It's often described as a regular VN or a kinetic novel, but the author himself refers to it as "sound novel" to highlight the importance of music in creating the atmosphere. If I had to pick something from its rich and diverse soundtrack to recommend for "stand-alone" listening - it would be a set of song names suffering from a lack of whitespace: worldenddominator, dreamenddischarger, lastendconductor, as well as "the executioner". On the calm side, dead angle, discolor and terminal entrance are worth checking out. There are multiple ways to procure the novels - Steam and GoG are easy options on PC. There is also a high-quality English translation by the Witch Hunt team, if you got your hands on the Japanese version. Please remember that despite any and all rumors, wiki articles and anime database mentions, there is no Umineko anime. It's unlikely that a good adaptation will appear in the future, and as of now, there is most certainly nothing worth mentioning.
