Saint Joe does it again. This has been plaguing me so much I had actually unplugged Machine since xmas as I was frustrated trying to use mashine as a sound module and started writing music on Korg Gadgets instead and forgo thinking about production for a while. Cheers man. extremely helpful.

Maschine Tutorials Its not been the greatest update has it. I love bits of it, especially the drum synth, but it counts for zilch if I cant play the thing into ableton..and yeah Korg Gadgets is such a simple simple device. NI could learn a lot from that little app.

Thank you so much! this was exactly what I was looking for! before I had to record everything into maschine and trying to edit the notes inside the VST is awful because the screen is small and it was cumbersome. Now I can record things into live and edit all the notes just like a normal midi clip inside of live, I also don't have to worry about syncing anything. Thank you so much!

Thanks for responding Joe. The tutorial you have is super helpful of course, wow convoluted stuff for really such necessity / basic need. This tutorial is very close to being ok for us Pro Tools users but around where you talk about external instruments that's where I get lost in the translation, not sure what exactly to do with PT at that final stage there but will keep at it (when I have another frikkin 4 hours to try again, ugh). HAS ANYONE OR CAN WE GO BACK to 1.8 or is that not possible? I bought this at 2.0 with "Studio"

Maybe it would be just using a MIDI track and setting it up that way instead of "external instrument" For example, to do this in Studio One or Cubase you just setup a MIDI channel instead of an external instrument track.

Yes that's what I thought, but so far I'm not able to get the "green midi group" set of pads to send midi to machine and pro tools. So far the ONLY way to get midi to Pro Tools is to go into Midi Mode which as you know we don't want to do.

rjkral Yeah this only works if the daw allows midi routing from plugins, I don't believe PT allowed that, at least not in the older versions. Midi mode was the only way.

I have a video on that also, some prefer to do all of their sequencing in Live so this workaround allows them to get back to doing that. It's still more work than it used to be in previous versions though due to how they changed it.

Great tutorial, thank you very much! The only thing I don't understand is at 7:00min you put a chord sound into Group C and all 16 pads are loaded (HS-RSMEarth01 to HS-RSMEarth16). When I put a chord sound into the group only pad 1 has the sound in it....doesn't matter if sample or instrument, the others (2-16) stay empty. Can you tell me what I do wrong, please?

I loaded a kit of chord sounds, it's not an individual chord, that's probably what you're seeing.

Yo man, thanks for the info, you've been a big help! I want you to know that you don't need an extra midi host for every new kit. It's enough to have only one Midi Host group to serve the entire Maschine instance. You can use all the other 15 groups for different kits. The way it works is - Ableton (or Cubase or anything) sends MIDI back to a specific maschine midi track according to the currently "armed" track settings. So, you only need one midi host group. The kit it sends the MIDI from the midi host kit depends on the track which is currently "armed". Hit me up on msg if you didn't get this....

Because the midi data is all being recorded straight into Live using the midi control group, is it possible to still record automation for the controlled group's parameters (especially, effects parameters)? AU plugins can't send MIDI out so this method will not work in Logic, you have to put Maschine into controller mode and trigger it as a plugin from a midi track.

This track will give your daw control over midi input. 2.Make sure its recieving audio from a seperate maschine track and returning midi back to that same track and identical channel defined in maschine input midi tab. 3. In maschine Route the group- output -audio (and perhaps aux ) tab to whichever channel said utility is recieving from. 4. Route output -SOUND- audio tab to group. Hope that covers it its finnicky stuff so let me know if any clarification is needed

St Joe, I see this works on your PC, but I am running a Mac Book Pro with Mavericks OSX. In Ableton 9.1.5, when I click the on MIDI From All Ins I have the Maschine option but when I click I MIDI From PostFX, there is no option for Maschine Studio. Everything else is exactly how you explained with this exception. This is major - I still can't record into Ableton using my Maschine as the controller

when you put an instrument or sound into a group and set it to keyboard so it spreads the semitones across the 16 pads how do you make the midi pick up on all 16 pads because for me its only picking up the original pad i loaded the sound into not the rest of the pads that have the semitones

Thanks for your video! I am trying to do this with Maschine as a plug in for Cubase 7.5, but Cubase doesn't even get a MIDI signal from my Maschine MIKRO 2 controller. I don't get it, I set a pad from a MIDI dedicated group to host, set the channel, but still it's not sending any MIDI until I go into MIDI mode (shift plus f1) which I'm trying to avoid. Can you help me on the issue?

You have to make sure you set up the midi so that it is receiving data from the track with the plugin on it, and make sure you use the VST Instrument rack to load Maschine and not an instrument track, as it will change the routing setup.

Hey man. Great vid. Was frustrated with Maschine 2.0 for a while there. This helped. There's one issue I'm having still and I'm sure that it's something simple I'm overlooking. I set up a kit in group A and the midi host channel in group B. When I play group B it triggers two things. First is the actual drum in the corresponding pad in group A but then it is also triggering the kick drum set to C3 but will change the pitch of it as I get higher on the pads. Any ideas?

With Maschine 2.2 you have now the option to use Maschine without this workaround in Ableton. Native added the MIDI-Thru button, so you can finally decide for yourself, whether you want arriving MIDI events to be sent directly to the MIDI output or not. ... so no feedback issues anymore. Anyway, if you still wanna use this great workaround after updating to Maschine 2.2 software, you should follow these steps, since it won't work properly after updating: 1. Turn on the Thru switch for each sound group 2. go to the MIDI-Output setting of your Host-MIDI-Group 3. select all 16 sounds 4. set Dest. from Host to None and then set it back to Host done

No. I am missing something, because I did everything that was on this video. In fact, I looked at this video at least 15 times. There is a step missing within Studio One itself. That's why I asked..."How is this done in Studio One? Your video is using Ableton. I know the saying a DAW is a DAW is DAW, but there is something different in the layout on Studio One or choosing the MIDI tracks that I am not getting.

Johnny Outrage I've done a video on our site, the setup is very similar just that Studio One doesn't use external instrument devices, you use instrument tracks. But you can still route between the tracks.
