wildly; you could find plenty of people lighter than many of the folks indigenous to "North Africa."
@1000g2g3g4g8009994 жыл бұрын
@sanjay a p pWhat "fairy tales" have I spoken of? Is Sudan below the Sahara now? Do Tuaregs not exist? Please, actually attempt to justify anything you've said. It's not like Africa below the Sahara was completely isolated from Africa in and above it.
@1000g2g3g4g8009994 жыл бұрын
@sanjay a p p I fail to see what the origins of the name "Africa" have to do with anything, and have said nothing to contradict this. It's pretty common knowledge, but completely irrelevant. The Romans 100% knew of the likes of Ethiopia and went as far South as what is now Gao in West Africa, though again I fail to see how this has any relevance. It's actually really easy to look up the Romans employing "Ethiopian" troops in Europe: research.reading.ac.uk/research-blog/how-diverse-was-roman-britain/ But even if you want to claim that "Ethiopian" didn't actually mean "someone from the region of Ethiopia," this still isn't relevant, even if the Romans didn't have contact with "sub Saharan Africa," that doesn't mean it was isolated. You're showing even more ignorance of African history by claiming no European or Asian Empires bothered with "sub Saharan Africa," literally look up "Ming Treasure Voyages," China traded with the East Coast of Africa. And uh, almost the entire continent was colonized by Europeans before the 20th century hit, so you might want to define time frames for claims like them not expanding their empires into the region. --- But let's stay on topic, instead of acknowledging any more red herrings you throw out. So earlier, you claimed North Africans were never black, and that "sub-Saharan Africans" were black. You have just now also claimed the Romans knew nothing of sub-Saharan Africa, while just ignoring examples provided of groups of people who live in or North of the Sahara who would probably be considered "black" in the parts of the world where this is even considered a racial category. Ok, so do you know anything about the Theban Legion? The leader, Saint Maurice, was born in Thebes. I want you to do an image search of his name. He's actually the patron Saint of Savoy and Valais in France and Switzerland respectively, so he's not really some insignificant person in history. But you have to either reject your claim that "North Africans" were never black, because he was a "North African," or you have to claim he was "sub-Saharan" (which would be you inventing history yet again), meaning the Romans had contact with "sub-Saharan Africa." So pick one, and do tell me again whether Tuaregs exist and whether or not they're "black," you seemed to just ignore that one. Same with Beja people and Fellahin. TL;DR, your reply contains easily verifiable factual inaccuracies, and you didn't acknowledge or reply to anything I actually said. Your entire post was a red herring.

Most people already knows that all modern day Africans are not black in color. The problem is the these people are automatically referred to as African instead of their individual nationalities. Africa is a continent. Another thing is, you mean South Africa was colonized. Most African on the continent are black. Europeans are also mostly white but do not look alike and are different shade. There is a lot of generalizing in this video. The real question is do you know this from actual anthropological experience or did you just “read about it”? First & foremost I am Eritrean, Habesha and I am proud & I won't forget my culture & my country but I'm also proud to be black, & I don't look down on anyone else, for we are all brothers & sisters. And in the end we come from one continent & are connected, & all God's children. Also Ethiopians, & Eritreans are not just Cushite but Semetic too.

Man they come from West Africa Nigeria and Cameroon originally, that is just the linguistic group, genetically there is little difference between most West Africans and Central Africans, it would be like saying there is a major genetic difference between the French and Germans

You guys are liars man.. Bantus are not from west, east, nor south.. bantus met those africans in those areas.. bantus are the original human.. they are the children and of Abraham Isaac and Jacob.. they are the true hebrew israelites.. the chosen race of GOD.. biggest race in the world scattered to the 4 corners of the earth in every country because of slavery.. they are the strongest RACE in the world chosen to show forth the praises of God..

@@deanfirnatine7814 You do realize that Nigeria and Cameroon are the 2 most Southern West African lands. Last time I checked, what we know as West Africa starts from Southern Mauritania.

I hope black Americans watch this. They assume North Africans are invaders but don’t know when it comes to settlements, the Bantus are among the newest groups in Africa and are just more plentiful.

West Africans are NOT Bantus. Bantoid languages are from Cameroon going south to South Africa and east to Kenya.

They're all black. We're all black. It's just that most slaves were taken from West Africa(Bantu) and westerners have a small image of what is black(aka think all black people have wide noses and big lips).
